I'd like to think my yelling at the TV helped.
Indeed!
My neighbour's probably wondered what was going on !
I was doing exactly the same thing 😂😂
Yep! It's a well known fact that shouting at the TV works.
100%
The way everyone is queuing to congratulate him from rival teams shows the respect everyone has for him. Truly the GOAT 🐐
They were blocked from continuing down the road. Not like they were waiting in line *to congratulate him*.
But still shows great sportsmanship nonetheless
@@littlefinger5812 No one blanked him so that says it all.
Greatest sprinter for sure.
GOAT?? Are you kidding. Never won the Tour, never won the Giro, never won the Vuelta, won one monument. Greatest sprinter? Maybe. GOAT?? hA, HA! That was, and is, a cyclist named Merckx. By miles and miles and miles over Cavendish.
@@danmetz5112 a cyclist named Merckx He tested positive at least FOUR times... He got kicked out of a Giro d'Italia (which leading for 16 stages in '69), after winning Lombardia in '73, at Fleche Wallone in '75, then in '77 for amphetamines...
That Bunny Hop at 3:16 was insane
What a save!!😂
When I read the comment I thought it was over a curb or road furniture. Not a person. 😮
Wow 🤯

As predicted and anxiously anticipated, this Tour is absolutely cooking. LET THEM COOK!

That's amazing!
McEwen yelling in the background really elevated the elation
Simply the best sprinter of all time........way to go Cav!!
There is no doubt he is the best sprinter. Now to compare him to Eddy is a joke.
Cavindish is just a great sprinter in that should be' the end of this as fare as i am concern.
Oh dear ,Belgium must hate Brits even more.

Almost lost the chance at stage 1. Congrats astana, for believing cav.
I've read quite a few negative comments about Cavendish over the last couple of days, which makes it even more joyful to see him break 35!
Internet is full of unhappy anonymous people.
Absolute cockwombles, I'm going to go back and troll them all.
People mocked him when he Said after stage 1, we know what we are doing. I'm so happy for that man.
Cav has acted like a baby a number of times in full view of the cameras. He's a great sprinter, the way he came through the middle today was beautiful. He can also be a baby. Both things can be true at the same time.
No, it's not. He's a drama queen.
@@S0ulinth3machin3 He's human. Like all of us he's not perfect. At the very least you know he wears his heart on his sleeve.and does not give a phony PC appearance.
He's hit the deck a million times with that bobbing and weaving the last few hundred meters, but when it works, it's amazing to see him flow through the other riders. Like watching Picasso paint.
I made a fool of myself with Mark In 2003. I lived at the Gold Coast in Australia. I had raced Inline speed skates on the pro tour in 2000, but in Oz I took up bike racing. On one of the training rides I saw a new guy and asked him if he raced, it was Mark, didn't recognize him In person. he just said yes.

Ufff Astana just made its first entire season! All from now on is bonus! Well done Sir Mark Cavendish. Well deserved!
I am just happy. I am so happy to see this. I'm so glad he returned for this tour. Epic. Well done.
Only new to watching this sport and I'm so surprised how happy you can be for someone you've never met and only watched a handful of times. Such a genuine person. Well done!
If you only knew the journey. It's been a mad one. This is a day we never thought would come
Watched over nearly 20 years with ups and downs, and many generations of sprinters
I have to be honest and say I didn't think he was going to do it after his seemingly average spring-----shows what I know 😂😂.
I also didn’t think he could but because of his age. But sprinting is also a lot of luck in being in the right spot at the right time
@@rumpwrangler1102 he also showed the power to win comfortably.
He had one good performance left in him it seems.

Congrats Cavendish.. from Eritrea ❤
He's an inspiration to all those Aging cyclists coming to the end of their career.Showing you can still win in this young man's game

I wont lie, I cried when I saw the win. I've followed Cavs entire career. Met him a dozen times, have 10 pics with him amd have the same amount of autographs from him and they are all framed on my wall in my man cave. I wouldnt sell any of them. These are mine FOREVER!!!

