100%. The Z6iii is many leagues ahead. Megapixel is the only advantage on the D850. If you don’t need to crop more than 50% of the times then sell it and get the Z
Resolution of D850 (45MP) compared to Z 6iii (24.5mp) were not as dramatically different as it seems, if both had an OLPF. But the Z 6iii has one and the D850 has not. If both were the same then doubling resolution (think in PPI) means doubling a sensor of X*Y=MP becomes 2X*2Y=4MP. However the OLPF - introduced to help software in deBayerisation of the raw image - takes a lot of sharpness away that is not a problem at 24MP but 36MP and higher gets in the way. Compare in DxOMark Nikon's D800 (with OLPF) to the D800E (Eliminated OLPF) by having the sharpest F-mount lens on both. You'll be shocked to see the difference. Next compare a D750 or so to the D800 and you'll see that the impact of more MP on sharpness is less. Same applies between D800E and D850. The difference between a full frame 24MP with OLPF though and a 45MP without OLPF is huge. If you only shoot video that doesn't need the extra MP the Z 6iii is fine. If you frequently print very large where people can walk up to your prints, buy the Z 8. I migrated from a 24MP D camera to the Z 7 when firmware was at 2.0 to get rid of the OLPF that had caused me some color cast in stronger backlit scenes, and to get rid of 45 years of chromatic aberration with pro F mount lenses. Also tint differences are gone between "S" class Z lenses. Buy a Z 8 with FTZ as migration strategy and replace lenses one by one.
Thanks for the comparison! Been researching what to get of the two! If it's okay, do you have NEF samples for the z6iii? especially portraits? Looking forward to hear from you! Thank you!
This is strange. My friend, who has a Zf and the Z8, was impressed by the AF on my A6700. We found the a6700 AF to be leagues better than the ZF at least. I don't have the A7 iv tbh. Maybe, it is not Sony's latest and greatest as the Z6 iii is Nikon's.
I always feel Sony autofocus is better when I am not testing it. Our perceptions played games with us. The reality is often different. The Z8 has been shown to do better af in birding than A1. So!
Hello, I have been watching your videos. Love them... the content as well as the colours you output. I use Fuji X T4 for birds etc... So always Manual modes and Manual AF / back button focus I really have no idea what it will be like to use AF... And time and again thing of switching to Sony and now, Nikon And I still wonder if I will later miss the fun it takes making pictures using manual mode Since you are used to so many camera systems, what are your thoughts ? Thanks :)
My simple answer to that is, you can use manual mode in any camera. But the joy of being able to track and subject when it’s doing the cutest thing ever out in nature… nothing can put a value on that
For the comparison, discussed at 5:15, 4K :: 6K 24mp :: 54mp it is a [1.5 x 1.5 = 2.25] factor. This is why wanting 33mp is chasing numbers without significant benefit. The video files have more compression than still images, so the data flow out of the processor may limit the stills fps below 40. And the incentive to keep it at 20 fps is simple: the Z9/Z8. The dynamic range difference is barely noticeable. The simple solution: avoid pushing the file to its limit. We only do that to stroke our egos. Nobody else cares. In the end, what makes a video harder to watch is distracting slide transitions. If the photographer doesn't know how to "manage the scene, use lighting," perhaps they should stick with their iPhone? Nikon's goal with the Z6III is to be 90% for 80% of users. Sony's goal with the A7IV seems to be 70% for 70% of users. This camera is also more than 2.5 years older.
Sold my Fuji gear and narrowed down to z6iii & a7iv… fps, partial stacked sensor, & pre capture are great… but 33mp & unlimited (affordable) lens options are leaning me back to Sony. Idk why Nikon so slow & limiting with latest 3rd party lenses…
The Z6iii is certainly formidable for its price range. However im curious if the lack of a sensor screen will lead to more sensor dust, particularly of changing lens outdoors for wildlife photography
Well, changing lenses during wildlife is a rare thing. And it depends on practice how quickly you can do it. We’ve been changing lenses like that forever
To be fair, you are comparing a just released camera to one that is approaching 3 years since it's first Release. The Sony a7iv is at least 2.5 Years older TECH.
Concerning dynamic range in video, the a7iv is the best of sony mirrorless camera, better than the a7siii, the new a7rv and the new a9iii…so this is not a « problem » to compare it with the z6iii Concerning photo’s dynamic range, same…I don’t think that the a7v will have more DR than a7iv You will never see internal raw on the a7v…so the z6iii will have the advantage for that In video, I don’t think that the a7v will offer something revolutionary, compared to the a7iv, perhaps 4k60 without crop but no more AF yes maybe we will need to wait the new a7v…but I don’t think that the difference will be significant
@@peterra2532 you don’t “think” you are going off your feelings. Not Facts. But it’s okay you can be a Nikon shooter it’s okay no problem. Just know Canon Sony and Panasonic have better autofocus dynamic range and value over Nikon cameras. But you can choose which ever just know those are far superior leading the camera industry atm.

