So the Nikon does higher mechanical burst and does 20fps electronic, but nothing about the e-shutter from the Lumix ?. it does 30fps.
I know that there is a way in video to set the camera to not refocus if it lost the focus on a subject and not hunt but stay in the point the focus was lost. How it could be turn on this mode? I can’t find it
I'd like to ask your truly honest opinion. I am a hobbyist landscape photographer. I have a Z6. I don't want more than a 24Mp camera. Although the Zf looks very appealing to me, I was thinking of upgrading to a Z6 II. The reason is that the AF on the Z6 sometimes struggles, especially when I shoot videos for RUclips. Also, when I shoot people, like live music gigs with high ISO in low-light, it is hard for me to trust the AF of the original Z6. The Z6 II now comes at a very competitive price. It is at 1100 Euros or 97,906.15 Rupees. The Zf comes at 1800 Euros or 160,210.08 Rupees. So, what would you do, personally? Would you buy a Z6 II and spend the rest of your available money elsewhere? Or buy the Zf which definitely is a less ergonomic camera with fewer buttons etc.
For your use case, if 10bit log is not a requirement in video and ‘very difficult’ low light af situations isn’t something you face, you should (I would) go for the the Z6II.
@@FramesTM A tough decision! Thanks a lot for the answer. I appreciate it! 🤙🙏🙏
The 1.8 is a stunning lens in terms of value for money and with regards to image quality and sharpness. At that price point, it's kind of a unicorn. I haven't tried the 1.4, but I'm always pro bright glass for more light when needed.
Are the ZF raw files better than the Z63? even if only by a tiny bit? i would think the new tech would be better so i don't know whether to believe what people say about D.R. true or fake news?
The Zf raw files are the most beautiful after Z9. Just crazy beautiful. The nature quality and colours.
L mount eco system has ton of great options with Highest end Leica glass to Panasonic Pro series to 1.8 primes to Sigma Art/sports/HSM series to Sigma f2/F2.8 contemporary lenses. I am not sure why someone would need 100s of lenses to choose from when in reality you will only ever need 4-5 lenses. The only lens missing is 16-35mm f2.8 but then again Sigma already has taken care of that. I use my S5ii with 35mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4. Lot of Sony users use that combo. There are range of anamorphic lens support and meike options. I think not having enough lenses in L mount debate needs to be put in bed once and for all!
PLEASE fix your audio , its filled with plosives also way too much bass put your mic a bit aside and at a distance maybe use a windmuff that will help with plosives
😢😢😢
?
Hey this is a really nice comparison, but would've loved to see these cameras being compared in other situations during the day. Full frame is the winner in Low light no doubt!
Good point
Canon R5 mark ii is a really nice camera, for me Nikon has nice telephoto lenses but I stick with Canon! 😉
Now if he only sat the camera for night video ly 25th and 1.8 or the lowest his lens can go.
Thank you for the information Sir. When do you expect to receive your copy of the Z50 ii ? I think many would like a in depth testing of that camera. AF, image file analysis, low light capabilities, etc... Not only going over the functionalities and upgrades. Thank you.
Fairly soon
@@FramesTM Fantastic. Looking forward to it. Did you notice that this, long awaited body, didn't get that much attention ?
Hey Frames, great insights. Having the D500, Z50, and Z30, I don't feel moved to buy the Z50II. As a nature photographer, I shoot birds mainly with the D500 and F-mount 300mm f/4 PF lens. The Z50II paired with the Z-mount 400mm f/4.5 S lens would weigh about the same (a huge factor for an old man who bushwhacks), but spending $4K to duplicate much of what I already have is a turnoff. Also not sure I like the idea of an autofocus mode for birds. I've been studying them for 40+ years and have relationships with many of my subjects here in southern New England. "Bird autofocus" is too easy and would put me in the category of people who need a camera to do most of the work. The photographer, rather than the camera, should drive the subject choice and shooting technique. "Bird autofocus," cars, planes, and the rest remind me of those awful scene modes like sunsets and flowers.
Hey Rob I agree. I think it was a miss unless Nikon launches a Z70 or something like that. Btw, I think there will be a Z70
@@FramesTM A Z70 would be interesting!
This is a great review👍 The samples shots clearly showcase the characteristics of the lens at variable apertures. It would also be interesting to know which body was used for the review shots (high or low megapixel) just as a frame of reference. These 1.4 primes are a great addition to the lineup, and I'm looking forward to more in other focal lengths.
Thank you bro!
Yup.
I wish Nikon would make a Z DX f/2.8 zoom with VR. If that happened I’d forgive them for no IBIS.
Not the camera I hoped for but after looking it over. I think it’s solid. However, I’m waiting for a Nikon Z fc II to get the incremental upgrades.
