  • The 2021 New Flyer XE40 NG fleet built for CTtransit to run throughout the state of Connecticut was one of the first fleets of XE40 NG's ever built, and are also CTtransit's newest fleet of standard transit buses. This fleet of battery-electric Xcelsiors however was also a big hurtle for New Flyer as a manufacturer, as on July 23rd 2022, 2102 from this fleet had caught fire unexpectedly, which damaged the bus far beyond repair, and thus caused the entire fleet to be recalled and sidelined from service, because of the dangers they might've posed, especially without the proper protections, warnings and proofing systems in place to prevent another loss like that from happening. This caused New Flyer Industries to act, and recall any XE40's that were pending delivery, putting a mandate in place to add fire warning systems into every single one of the newer battery-electric EV's that were being built, post 2102's irreparable fire. Systems like the New York MTA, Long Island Nassau County NICE, and the state of New Jersey's NJT might've been a few stand out systems in the surrounding northeastern area that were affected, while receiving their active allotment of XE40 NG buses. Since then, however, all of CTtransit's 2021 XE40 NG's have had systems installed to allow the operator to know if there is a fire, and potentially extra precaution protective systems to the batteries incase there was anything that was making them prone to fire. All buses with the exception of 2102 are back in service, with them all serving service in all 3 regions of CTtransit once again. #CTTransit
