I'm so happy i stayed with Nikon. Almost jumped shipped back in 2019, and got a Sony A73 or Canon R6, but the original Z6 was enough to keep me on the Nikon side. My gut feel paid off, eventually got the Z9 beast (can't resist D850 + D6 + Red Camera in one body) and now the baby Z9 beast in a smaller form factor Z6III! Thanks Nikon!
Thank Julia for such a COMPREHENSIVE review. I love it when you demonstrate its auto focus system once in a while loses its focus on you or on your cat’s eyes. You also demonstrate that it always focuses on you even though another person is moving in front of you. What a great job!
Thank you for an honest review and beautiful images as usual. And I love it that you shoot a lot using the rear screen. I saw one of you other videos where you mention doing that, and I think is very liberating for portraits and people photography. 👍
1:50 Jared froknows always had the problem with autofocus while reviewing some nikon units (like this new z6iii). But other reviewers nailed the focus every time. Idk why he is struggling.
Jared did some crazy spinning and jumping around with the previous Z6ii as well 😂 Dude look like he was in the Matrix😂 it was kinda hilarious and a wtf moment for the autofocus test.
Oh come on now, really. So you're gonna sit there with a straight face & claim no one else had issues with Nikon AF? I guess you've missed the many reviewers who have mentioned it in their reviews, especially with the Z6, Z7 line & some even found the Z8 & Z9 to still not track as well as Canon & Sony. So tired of brand fanboys trying to blame user error & cover for mediocrity
I'm going to be clear, this is the best and only acceptable way that a photographer or a camera reviewer can be seen on all the entire video, your doing it even better that petapixel and other channels, I prefer your way of getting in to the shot, I think is more clever than just been in front of the mic saying whatever comes to mind about the camera, you are showing what you're saying and I appreciate that. Thanks a lot for the video Julia
For non professionals, this new body checks all the right boxes. It caters to all types of genre of shooting. To me, that bright EVF is a blessing. I expect Nikon to sell truck loads of this new body. Do expect a very very long waiting period. I'm tempted to get this as a back up for my Z9. Think I'll get it when travelling abroad, leaving the big brother for specific task only
Good review! Re: 200 shot / shutter re-press, I think you have the limiter on / set to 200. Steve Perry did a continuous shooting buffer test and it ran for 2 minutes before he ended it himself.
Julia, I echo your preference @7:50 for a Sony A7RV-like screen. I think Nikon missed a great opportunity here to satisfy both the flippy/fully articulating screen camps of users.
The camera looks absolutely amazing! I've left Nikon recently for Sony but now I kinda feel like coming back. I really like what Nikon have been doing recently, the Z8 is amazing and so are the S-line lenses. But... the screen again. I have the same style of screen on my A7 IV and I am definitely not a huge fan of it. Well, Nikon was quite loud about the new viewfinder but I haven't heard anything about the screen so I'm curious. How does it compare with the A7 IV in terms of brightness? The thing is, when I shoot a wedding or an event with my A7 IVs on dual camera straps, I tend to just turn the screen and have it on the camera body (otherwise I'm quite worried about the hinge when moving around) but then sometimes the issue is that from some very weird angles I can hardly see anything. Maybe if the screen was brighter, it would help a bit.
I'm seeing the same thing I've seen on the Z8, most if not all of these close up shots are either eyelash or eyebrow focused. None are on the iris. Maybe it's the autofocus setting? Look closely and you'll see it,
good job Julia. Way more informative than other videos. I could tell this took a ton of work to put together. I switched from Sony to Nikon for the Z8 and never looked back. I ended up getting an EOS R8as a cheaper b cam and love that too. I'm considering selling the R8 for the z6 III so I can be in one ecosystem, but the R8 works perfectly for what I need and I don't think I won't. I don't shoot video in raw and kind of prefer the auto video settings that Canon spits out
Very good review, Julia. But I personally find that I can get sharper images when holding the EVF up to my eye and bracing my elbows against my body. But you did a good job.
I am a long time Nikon pro . I shoot the Z8 and Z9 as well as the original Z6 (and still once in a while My D4). All used for different applications. This camera looks interesting to me ONLY from a video perspective (which I currently do not shoot). Video specs are terrific. I cannot see the benefit of an upgrade from my original Z6 to justify the $2500 bucks. Any shortfalls in the Z6 (like focus speed etc) can be handled by my Z8 and9. Obviously the brighter viewfinder is nice, as is faster focus, and tracking, and the increased shutter speed capability (yawn). All provide a small benefit, but none would win in a cost-benefit analysis. Hope it does well....just is not for me.
You can't see benefit of upgrade from Z6 because you have top tier cameras. Upgrade is significant from Z6II. I think this camera is not aimed at you. Btw I miss my D4, I regret selling it :(
When I record vertical videos in portrait orientation and put them into davinci they are orizzontal and cropped, there is a way to have angle and zoom automatically correct and not change angle and zoom for each clip in the timeline?
Finally, Nikon fills a market segment where previous models were not competitive against the competition. But is it too late? In recent years, many photographers and photo enthusiasts have chosen to abandon the brand in favor of Sony, Canon, and Fuji. It's evident that since the production of mirrorless cameras began, Nikon has fallen behind. The new Nikon Z6 III seems to be an excellent camera on paper. Personally, I've always used Nikon, with their extraordinary DSLRs. I've also worked with the Nikon Z6 II professionally, but I found it unreliable for eye detection autofocus, etc. Consequently, I switched to Sony and, staying in the same segment, I find the Sony 7 IV exceptional. Moreover, Sony's lens lineup is very extensive. Despite Nikon's high-quality build, viewfinder, and display, I won't go back. I think too much importance is given to technology. Personally, what I look for in a professional camera is reliable autofocus, quality, and feel. With Sony, for years, I've been able to get what I had with Nikon DSLRs. I still hope that Nikon achieves the success it deserves with this new camera, but I think the competition is very fierce and that it's difficult for those who have switched to other brands to decide to go back, especially for economic reasons.
Very good camera, but it is said to have a half stacked sensor and that make me wonder how much the Z7iii will be if this one is gong to be priced at $2500 in US and roughly AU$3700-$4000. Also what sort of tech will be packed into Z7iii? Some reviewer said the autofocus of this camera is not quite as sticky as the Z8 or Z9.
I mean it doesn’t matter what you shoot they all look stunning but damn, Nikon is going for the throat now. Now do I replace my Zf or just add it to my kit?
