⁴ᴷ MTA NYCT Manhattan Buses: On Board 2023 New Flyer XE40 NG 4966 on the M55 (1/22/24)

The second 2023 New Flyer XE40 Next Generation that had been delivered for training under Michael J. Quill Depot, 4966, entered service some time after 4965 had, acting as a second pilot to 4965, in order to add another bus onto the streets, had one not been able to operate, or incase one would be needed for training elsewhere. After this unit had entered service, it made similar operating patterns to 4965 before they would been able to roam free throughout any route that MJQ sees fit for that bus on that day, depending on the assignment. Most commonly during both 4965 and 4966's early operating periods, the M55 in particular had been chosen due to its length, covered area, and terminating areas, with ease of either returning to the depot, layover, or transfer to a different route depending on the circumstances. Prior to any deliveries after the debut of 4966, the unit was the only bus out of the 2 XE40 NG's to be equipped with the current introduced standards that are found on any of the newest fleet, such as large rear flip doors, as the strongest and most key feature. #mtabus

The rear doors remind me of the ones on older LFS and LFSAs. Plus the “Touch yellow handle to open doors” brings me back to when they started running on the B44 Limited/SBS.

Grand Avenue as of right now has 4 of them all currently training, actively. So they're actively coming in, now.
