I have been a big cycling fan since the early 1980's and I am a massive CAV fan. I truly hope he gets the chance again to get that 35th TDF stage win! Making that documentary and really opening up about mental health was such a brave thing for an elite professional athlete to do. I have suffered with Complex PTSD for 35 years so I can empathise with what he has gone through. It is because of people like CAV speaking out it is a lot less likely mental health sufferers are seen as weak! Until you go through it yourself you could never understand the strength of character it takes! I am proud of you CAV for all you have achieved and for being so brave opening up! Great film!
I just want to say thank you for this video, I am a huge fan, admirer of Mark. I have followed him and his career for years, I wish nothing but the best for him in 2024. I'll be jumping up and down cheering him on all year but especially during the TDF.
I was going through depression and suicidal thoughts ppl said stop being so sensitive , man up , it's an excuse but watching Mark's documentary my respect for him went up even more than before . It takes a lot of strength to open up. What a person and an athlete Mark is 🔥
As a fellow cyclist I have to say, thank you for doing this podcast with Mark!! His so relatable and yet so individually out of reach as an athlete it’s incredible. His story, his legacy… his given us more than we can wish for as cycling fanatics! Having that one additional win will only add to the legacy his already created, i trust he will get it! I trust the pack will be there when he needs them to make it happen 🫶🏽 cant wait to see it!
So glad that Mark has finally chilled out (if only for his family’s sake) Just read “Boy Racer” and wow, what a confident but angry young man he was back then (in 2008) Didn’t realise he was the first British rider to win two stages of the Giro. So glad he fell in love with the road rather than just the track. So much more history & folk law which he has become part of. He’s simply a Legend
If you get a chance read Frank Williams autobiography! Its all about being able to turn that nearly won into winning. Turning the key that actually opens the door to winning!!! Mark has always had that!!!
This was sooooooo, motivational!!!! I Never, heard of this gentleman but, now I’m a Fan of you both! Thank you for sharing this and, the hard work that it takes to do this kind of content. Blessings, Crews
I saw a photo of a very young Tom Pidcock standing with his idol, Mark and it really made me appreciate how accessible he's made himself as a role model, but also how long he's been in the game, with Tom now competing with him so many years later.
Such a humble and nice guy. Bumped into him at London City Airport a few months ago, and despite what he has achieved he isn’t egotistical, taking time to out to chat. All the best Cav!
Nice location due to the background and the fact that you sit closer to each other. This makes the talk more personal and base level as you would normally have with this type of interview on a long table.
Wonderful interview! You are a true master at your craft, Rich. It was great to see this side of Mark, coming from a lifelong fan. Wishing Mark nothing but happiness and success both next year at the Tour and in his next steps. 🙏
It's not your job to spit your dummy out when you lose or blame others when you come up short, but fairdoos that's something you do very well and don't get paid a bean for. Well done Cav.
Loved this episode, Rich. As Olympic swimming medalist, (was at Cal when you at Stanford) so loved the openness, transparency and honesty. Brought me to tears in several places…all fun memories of total intensity. Love your stuff…thanks.
I'm a big fan of Mark Cavendish his recent Knighthood was thoroughly deserved, so glad he's worked through his struggles, I woke my next door neighbour (who was on nights) shouting when won the 35th TDF stage in style, also recommend his books they are an inspiration. Kind Regards CC 👍
Great guy, not your typical top athlete, he's humble, and down to earth. Not full of himself, not cocky. I'm an avid cyclist myself and love the sport, I think the image around the sport has changed a lot - for the better! He'd be perfect to coach young guys, especially when it comes to the mental part.
Only one other person has won as many TdF stages, and yet he seems so humble. Always credits his team mates for his win. Just a great, great athlete and person
You would think every pro team would be outbidding each other to take Mark to the TdF. The sponsor publicity from headline photos of Mark if he wins 35 would last forever. Mark Cavendish with a strong support team will be the highlight of this TdF.
That’s definitely not the vibe I get💯 Cav is obviously an imperfect person. However so is everyone. He taps into emotion and there’s a lot of pitfalls to taking on life that way. I think he shows maturity. I don’t know him personally, but I LOVE to watch him race. The crash at MSR a couple years ago was bonkers 🍻
Mark is a national treasure. Followed him since juniors and feel intrinsically connected to him and his career. His comeback was so impressive and such a moment for us fans. We love you man. Can’t wait for this season. One more push 🚴🏼♂️
