I'd be a lil worried about putting the fuel fill cap out the tail like that, over the bumper-ish. If the filler cap ever comes off, you'd drop fuel soon as you take off.. no? Super cool build regardless!

I have a 2001 Astro passenger van like yours that has rust in the rear of the frame near the rear leaf spring perches…. Using the box beam to replace the rear section is genius! I just need to do the repairs to keep it on the road a few more years. I will probably use a box beam and some 3/4” angle iron to create the flange to plug welding it in! Thanks for the great idea! I may strip off all the plastic around the bottom too, to fix all the rust!