I think this is one of Nikon's better shadow drops. I like the specs, even with the older sensor, I am expecting cleaner images because of the Expeed7. IBIS is a letdown though. There are similar sized Fuji cameras with IBIS, so this is mostly a deliberate omission by choice. I still think I will get one for my niece, who is an aspiring videographer looking for something better than her Canon 80D. I was going to give her my Z6, but I think this is a better beginner kit.
How are you bro! 👊
All good bro! I hope all is well at your end as well!
Dull review wihtout positive attitude. Video sharpness is not that much good in this post
Not sure what you mean
The Z50 II would have been better with IBIS. Most of the lenses I have do not have built-in VR. I really liked the size of the Z50 and the Z50 II could've been one of the top aps-c cameras to buy. If I'm not mistaken, the Sony A6700 has IBIS.
True
As said earlier it's old wine in new bottle.... There was no need for Nikon to relaunch Z50ii with whatever alterations they did with it.... Instead they could have launched a semi pro & pro level Z bodies like say Z80(26MP)/Z90(33/40MP).... With advance features incorporating Exspeed 7 processor, IBIS,Dual card slots (CFExpress/SD), ENEL 15c battery with advance codecs for videos (for those who want the hybrid camera capable of doing 6K/8k videos)....All this could be launched in affordable price package between INR 1.25L& INR 1.50L....
Well done NIkon, a big update to an amazing little camera. The best part is the price point, and the Expeed 7 processor.
Let’s say you have a Sony A7cii and want a second body, would you rather have a Sony A6700 or this Nikon ZF? Main question is that you want to utilize the existing sony lenses that you have (Sigma 35/65/90 trio and Tamron 28-200) would you rather mount them on native sony a6700 BUT it’s crop sensor or on this ZF?
I really think it is at the perfect price point with the features I don't have with my Z 5 and Z 30. For birds and action shots it's perfect for me. I would like Z 9 or Z 8 but those are too expensive at the moment for my budget (dream cameras). Around 1000€ is something I think I can spend. 😊 🐦
Hmmm I see what you mean
Hi Frames - nice video. I do think that this is a great upgrade for budget wildlife photographers: if you compare it to the D500 it is 40% of the release price, it has the same sensor. It has 11 FPS mechanical where the D500 was only 10 FPS; it has animal, bird and 3D subject tracking, and the focus points are the entire frame. Neither camera had/has IBIS and IBIS is not extremely important for wildlife photography as you normally are shooting with high shutter speeds like 1/2000+. The absence of IBIS is more of a problem with respect to vlogging and video, although most of the DX Nikon zoom lenses have VR already, and so does the 70-200 2.8S and I beleive the 100-400 S lens (although I am not sure about this last one - oh and so does the 180-600 lens although these are not good for vlogging lol. I do think that 4k 60 cropped is a negative and this is likely a result of the old sensor - so that is too bad, but still for $900 - this is a beast of a camera - there is now a very viable wildlife set up for less than $5,000 which has often been the benchmark. If you got this camera with the 100-400 S (or with the 400 4.5 S) you would be well under $5k and would be able to get very professional results - so D500 people should be very happy with this offering. Just some of my initial thoughts. -PD
Hi Frames, I was excited about this initially and still interested but on the fence. The reason: I wanted something to fill in for my Zf or Z6iii during travel. When traveling I shoot 25% nature/wildlife and 75% street photography and the tilt screen on a Fujifilm or Panasonic older GX9 would do better. Yet, I wanted it to be the Z50II and I may just have to accept the flippy screen. But then again, the Zf though 50% heavier has it all, including stabilization. Sigh.... always looking for perfection! 😆
I feel it’s a bit of a miss
I was waitng for the upgrade but This is the useless camera for upgrade from z50. Its good for first time buyers only. I was expecting the atleast ibis and dual card like canon r7. Nikon you disappointed me.
Well it’s not that bad too
I own Z50 from 4 years and I love that camera bcz it's compact and picture quality. No doubt mark 2 is good choice for first time buyers only. For me its not worth for upgrade just for improved AF UHS ii card etc I need Ibis.
@5:50 thats on point!
Thank you!
Sad that there is no grip available and as you said the battery, otherwise it would be a potential D500 replacement! The z50ii is a consumer camera where the d500 was a prosumer camera. But in some ways it already is a better camera than the D500 (pro capture especially).
Nikon killed the camera with the lack of ibis. Why adding new video advancements and not being able to hand held it with non vr lenses?
