I remember back when Renshaw was leading Cav out for THC/High Road. If the leadout train got to the front, nobody was catching either of them. There were several stages that Cav could have slammed on brakes and let Renshaw win, then taken second because they were so far out in front. It was an incredible 1-2 punch back then.
might get flamed but they really bungled it frankly as much as I love cav the key moment was ditching philippsen for Ackerman they basically led him out if p doesn't have to start and stop and start again idk that cav wins, pedersen also way out of position and crashes chapeau to cav for surfing excellently astana actually were smart by going to the front early because they knew they would likely fade in the end compared to the stronger teams. very clever.
Especially knowing how much he's looking forward to retirement. To put it back a whole year because he knew he had 35 in him and didn't want to forever resent that last year's crash took it from him.
@@Lotschi Quickstep "fired" him after he won them 4 stages of TdF in 2021. Quickstep chose Fabio Jakobsen for 2022 instead, leaving Cav with no team for TdF.
Congratulations to Astana for their superb support of Cavendish. It all went wrong last year but kudos to them for extending his contract and putting together a team to support him. Fantastic for Willier too ...what a marketing dream!!!
If you watch the Lanterne Rouge video, how Cavendish described what happened with Morkov, Ballerini, Bol and himself was absolutely spot on. The guy remembers absolutely everything, even through emotion. He's just on it the whole time. Amazing cycling brain. Well done; so happy.
Bought into the dream and story backed him with all his resource fair enough but it is risk /reward great coverage and this shirt and it's sponsors will now be iconic and shown everywhere, so it's great business too
Amazing. I've always been a fan but after watching his documentary I feel for him. I was on the edge of my seat as he pulled away and even teared up a little...well done Cav!
Just glad I have lived to watch all of this man's victories. He transcends sport. He is the total package. A fighter, a battler, ultimate skill. Thankyou Cav.
They didnt. The road was blocked so they all clunged up and couldn't continue. Then they congratulated him bc who wouldn't since you were stuck there anyway. Guy made history, but don't make up things that isn't true. Please.
What happened to all of the people who said that he's too old and he should retire? He's managed to prove a lot of people wrong, and he's done it in style against the world's best. Congratulations to Mark Cavendish!
He's pretty much 40, competing with young, hungry riders in their 20's. Wins his 35th stage making history in professional cycling. What an absolute GOAT!!!!!
Now he’s retired with a win in Singapore, maybe he’ll find himself thinking that if he’s still got the legs to win at the end of the season, perhaps them old pins may still do it at the start of the next! Probably not - it’s hard to think of a better step into retirement. Best to leave us wondering!
Brilliant. Such a great achievement and a Brilliant Competitor. Knighthoods get doled out a lot but this achievement genuinely requires MORE! Mark your a Legend and it's been a pleasure watching You. Thanks
I saw the documentary on his life on Neflix here in Canada. He went through so much adversity but endurance prevailed. I could not wait to see his 35th win. Beautiful, So well deserved.🥰 Please watch the doc , you will not be disappointed.!!!
Everything Cav achieves from this point on is just gravy on top. 35 stage wins when some top riders never won one, and would give anything to do so. Happy to have watched Cav's whole TdF career on TV, and a few times stood by the road side. Hang in there Cav because I'm going to Villeneuve sur Lot on the 11th to take some photos of you.
You see the joy in a riders' face, when they win a stage of the Tour. Many riders live for that one victory that is the highlight of their careers. To see him win his 35th, after the injuries, the illnesses, the struggles; unbelievable.
My father followed Mark's career from the first tour but unfortunately he died three years ago so missed this day, i'm glad he didn't see Marks crash last year and subsequent retirement announcement. He said he would achieve this record and now he has. He raced against Zabel AND his son who have both since retired. To think in such a physically and mentally demanding sport there was just under 16 years between first and last stage win.....unbelievable !!
Like fine wine people can get better as they age especially athletes who take good care of themselves. Don't sleep on older folks respect their wisdom. Congratulations to Mark Cavendish, such a champ, such a cyclist, such a talent. I hope he goes for more because he can do it!

Never been the biggest cav fan but have listened to all this----"the standard of sprinters is so much higher than a decade ago-----" he still beat them all though 😊.
It's amazing how much the last few years have added to his legacy. He was already a giant if he'd never won past 35; but to put on the wins he has, is otherwordly.
SUCH A GREAT HUMAN BEING!!!! NOBODY deserves this more than Cav and it was SOOOO great that he just SMOCKED that cocky POS a$$hole yasper disaster to do it! One of the best moments in sports I've EVER witnessed. Congrats mate!

This tour is already delivering hard. The netflix show is gonna be unreal.
Are they actually making it?
Oooh I hope they are making a season 3!
I doubt it. Netflix did some pretty dishonest tricky editing in the last season. A lotta teams will have pulled out
I'm not going to watch this season because the first one was horrible, but I heard this season again was all about glorifying crashes
Same here. Can't wait.
And it all started on a small island in the middle of the Irish sea. Congratulations, Sir Mark & his team. The GOAT.

Renshaw from key lead out man for Cav and now his DS. What a journey for the Marks.

I completely agree!
I'm sure Cav can do it. 🔥
He showed a clean pair of heels to Philipsen. I think he can get a 36th. Spirits in the team will be sky high.

I love Geraint Thomas' sly little "at his age" comment (since he's 38 lol). Chapeau, Cav.
wasnt sly at all, he even thought momentarily is this the right way to say it and at the end of the day it was haha
Mark Renshaw has been such a brilliant support for Cav and is himself such a wonderful person
Bravo Sir Mark! Crying with happiness. Such a sweet and hard won victory!
Such a humble lovely bloke. Great moment marked in history