Cycling at that level is incredibly mentally dependent. The bikes are all so similar, the fitness level so close, the skills. It’s way more mental toughness than cardio or bike brand.
Go Mark go for it, remarcable athlets become our best inspiration of life, cycling is a lifestyle, we never give up pushing pedals and from my behalf, I would bring cycling partnerships every school of every city of every country on this planet because.. it's so much fun riding the bicycles out there in the wild discovering hidden beauties, cycling champions holding an important experience they still are a huge asset for all of us. Cycling competitions are the best reason for sharing trips abroad, for dating new people, enemies for a ride, for a while, for a race and never for hatred, cycling worths a golden mine guys, you can bet on it. Wishing them retired riders never give up loving cycling for the young generations because...we have so much fun together yeah, the true meaning of life ❤🎉❤
It’s wonderful to see such an accomplished athlete speak with such humility. Thank you Rich! Your insights, experience as an athlete & your own mental health journey bring an insightful unique perspective to this interview making it very compelling.
Love the honesty.... With the results he has to be still normal..... Super Role Model... I can only wish Mark the very best in the future ...he deserves a great life.... Well done on a real honest interview ....
Let's be honest without the physical and mental health issues and some terrible crashes, CAV would have taken that TDF stage win record beyond 40 proven by the fact he was written off and years later when given the chance won 4 more stages! I have every confidence if he is in another TDF squad he will get his 35th stage!
Thanks for the great discussion! A very non-related question: I am admiring the space you are having the meeting. It looks like a garage. Can someone elaborate?
Such an amazing athlete, person and honest person....could listen to him all day....to have been a top world tour cyclist for this long speaks for itself...his passion, commitment and dedication is astounding....a total legend who deserves a knighthood....and of course win 35 at Le Tour 2024!
That was a great interview. Mark is so down to earth and a fantastic guy to boot! What I would love to know, and I have asked this of other RUclipsrs but had no reply............How many stages did Eddie win in sprints?. Probably one of the best Utube shows I have ever watched. Mark Cavendish admires the Ironman Athlete who comes in at the Ironman World Championships at 16hours. WOW! This dude is so humble! We need more like him in every sport!! 🤙👍
Brother at the start upto 15 mins this Beautiful Man Mark seemes Nicely Baked.... Obviously Jet Lag and then as he Balances his Fatigue 😅. Fantastic Chat as Always 🎉❤
I went through a period of depression and listlessness, I could go through a range of emotions in minutes and I had no control over how I felt. It took some amount of therapy to get me to understand what was happening and put my thoughts and emotions in order. It is important to have people around you who will help support you.
What a great interview. It's clear that Mark is able to be very introspective and honest with himself, which is something we're not all capable of being. He shouldn't have regrets about being, as he says, "a dick" when he was younger. We were all naive and somewhat thoughtless in our youth, and we weren't even superstar athletes. But the fact that his head is on straight now and he's able to see things from other perspectives will make him a happier person, a better person, and a better father. I really hope to see him win #35 this year, it's well deserved and I can only hope when he does it, the sprinter from Deceuninck comes in second. I have a grudge against that team since they left him off the Tour team last year, and they used to be my favorite team with Alaphilippe and Cav and the best lead out train in the business.
Mark your great...all the best from San Diego, most if not the rest of us can only dream...thanks Rich...your discussion with Tim Ferris is also an all time favorite of mine
Cav is already in the records books, but if he achieves the 35 stage victory, WOW, it may stay on top for a very long time, I hope. He has such a career full of achievements that even if he did't come back with Astana Team, would be a top career for anybody to envy for sure, let's not forget his track racing. Cheers to Cav 🥂
I am sorry, but a sprinter can never be the best cyclist in the world. The best one was probably Eddy Merckx. The best one at this moment is probably Tadej Pogacar or Wout van Aert. Don't get me wrong Mark was one of the biggest stars in pro cycling! Big respect for what he achieved.
Has MC ever claimed to be the Best Cyclist?.. He is the Best Sprinter Ever and a former World Champion. You mention Tadej and Wout but fail to mention Jonas and Mathieu.....
Eddy cheated sadly, best sprinter is good enough. Of course a sprinter can be the best in the world as he won world championships and so was for that year.