Lack of IBIS is a frustration. I think there will be a Z70
Fine with the sensor and everything looks good but no ibis is a killer. Was ready to sell my Olympus gear for this as a travel camera but i love using ibis with prime lenses.
in the same boat @steventhomas231 and nothing beats that M43 form factor with ibis and lightweight lenses! I may use funds for the OM-1 or OM-5
Great
nikon z50 je velmi dobrý fotoaparát. Jediné co mu chybí je stabilizace snímače. Možná nás nový Z50 ll překvapí. Díky
Unfortunately the Z50II doesn’t have ibis.
@FramesTM ano není stabilizace😞, ale i tak to bude fain fotoaparát. Kdybych ho měl před 20 lety, tak jsem šťastný. I tak, klidně bych si ho pořídil i dnes. Díky
If the Dynamic range is good, thanks to the iso range, along with a vasty improved auto focus, this sub $1000 camera will be an easy recommendation, especially for street photography. IMHO. Thanks for the video.
Agree
no ibis, come on Nikon...
Yup
I recently visited nikon experience zone and autofocus n autoexposure were not upto the mark.. z8 was way better , so waiting for deal for z8
Its always an element of risk involved when you shoot people often unaware on the street. Some people dont care whilst others do. I find talking to people can help diffuse the situation. Having a small camera and lens helps. I often just walk looking at my lcd an the camera as if im looking at soming or videoing similar to people using their mobile phone lol
change the back button to 3d detection lock on, or take face detection off. It works perfectly. Have mine set up like that
děkuji.
You are welcome!
You are welcome!
In my country, in public space, (humanly) visible from public space, means I can take a photo without any permission, I own the intellectual property (IPr), and do not need permission for publication. Military and infrastructure things may be excluded from this freedom. And people can ask me not to publish a publicly shot image they are in "if their reasonable interest gets harmed by the publication." This requires a court case and your interest must be very obvious to the judge. Which means it is also obvious to a photographer. In recent years, children (underage subjects) have become a form of limitation to the publication aspect. In the sense of the law I do not have to haggle with people. If they don't want to "pose" then that's fine, but I can shoot whatever I want, in, visible from, public space. As to the missed shot of the video, if the composition is that important, work from tripod, shoot multiple shots and remove the person easily that you don't want in the shot. Don't forget your camera's rear display that can operate in "touch, focus on the touch point, shoot". This is extremely fast on your Nikon Z 8, or other cameras. Fold the display out and look down on it. Set the camera in stealth mode and the public doesn't think you are taking photos with them in the frame. Way back in the film days, we had the Hasselblad (SLR, Rolleiflex TLR, etc.) and other (real) medium format cameras with the "chimney viewfinder" that you needed to look down into. While you look down through the viewfinder, people aren't alerted so they don't change their behaviour. It's not about creepily shooting images but about wanting natural behaviour. With the Hasselblad there was a lot of noise from the mirror flipping up. A TLR has a leaf shutter that is practically silent. With mirrorless and electronic shutter and silent AF lenses, you can shoot multiple frames whilst retaining natural behaviour. Note that sharing your image with another person without any form of contract may become a pain to you, if/when they use it commercially. As to portrait, in my country when I hire you to model for me, I own all rights, when you hire me as photographer and pay me, the default is that you own the intellectual property (as in copyright) but in publication have to mention me as photographer. Of course contracts can change this, but between a business (even a one-man-photographer) and a private person, the private person has more legal protection. You can make terms & conditions that I am not aware of and consequently are void or voidable in court. Ts & Cs that deviate from the legal default need very explicit communication here. Between a photography business and a business client there are no protections against one's own stupidity. In some countries, there is a tradition or a legal obligation to write and sign a "model contract" with the "sitter" (poser ;) ), which you do before starting to shoot. You then likely also have them sign a statement after the shoot that all went in line with courtesy, etiquette, or so, as a risk mitigation that later on they accuse you of misbehaviour. There are too many people who organise shoots with the wrong intentions. Between the countries in the world there is no sound IPr agreed. This goes back to before WW2 when an attempt was made at a conference and at some point the US walked out of the negotiations. The conference concluded that nation states would "respect" each other's IPr laws. Which is meaningless when US companies browse the web for images that have no registration in the US copyright system and register those images in the US. If that happens to you in India with your valuable image, good luck when the image gets published commercially in the USA. There's not a lot of money to be earned from stock photography, but when your image is used without your name and making money for someone else, then that is sad. In the US legal practice (jurisprudence), you have no legal protection of your IPr if you publish before copyright registration of your images in your name. In my country the mere fact I shot the image is enough to have IPr. You can see there is a conflict here in an international sense. But you are a hobbyist. Well, that may be the case, but you can end up in these situations and do not want to be abused. In the case of Google, in RUclips we see a lot of "reaction" channels. These are all treated, irrespective of where the channel owner is (in legal sense), as if US law applies. Channels have been demonetised or content under evaluation in the video got the entire video removed. Unless the owner of the channel list a disclaimer under US law that allows the use of someone else's IPr for journalistic, educational and/or review purposes. How this is legal has some requirements, but without the disclaimer, Google will take these measures if there are complaints. So much for respecting the IPr laws of other countries. On the level of nation states the respect may exist, but in practice that is worthless. In the US, the term "copyright" is generally used instead of Intellectual property and that's an incomplete legal picture in a fine semantic sense. We need to distinguish 1- the right to shoot a photo 2- the person who shot it 3- the owner of the intellectual property 4- the right to make copies 5- the right to publish These are not simply straightforward. As to 3, think of a photographer (2) being employed by a news agency. Or a commercial-editorial with an art director (AD) telling 2 what to do, a make-up artist (MUA) doing something special that becomes part of the photographs, and the businesses for which the AD and MUA work. As to 4, a private person in my country has the right to make a copy of an artwork for private use. This means they cannot publish (5), and the need to own the artwork without necessarily having 1..5. In the US, copyright is about settling (documenting) 3 in a public register, and with that also 4 and 5.
