The BEST players are BENDERS!! (You should be too)
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
One of the biggest differentiators between ELITE skaters and everyone else is their ability to use their ankles… Specifically, their ability to bend their ankles! As it stands being “an ankle bender” has a negative connotation in hockey. However, being able to bend your ankles is a key factor in becoming an elite skater. The best players leverage and use their ability to bend their ankles as an...

When it comes to footwork in hockey, there is one basic rule that every player must abide by! In this video you will learn this golden rule, as demonstrated by McDavid's highlight reel goal vs The New York Rangers (Nov 6th, 2021) along with why it's so crucial! PS: This is NOT just McDavid's rule but general rule for all elite hockey players!! (McDavid's rule sounded better 😉) What is the rule?...

Great breakdown of how to accomplish this! Gonna try this with my son! Thank you for the video!
This is my exact imbalance! Granted, I don't play anything close to a high level of hockey but I have such a hard time turning to the right. I keep trying but it feels so unnatural!

You guys consistently pretend to be physics and kinesiology experts and fail to take into account different skating styles and body types

Nice job bud!! Fluidity and efficiency!
Thx
Wow these are all awful tips
This is a cross over... why do people love to over complicate or make up some crap to sound smart. You always push with both feet during a crossover.
1000% great video. Make sure your backhand is on point too! Only need to go just below blocker side TBH. Usually toe anchor on the forehand, Heel anchor on the backhand side as Jason pointed out. Noticed this myself as well.
Stutter to lateral cross is pure evil