At the time A7iv and Z6iii were both $2500. It's fair to compare two equal priced cameras, if Sony thought the camera was outdated they would have discounted it like they are now
Sony a7iv has (729) autofocus points 94% coverage of sensor area while nikon z6iii has 75% coverage for sensor area. Sony has more lenses available than nikon. Algorithm of sony at 10 bit 14 stops is better than nikon 12 bit raw then why we need raw to occupy more space on memory cards. Dynamic range of sony is better than nikon.
Singh, the dr of Sony is not better. It has noise reduction and colour shift. The datarate of 4K 24 raw normal quality is equal to Sony XAVC si. It’s all there in he video. But I’m not your dad. Spend the money where you want to. Z6III has 96% of sensor coverage. And Ji nahi, Sony does not have 729 af points. Nikon doesn’t have 300 af points. Those are only SELECTABLE points for autofocus single. In mirrorless cameras af happens on sensor on every pixel with thousands of micro lenses. It’s not as simple as you think. Buy what you are biased for. That’s it.
Where do u get those Nikon stats, ur ass 😂. There is no way u compared the colors of the sony to a nikon and saying the nikom has 75% coverage when even the original z6 had 95%. Also the Nikon lenses are better than Sonys iver a mile so it doesnt matter than sony has more
Ur a goof just because tboth camera have close to the same auto focus coverage doesnt mean sony more accurate or faster ..its been proven that the z63 is more accurate...have u even ever used raw in post ..u should know having the ability to change exposure in video like u do in stills is leagues better then some baked in compressed 10 bit log on.the sony 😂😂
Where are the f1.2 primes on Sony? Where are the superlight super telephotos on Sony? Where are the built in teleconverter lenses on Sony? After 10+ years. The biggest problem of Sony isn’t the brand. It’s the blind unintelligent partisan culture its users have.

@@bradl2636 The 24-70 2.8 is absolutely sharp even at 2.8, even at 24, even in the corner of the frame, which is unthinkable for any other similar zoom lens. The a7IV is no longer a contender in the price bracket. It is way behind the competition. The canon r1, nikon z6iii and lumix s5iix are way better for the price.

@@jpdj2715 Great insight and perspective, this greatly helps me, thank you!!
Do not sell d850
Actually, Panasonic has the reputation for the best video stabilization.
True
So!
A6700 has AI autofocus that A7r5 and A93 have. A7iv doesn’t.
I agree. I have both the Z8 and A7iv. It's because the Samyang lens is far inferior to native Sony lenses.
@@TyLaiMD what
@@livejames9374 He is using the samyang lens on the A7iv, which is a 3rd party lens and not as accurate as a sony lens would be.
What do you mean a7Siv brother?
Hmm I really wish Nikon would allow video clips to be recorded to both memory slot.
Agree
Great video !
And now it is also time to compare the XH2s and Z6 III (similar in price)
With the XF 150-600mm and Z 180-600mm
Will try to do that
Hello, I have been watching your videos. Love them... the content as well as the colours you output.
I use Fuji X T4 for birds etc... So always Manual modes and Manual AF / back button focus
I really have no idea what it will be like to use AF... And time and again thing of switching to Sony and now, Nikon
And I still wonder if I will later miss the fun it takes making pictures using manual mode
Since you are used to so many camera systems, what are your thoughts ?
Thanks :)
My simple answer to that is, you can use manual mode in any camera. But the joy of being able to track and subject when it’s doing the cutest thing ever out in nature… nothing can put a value on that
For the comparison, discussed at 5:15,
4K :: 6K
24mp :: 54mp
it is a [1.5 x 1.5 = 2.25] factor.
Thanks for your comment
@@FramesTM You you actually check your math and get it right. Maybe ask a friend who passed the JEE?
@UnconventionalReasoning agree with the facts. Disagree with the rest thanks
@5:50 thats on point!
Thank you!
Thank you for the test…the noise reduction on sony camera makes us believe they have better dynamic range…
Can anyone pls suggest a good full frame camera for still photography . Zf vs a7cii or else...
Z6 iii
i will buy z6iii only if their z lens are already complete. where is 24mm f1.4?
Why do you want 1.4? 1.8 S prime lens from Nikon are as great as L lens from canon or 1.4 from sony…and 1.4 vs 1.8 are very similar in term of bokeh
Sony is great. The A7IV is a super super camera
Then get the sony to nikon adapter. Yes, they exist.
@@seemyworld1 i thought of that but do I really what to have an adapter on all the time, compromising the weather sealing & mount integrity…
I lost count how many times you said A7S 4....
😂🤦♂️
The Z6iii is certainly formidable for its price range. However im curious if the lack of a sensor screen will lead to more sensor dust, particularly of changing lens outdoors for wildlife photography
Well, changing lenses during wildlife is a rare thing. And it depends on practice how quickly you can do it. We’ve been changing lenses like that forever
dang after 5 days straight of research i was about to switch to sony and then you said 1.5x crop at 4k 60 ........... ugh........
Haha get the Nikon or the Lumix

