  • Nearly a year after the debut of the base order of the regular R211A fleet, the MTA finally completed the R211T's tests throughout the entire system, including extensive clearance and burn-in tests to be sure these trains would be fully ready for revenue service. On February 1st 2024, half of the "soft shell" and half of the "hard shell" variants of the R211T were coupled together (designated R211T-1 and R211T-2 by the MTA's survey links), in order to get a definitive first revenue run perspective on both sets of the R211T model, in order to find out which one would overall perform better, and which one would be more widely appreciated by commuters, with help from the surveys. The mixed train of R211T's debuted on the C line due to restrictions put into place that prevents these cars from being put on certain express corridors served by the A line, due to a lack of safety systems put in place within the gangways in the event of an emergency. The R211T being kept on the C line would mean that there would be less of a risk between stations if something were to happen. Because of these restrictions, this makes the C the only other line to operate the R211 subway car, alongside the A line being the majority holder, and the soul operator of the R211A variant, that being the most common and most abundant variant overall. However this also makes the C the only holder of the R211T cars as well, since there is only 2 sets, and they are only able to operate on the C, which also prevents them from operating 24/7 service. Both R211T sets were debuted with their special door light and FIND systems activated, giving C riders the luxury of improved station and arrival information for the entire line, the same as some select R211A sets on the A with it activated. As of now, there are 2 variants of the R211 currently active in the subway, with the only variant pending a debut run being the R211S in Staten Island, set to replace all remaining SIR R44's. Technically, the R211T is the first variant to be fully put into service, being that there are only 2 sets, and both have been placed into service already. #mtasubway

Don’t know, if you’re talking about out the R211S, it’s currently delayed because of issues with it operating on the SIR iirc.