Have you seen Kucherovs mechanic stack remake? The old one was the one against Eklblad, that you broke down. He has now done a similar thing against the Flyers. You should check it out :)
good video idea
I know this video isn't new, but I just found it today Great work in identifying and isolating the gaps/faults in your skating technique. I'm 52 years old and identifying similar things, so I appreciate that you're doing it, filming it, and especially showing slow-motion footage and providing commentary on it. Greatly appreciate it and you've earned a sub!
Nice Wings breezers!
What is the proper sequence of skill videos that you have after watching this one which defined the problem? The long list on youtube does not appear to have any particular order. In other words, which one do I watch next?
He’s contacting the ice with his entire blade rocker when accelerating, he’s going heel to toe on his crossovers and cuts to maximize power, and, something a surprising amount of people overlook, yes, he’s kinda planting while shifting weight on the load up, but his actual shot release is done with his feet moving, making it more deceptive.
Crossovers. If you try to cross-under you’ll be ass over teakettle
This is a fantastic breakdown of how it works! This is something I wish someone would have had the technical maturity/mastery to point out to me thirty years ago when I was learning to play hockey, it would have made things so much easier for me. It took me a number of years to figure out that the power stroke in the "crossover" comes from the inner leg and the mechanic is much better and aptly described as a crossUNDER than a crossover. Excellent content, keep up the good work!
The music really made my strong independent woman come out
Well, the "old man" is back again! An ankle collapse to the inside is inherently more stable because of the strong ligament and tendon structures. Eversion sprains are pretty rare. However, the outside ankle is far more unstable. The ligaments do not support that side nearly as well. The other factor of instability is the range of motion of the subtalar joint on the lateral (outside). It inverts almost twice as far as the inside. The bottom line of fear for me is the ankle over-inverting causing a severe sprain or a fracture. I realize proper weight distribution of the outside edge can stabilize this motion, but learning that position is when the greatest chance of injury can occur. If the boot is tighten excessively, then the price paid is a loss of ankle dorsiflexion needed for all kinds of necessary skills! Any suggestions (or more videos!) will be greatly appreciated. SORRY IF MY EXTENDED COMMENTS ARE A NUISANCE!!!
OK. I'm old (very, 72!!!) . But I'm still pretty flexible. Inside edges are almost always easier because of pronation, center of mass stability between the legs (the "pyramid" effect) and , most of the time, a general tendency to internally (medially) rotate the hip. My feeling is that if any of the techniques for controlling the outside edge are going to work, the biomechanical irregularities, if substantial, must be addressed first. My particular difficulty is bring the inside leg close to the outside leg from the corkscrew position is such a way to position the inside leg properly to engage a STABLE outside edge. I'm experimenting a way to add an adjustable modification to a hockey skate to compensate for an abnormally pronated foot. The hip position problem, if present, MAY correct itself as well. (Remember the "LMX" skate that never took off?!). Anyway, if there is a particular technique that I may be missing from studying your videos, it will be greatly appreciated. But you have done an extremely well-done technical academic analyses of the top professional players skills. PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR WORK!! Any THANKS!!
Speed skating 👍👍👍
This is THE video on this move. The detail about rolling over to the outside edge on the front foot is everything.
What do you put on the bottom of that green biscuit?
It’s just some hockey tape so I could distinguish which side I use to stickhandle outside and which one I use on the clean floor. No performance reason
not sure you're still looking @ comments Spencer, but I would appreciate your thoughts on the difference between hip drop and soft drag? just realized I asked a year ago (see below for reference) and still in the dark on what should be used when lol Thanks mate!
Hey, sorry just happened to check the YT and saw your comment, good to hear from you! The difference is the dragging of the inside edge toe. The mechanics of the soft hip and soft drag are largely the same besides the soft drag you drag the non-weight bearing toe and the soft hip you don't. In terms of use, they are almost interchangeable so go based on what feels more natural in the moment. Some slight nuances to consider, is that by dragging the toe on the soft drag you will decelerate a bit which may allow you to turn/cut sharper or slow down. You may also want to consider what mechanic will come next. For example, if you are going to crossunder or shuffle out, then you might want to soft hip as it will be easier to land on the outside edge. In real time go with what feels right. You can't really go wrong. Hope that helps!
Jason , change the music it sucks dude
2, 3, 1
why the lame soundtrack?
good!!!
This guys pretty dumb
Is there any method or tips you’d have as to how you program your on ice practices?
Thank you for this video. I grew up learning how to skate in the early 90s and I would say during that time period the term "crossover" is more aligned because that's what was being taught especially when practicing skating around the circles. You would pick your leg up and over exaggerate the cross-over of the leg. Now, when I skate circles during warm-ups, I feel how I now perform more of a cross under motion and would agree with that terminology. I've been watching videos for hours trying to see the difference, and I don't. McDavid is just super super strong on his outside edges, and I feel that is what truly sets him apart. Who sharpens his skates deserves a raise.
Hows McDiver working out for ya? He the only one in NHL that does this? 😂
He's also the only one in the NHL getting the Conn Smythe on a losing team... his playstyle and mechanics are clearly the best and you gotta be stupid to think otherwise (imo only Mackinnon is on a similar level in terms of hockey mechanics)
How to bust your ass.
Bro it's crossover not cross under💀💀💀
👍👍
👍👍
No offense, but I believe you are confused between various different things. Lean does not make you go fast, rather lean is required to go fast around a curve, simply leaning won't do anything - this is why you will fall if you simply lean - skater has to actively turn to not fall when leaning or keep crossing over. A skater will need to generate centripetal force to go in a curved path, that force does not come from the lean, it actually is generated by legs doing to crossover as skater keeps stepping inward ( and they actually will go tangentially if they stop doing crossover or if they stop actively trying to turn with the ankles ). The reason lean is needed is so that centrifugal force won't topple over the skater. The net torque in the frame of reference of the skater should be 0. assuming the lean to be theta with the vertical ( so 0 degree means 0 lean ) mv^2/r cos ( theta ) = mg sin ( theta ) tan ( theta ) = v^2/2rg so the faster you go the more you need to lean otherwise you will be thrown out of the circle ( which will icrease r and reduce the theta ) or you will simply topple over. The net force must also be balanced ( assuming 0 acceleration ), this is very complicated equation and simply saying centrifugal force = friction force would be incorrect as edges dig into the ice, and there are other force involved.
Radim Vrbata! This was his signature move. He even did the plus one, when Luongo figured out he would go for the backhand. Great vid, as always, thank you! ruclips.net/video/bK4PmhF5_XU/видео.html
