Another great breakdown! There seems to be a lot of very polarizing opinions on the hand position in the turn, including references to how one is supposedly vastly superior to another (ie crossing hands is a safety issue if checked, having hands @ the hips allows keeping the puck at play immediately upon exiting the turn etc) when like most things in life (and definitely in hockey) it’s not black and white but a personal situational preference!

hey. thanks so much for this super useful clip. When I tried to execute cut backs (and tight turns), always wondered why sometimes good sometimes bad. I got an idea from this video. now all executions are much stable than before. thanks so much! It ok to learn something from ex-hockey pro coaches. But, your explanation is more logical, easy to understand and make sense to me. I prefer to use position 1 when i cutback. it gains more vision to an ice.

Thank you, I'm glad I could help! Top hand positioning is very often overlooked but makes a big impact on your skating mechanics. Where your hand is in space will affect your posture, balance and much more! A slight change of hand positioning can make a big difference in your ability to perform a mechanic, that's why it's the first posture cue we look at, at Train 2.0. If you haven't seen my pillar short on the "Crosby crevice" check it out!

@@TheDownhillSkater already i'm a subscriber and always get some good help from your videos. Crosby crevice is good one as well because when i started ice hockey i was told that top hand away from body which was really old school. Sometimes when i skate, my top hand on my waist. I thought i was long for a long time until i saw your Crossby crevice video. Someone like me - leaning something by myself - will get help a lot from your video. I would recommend your video to all ice hockey players.