Hey ya that’s a good idea
Sony a7s IV?? My guy already got 1 before release 😟
😆
To be fair, you are comparing a just released camera to one that is approaching 3 years since it's first Release. The Sony a7iv is at least 2.5 Years older TECH.
And Nikon Just caught up to Sony’s 2018 release Sony a7iii in autofocus 😂. Nikon fanboys hate Facts so sad. 😅
Concerning dynamic range in video, the a7iv is the best of sony mirrorless camera, better than the a7siii, the new a7rv and the new a9iii…so this is not a « problem » to compare it with the z6iii
Concerning photo’s dynamic range, same…I don’t think that the a7v will have more DR than a7iv
You will never see internal raw on the a7v…so the z6iii will have the advantage for that
In video, I don’t think that the a7v will offer something revolutionary, compared to the a7iv, perhaps 4k60 without crop but no more
AF yes maybe we will need to wait the new a7v…but I don’t think that the difference will be significant
@@alphaandomega2709 Currently I own a z8 and a lumix s5iix...in the past I have worked with the a7iv, a7siii, fuji xh2s and the r6mkii. In photos, the z6iii actually has less good DR than Sony, Lumix and Canon.
In video it's different, the canon is limited with the c-log 3, the n-log is better, then above you have the s-log 3 and especially the v-log (the best)…but thanks to the n -raw Nikon takes the advantage, the quality of your images will be better than the competition which only offers 10bits.
For AF, the z8 is similar to Sony and Canon, the lumix s5iix and especially the xh2s seem inferior to me.
@alphaandomega2709: I think Nikon creators and way more skilled than the Sony canon Lumix creators like you. They never had to change and they make money despite their inferior gear.
Nikon releases four new luts for Nlog created by RED.

@@FramesTM couple of big RUclips influencers have made videos about this. I personally have not been to the Nikon site yet too confirm.
New camera apparently better than older camera!!! THIS IS BREAKING NEWS!!!! Lol this comment section is hilarious but hey Sony got your video 17k views so shout out to them ya know?
New camera is not always better than old camera.
Also the Nikon lenses are better than Sonys iver a mile so it doesnt matter than sony has more
Nikon says it’s 95% coverage. You’re comparing video with noise reduction to raw which has no noise reduction. What a nonsensical post.
Yeah and the winner is my D850😅
Hahaha
A7S4? does not exist.
Agreed
for the lenses sony still better than nikon i love nikon image quality but they dont have good lens selections dont have any sigma full frame lenses
Every Nikon lens is better than every Sony lens. In third party, except Sigma all other brands are available
Ur Video is Informative but Lessen the Blurness next time, its highly irritating
Ok
Sony cant shoot 4k60 cus the heat is insane. Absolute rubbish..
Nikon definitely continues to lag the competition. The Z lens catalog is sparse. Big heavy honking expensive lenses. Where are the f1.4 primes...???
Where are the f1.2 primes on Sony? Where are the superlight super telephotos on Sony?
Where are the built in teleconverter lenses on Sony?
After 10+ years.
The biggest problem of Sony isn’t the brand. It’s the blind unintelligent partisan culture its users have.
Best 24-70 2.8 ever made? Best 50 1.8? Best 24-120 as well as 180-600, Plena, super light telephoto lenses for the pros? You should turn on your monitor, or open your eyes.
@@thephenom6327 I’d be happy to give you my opinions on those but what are your selection criteria for “Best”..?
@@bradl2636 The 24-70 2.8 is absolutely sharp even at 2.8, even at 24, even in the corner of the frame, which is unthinkable for any other similar zoom lens.
The 50 1.8 is a Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 at max and that says it all
I highly recommend working with them at least once, if you don't have the opportunity, go to digital picture and just compare z 24-70 2.8 vs rf or e and you will realize that if you want to invest in native and expensive lenses, the canon and sony options are not even close.
Nikon can't even record to dual card slots for video. Still a potato. 🥔
Cf express card is more robust than 2 sd cards on the same camera…
The a7IV is no longer a contender in the price bracket. It is way behind the competition. The canon r1, nikon z6iii and lumix s5iix are way better for the price.

If you’re doing hybrid work, you’d not be using RAW videos, it would be a pain on the backend.