Listening to RR in this interview trying so hard sounded to me like he was stuck in a restaurant having to order off its menu without any vegan options. A difficult and impossible task.
U never asked him about his response to a journalist asking a perfectly legit question about doping. Or that Time he had an absolute fit with his bike mechanic. I could go on.. Great sprinter, knob head individual…
Bon , maintenant les faits ; Cippolini le plus titré des sprinteurs professionnels ! Super Mario avant Cavendish, comme meilleur sprinteur de tous les temps, mais quand on ne connaît pas son sport on dit n'importe quoi !!!!😊
Most elite athletes nowadays are so simple minded. To be on top you have to work 247. Dont get me wrong they're are very high achievers... just saying many of them lack personality depth.

Cueing this up for my workout! The Manx Missile on RR #mindblowingmotivation Good luck Mark we’ll be watching!
That Liquid Death product placement though
I have always been a huge Cav fan as a cyclist but as a fellow challenger of mental health issues I can so relate to him and what he is saying

Hey Rich, been following for years now. Congratulations on the sponsor and the great editing. It just keeps getting better and better. Thank you!
oh man right on time.... Love Cavendish!
Beautiful interview ❤️ Mark is a brilliant human being 💯 And I love watching him race. Regardless whether he wins or loses

Excellent! Thank you both so much!
I don't think that Mario Cipollini would agree with what it is said in the intro of this video 😂
I hope to be in Turin when that dream comes true. Thanks for the podcast, Rich.
Cav is such a cool cat. I just find him so entertaining in interviews. I’m all in on Project 35.
Great interview. I love how much he just loves riding his bike. Wish I could learn more about his recovery from Epstein-Barr. I was just diagnosed 😞

Fantastic interview rich. Really enjoyed it thank you
Thanks Rich, this was absolutely awesome. Mark is such a fine human and you let us all see this. Ride on!

Great breakdown but the title of this video is inaccurate and a turn off.
Glad to hear Mark is coming back. Even better to hear he's enjoying his life and cycling. Ride for joy.
One could never count this guy out when it came to the final sprint.
Don’t forget Freddy maertans dudes 😊
Chapeau mark, all the best for 2024 I’ll be willing you for the win from NZ 🇳🇿☀️☀️☀️🚴🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 can’t wait 👍🇫🇷 vive la tour ❤
hell 🎉 yeah ❤ mark
Yep he WAS Great. But not anymore, we all get older, slightly slower and if we are truly good sports, don't blame our kit!!
Rich, presently the 2024 TDF will not be shown in the USA. Can you influence this?
Huh? Peacock.
They discontinued this coverage
Is he related to Blake Griffin? Perfect lookalike
One thing I’m learning about these elite athletes is that they are honest and sincere with themselves
Best sprinter-maybe. Best cyclist? No way.
....and that's why i use doping products
Not the fastest of all time, the current WR is 296kph, I believe.
FIRST!!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
The Greatest Cyclist of All Time? For sure not, but best (bunch)sprinter of all time
One day I’ll be pro
Awesome.. Cav is the $&!+
Greatest cyclist? All time? Unlikely. Right up there as sprinter in grand tours, sure. Track? Sure. But calm down Rich.

Hi
Listening to RR in this interview trying so hard sounded to me like he was stuck in a restaurant having to order off its menu without any vegan options. A difficult and impossible task.
U never asked him about his response to a journalist asking a perfectly legit question about doping. Or that Time he had an absolute fit with his bike mechanic. I could go on.. Great sprinter, knob head individual…
read his books....
What are you going on about? That's your man-crush, that's all.
He's a TERRIBLE interviewer!!! Short questions, let your guest talk, ala Michael Parkinson.
I hope after his retirement we will not uncover another “L.Armstrong” case
whole word knew lance was doping as everyone was doping during the epo years. only people who didn't was the USA.
I find Mark Cavendish disingenuous.
He is not the greatest sprinter in the history of cycling. He knows that. He would never approve of you saying that.
who is better?
He is