Even BEFORE he got #35 they were some of my most prized possessions but now that he made history they are even more so if that's even possible. I'm sure there are plenty of people that would love to purchase just one but I wouldn't part with a single one!! Not a chance
My best one is him and I together at the hotel (I was staying at the same hotel as his team) and he's in the green jersey and I am wearing my Union Jack like a Superman cape. The next pic is him signing my Union Jack. That autographed flag is professionally framed on my wall with those two pics mounted within the frame. I then went out to the team bus and took a pic with Mark Renshaw and had Mark Renshaw sign it as well. It's such an incredible piece. The memories attached to that day and that piece has to be my MOST prized possession overall

Ridiculously talented Sprinter well done Mark 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
And nobody noticed some serious bunny hopping skills behind. A rider jumped over the fallen rider at full speed.
Zingle over Pederson. At 65kph. Mad skillz.
Thank you Vino for keeping faith in Sir Cav when few in the pro ranks believed he could still be competitive. Winning a sprint stage at age 39 is ridiculous. What a great Tour so far, every stage has a great story to tell - Bardet, Abrahamsen, Arkea, Bini, Carapaz, Pogi, Cav.
Pretty amazing. A few days ago he was puking from the heat and worrying he’d time out.
Perfect what a win, classic Cav. Who went in to the barriers and down? And yes amazing bunnyhop over them afterwards 😮
His decision making in the last couple of K was spot on. Popping back out at the front every time it looked like he'd been boxed in. His team did a great job from 30k out, making sure that he was there or thereabouts towards the end, but the train went to pieces before the final km. Cav's ability to pick the right wheel, see the gaps, know when to open up, see when the rider in front is about to blow etc etc. Phenomenal.

@@stevenmeyer9674 Back in 2013 i went to the local stage of the tour of Britain finishing in Llanberis, that day Cavendish won!!
Yep "old lad" , how can a 39 year old win ? It does not say anything good for the pro peloton when a 39 year old can win.
@@WildPhotoShooter Good lead out men, clever & well learnt positioning, Pro athlete life-style & 1 last horaah, been a while coming.
@russell-di8js A 39 year old would not have won in the 60s 70s even with great lead out men.

SIR CAV THE LEGEND #35

Pathetic and fixed. Ackerman for some reason gave him a leadout and Alpecin decided they didn't wanna try and win this with 400 meters to go. Bauhause then gets punished when Cavendish hits him unprovoked after he hit Gaviria. Worst first week of a grand tour in history!
39 year old sprinter! Respect overflowing. He’s got family and kids which he’s sacrificed for years to be away from to achieve the world record. You could see him hold back tears, all that sacrifice paying off.
@songofyesterday At 39 years old and still winning sprints , I think it should cause concern about the quality of pro cycling these days.
Congratulations to Mark , he has gained great respect from the peloton, which helps a lot.
3:16 The bunny hop on that crash at the back is insane
Obviously the sprint was good, but the real feat is the YEARS he’s been at it since the ‘Cav’s done’ days. The disappointments, the press, the fading possibility - to come back at it relentlessly. That’s grit. Hat off. GOATEST of the GOATs

Gave me a chill! Atta boy Mark. Chappo!!
I hope Astana gets all the publicity in the world for giving him and us these opportunities and moments! A lifetime of work summed up in a sprint. Chapeau Mark!
Absolute magic.
Unbelievable, so pleased for him. The overhead shot of him weaving his way through from 1km to go was phenomenal. I have huge respect for the climbers, but for me, there is nothing that compares to watching this guy work his magic in the sprints. When you throw in him being 39, his injuries, his mental health battles, and how badly he struggled on Saturday. Unreal.
Wow! The number of his competitors waiting patiently to congratulate Cav. Superstar!
I love how Eurosport usually avoids spoiling the results, but they went all out with this one. Truly an exceptional sprint by Cav and the team!
What I like the most is how every other rider seems to be happy for the achievement, road cycling is a beautiful sport and this Tour i´s truly delivering ⚡
They had trolled with it as clickbait a couple of times already, now it's the real thing

