Jamaica Yard has always had two driving lessons, as some of the R160 cars have Siemens propulsion. So does Pitkin Yard eventually, as the R46s were to be retired, leaving them with R179s and R211s. If Pitkin becomes just one car type, Jamaica will have to train with three car types. There’s only half as many 5-car R179s as Siemens-propulsion R160s, and the MTA wants all Siemens-propulsion cars in one yard.

@@Userman_054 2nd Avenue has terminating tracks that aren’t used in normal service. Those tracks are never used by the F. If something happens on the M where it can’t connect with the J, it has to terminate at 2nd Avenue because that’s the only place where trains are able to turn around after Broadway-Lafayette. 2nd Avenue can also be used by the A and C trains if they get rerouted via 6th Avenue and can’t go further than that.

No, unless Option Order 2 comes out with the very, VERY small fleet expansion order of R211A 4 Car sets in the late 2020's, it will not be happening.

@@mikayelmirzoyan3950 Actually that’s not true. These 2008 units in particular have always been in Staten Island, hence why they’re in NYCT and not under MTA Bus Company. Spring Creek depot in Brooklyn has about 22 of these though, so I can see why you would think that. Castleton depot in Staten Island only has 4.