Awesome
Why my nikon z6 iii only focuses on one thing....i want it to focus on background too...plz help which setting should i change...
What you are talking about is depth of field, not focus. If you want both the background and foreground in focus, you need more depth of field. You achieve that with smaller apertures (larger f numbers). So to get more areas in focus, your aperture needs to be f8, f11, f16 instead of f2.8, f4, f5.6. Does that make sense?
Can you imagine if nikon decided to start making apsc cameras to compete with Fujii on the same level their cameras are on? We see what they did with the z8 and z9. There's a lot of street photographers that use Fujii gear because it's small and lightweight. Their lenses are great. Nikon will never do this. You won't see f/1.2 DX lenses. They could produce a 16-50mm f/2.8 lens that would be equivalent to the 24-70mm in full frame. The zfc II should be more like the Fujii cameras with more features. The z30 may be a great camera but it should have been the z10 or z20. The z30 should have been the successor to the d3500. They need an entry level camera with a viewfinder that's cheaper than the z50. No flip out screen. Basic evf. Limited video and subject detection. It should be a beginner's learning camera that gets them ready for their next camera. Where are the cheap $500 cameras?
This video deserves more views!!
I fking agree 😄
A couple of important facts: 1) Z6 III applies no noise reduction in RAW, and applies FAR less in H.265, ProRES 2) A7S III applies heavy amount of noise reduction which you can't reduce 3) A7S III has a bigger pixel size, which helps with light gathering so greater low light performance 4) Nikon's NLOG has poor dynamic range, so an NLOG2 is very much needed which would dramatically improve the Z6 III performance.
Agreed
Great
Hi Frames! This is very timely for me. Great discussion! I'm really enjoying my Zf and Z6iii, the latter for my pro work. I sold all my Fuji gear to justify. I kept only my X-E2 because it's magical. I have a collection of M43 cameras and lenses but there's not one single camera that suits my needs or wishes for street photography. If Nikon could produce any kind of rangefinder style or tiny SLR style camera, no matter the sensor, as long as it had an EVF and tilt screen, I'd jump on it. For now, the Z50 just doesn't cut it.
Yes I totally agree
The reasons camera's became this expensive is because not enough people were buying reasonably priced camera's. manufacturers need margin either a big margin on low volume or a small margin on very high volume. A lot of complicated economics is making it very difficult for Japanese companies to produce a cheaper camera and internationally dollar inflation which already destroyed more than 1/5 of the dollars value is making it very unlikely anything really interesting will be hitting the market for less than $1200 without a lens. Also of note, the only aps-c sensors on sony's product lineup is that 2018 26mp sensor and an industrial 30mpix stacked one from the same year. Now I can see nikon releasing a poor excuse of a camera with that ancient 26Mpix sensor loaded with a bunch of image profiles and a red codec for less than $1000 and have youtube talking heads gush about it being the best thing since sliced bread. But that isn't going to make it a good camera Same for the 30mpix sensor but since it's fast they'll want ~$1600 for it, making it look cheap compared to the competition. while still being very expensive for what it is.
I've been looking forward to this camera for over a year, I hope to have my ZF before the end of 2024. I've tried it and it's a machine wonder, I think it's not a camera to test and sell, it's a camera to grow with.
I agree…
I agree with you. I think The Z50 could be improved a great deal with a reasonable price increase. The form factor of that body is appreciated by many. Not sure if it could accommodate the Xpeed 7 processor and IBIS. Perhaps with a slight form factor increase. Not everyone likes the vintage bodies and the price jump with the Z6iii is too wide.