Oh Yes, so glad I was watching live instead of working!!!
@@IanPhillipsWildlife Don't worry..you'll be able to watch it live when you retire at 75 years of age like I did.
I was drunk in a pub with a random guy named Greg that had asked for the tour to be on TV, When I heard him yelling at Cav I knew I had a partner for the day, we were jumping with anticipation 10km before the line, we explained that we were cheering for a Britain racer to beat the record, and people just got arround us cheering for the "light blue guy", by the end, there was beer flying and free shots being given arround.. What I thought would be another lonely TdF stage watching, became one of my fonded sporting memories with 10 or so random people that I'll probably never see again. Thank you Manx Missile
Best *Sprinter at the TdF of all time.
Let`s make that perfectly clear.
The Tour brings out the most elite sprinters. You the most at the Tour = you are the greatest of all time.
@@tysonogloff Eddy Merckx Total = 276 wins. Merckx at his peak vs. Cavendish at peak. Think Cav beats him in any mountain stage ?
Come on, no one REALLY believes a sprinter is better than Merckx
He is the one with the most stage wins, that's the fact. Whether this makes him the best sprinter, is a subjective opinion. Other people may have other subjective opinions
@@CaminoCarpet Different eras . There is no comparing the two., and nobody is claiming Cav is better than EM. Of course you could also make the comment that Merckx competed against mainly cabbage farmers.
@@CaminoCarpet I mean, if you're going to start including proven drug cheats, then why not include Armstrong?
Not sure our commentator knows what is meant by 'standing on the shoulders of giants'. Sprinters arguably do win standing on the shoulders of their teammates and lead-out trains, but Cav hasn't surpassed Merckx by standing on Merckx's shoulders.
Mark, you legend!
'Standing on the shoulders of giants'... What, are they hiring Ph.Ds now for commenting the TDF? That was pretty awesome...
Been watching years and waiting for this win for Mark, i am a big fan!
Same here, what a day!!
7:51 - SLO-MO - see the rider in red-white jersey n the background at the crash bunny-hop over the rider on the tarmac - he cleared him and did a perfect 2-tire landing - marks out of 10 for that stick?
Absolutely shut the doubting people up,well done Sir
More stage wins then the undoubtedly best cyclist in the world, Eddy Merkx, is no joke. Serious stage win for Cavendish. He deserve it also.
They should have a statue made for him back in the isle of man. The greatest of all time.
Congratulations Cav .. ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD MA MAN 👏👏👏👏🚴🚴👏👏🚴🚴🚴
His experience got him this win! Mad fella. 39 and still strong
The best sprinter of all time. Every sprinters jersey for every grand tour. World champion bands, most sprint wins in grand tours. Exceptional Palmares
Wow, just wow
I really don't like his way of sprinting. He endangers others willingly. Should've been life banned 10 years ago.
Just barely seen, Philipsen tried to elbow Cavendish at the last second before CAV broke away. This is the reason Cavendish is loved and Philipsen is NOT!
Goes to show that Philipsen's elbow game is not at its peak
To be fair, Cavendish used to be the "bad guy" in bunch sprints too. I'd say he's mellowed a bit with time. There used to always be lots of argy-bargy with him and some of the other sprinters and leadouts. Reason is that MC is relatively unconventional (like McEwen before) - they don't need/have the leadout trains that Cipollini did and instead surf and bump their way around other sprinters' teams.
An example is the stage 1 crash in the TdF that started in Britain (2014?). He tried to follow a gap that didn't exist and crashed Gerrans out. To his credit, he did apologize afterwards - this was already some personality advancement!
As if Cav isn't known for head butts and dirty sprinting...
I did not think he had it in him anymore. Great win!
edit: wow that was not clean at all, but its Cav i guess, what do you expect lmao
Missile away💥
Questions will be asked in years to come on how it was possible for Cavendish to win this stage. A rider who was out on his feet after the first two stages... Possibly wont complete the tour, but something does not fit right in this stage win... Time will tell.
*WOW, WOW, WOW!* Super happy for Mark!
What a beautiful way to win. He really reminded everyone why he's so good surfing through those last 150 meters with such style, grace and power.
