I know it has been like over a year since you posted this, but congratulations! I love your podcasts very much!
Great job once more! I love the picture of Adam you used!!
@@AnneliseChristensen-h3k Thank you!
Aww!! So cute!
Thank you for another great podcast! I loved what you said about "men can be gentle and strong." My father is that way, and has always been that way towards my mother, my siblings, and myself. I respect him and love him because he has those qualities you mentioned, and because he is a wonderful, Christian man. Tusen takk!!
@@AnneliseChristensen-h3k He sounds wonderful. I'm so happy you grew up around that environment.
Regina was very nice, but I still like Ruth the best. Thank you!
I agree; Ruth was the best and only woman for Adam Cartwright. I love those two together! Så vakker, ja?! Thank you once again for your time!
Thank you for another great talk about my favorite Cartwright and actor (whom I am distantly related to!!). I personally wish they would have brought Ruth Halversen back, have she and Adam marry, and have a family. I firmly believe Ruth was the only woman Adam ever truly loved. I don't know if you ever realized it, but Ruth is the only woman that Adam has ever said, "I love you" to. I am working on a seven book series about them actually. Maybe someday, I publish them, and then you can read them, and tell me what you think. Thanks again.
@AnneliseChristensen-h3k A million times yes! And that's awesome that you can say he's in your family! I truly believe Ruth loved him more than any of the others. Regina loved him, but when he did what he felt he had to do, that love became conditional in a way. Ruth was willing to give her life for him. He deserved that. They all did. When he was letting Laura go, he told her he loved her, but it didn't feel like it was anywhere near what he felt for Ruth. I could talk about this all day, but I better save something for when I cover the episode. 😄 I would love to read your work!
Thanks for replying! I could talk about Adam and Ruth all day too!
I agree with all the comments made regarding this episode. Adam in particular should have married, maybe to Ruth or Regina. There was great chemistry with both of those women. Also they clearly needed a new generation of Cartwrights! That was one of the reasons for bringing Jaimie into the show. But I never understood the storyline. Why didn’t they dye his hair black and introduce him as Adam’s son. Perhaps Adam sent him to the Ponderosa to learn the family business. I think that would have been more believable
I like listening to your talks. They give me something to really think about, and I almost always agree what you say about Adam. He's been my favorite character since the time I started watching Bonanza, and I love that you are trying to help others see his person better. Thank you for your time.
@@AnneliseChristensen-h3k Well, this comment made my night! Thank you so much!!

@@nancy1685 Thank you so much! I'm glad because I had fun with this!
I thought you were talking about THE blue dress. I think we first see it in "the mill"
@@אריאלוהדספרציק Joyce survived in the end of that one, but I did mention it.
I thought the blue dress curse is only about the same blue dress that women wear in many episodes. If a character wears this particular one you know there will be drama / she dies. It was a kind of joke because the same dress was used so often and of course the women on Bonanza mostly died.
It’s fun to speculate that those in charge of wardrobe had a little fun with the blue dress. Great episode. Oh yes…I thought Joe’s love interest, Morvath, wore the blue dress best.
Morvath wore two of the most-often-seen blue dresses and the yellow one, too. She wore the light blue one pictured with the podcast and the most-seen brighter blue one at the end of the episode as she leaves town. And I agree that she wore them well.
@@kimmoore8266 that would be cool if they knew!
@@JoyceEaster-p8o ❤
I have never heard of this theory before but now that I do, I'm gonna be thinking about it when I watch these episodes again, lol. This was a very well thought out video though. And I love blue too! Now..not so much. Lol, jk, I still love it. 😜😂💙
@@melissarowe1218 I wish I could track down who originally coined it! It was someone on Bonanza World Forums. I kinda love that some people like you have never heard of it!
Those poor women had no choice but to wear blue. The Bonanza wardrobe department was very... frugal. One of those blue dresses shows up in at least 16 episodes, sometimes worn by party guests in the background, but Marie wore it as did Michelle in "The Dowry" and "Morvath in "The War Comes to Washoe." Another, lighter blue one shows up at least 10 times as does the yellow eyelet one. Too much time on my hands? I have an excuse; it was during lockdown & I had all the "Bonanza " DVDs that were available at the time so I tracked several of the dresses (Marie & Elizabeth both wore the same red dress!) But I wasn't following the curse, just trying not to go nuts from boredom...oh! Maybe that didn't work after all.
@@JoyceEaster-p8o That's neat that you took such an interest without even knowing about the curse! Thanks for the insight!
Wow! I never noticed the blue dress curse before. TVLand just started Bonanza over again so I’ll have to pay attention 😉 Love your podcasts!
@@teresamadan7978 I first discovered it on the Bonanza World Forums, myself! Enjoy your rewatch!
Adam is all man. Joe is a boy. Adam understood the assignment. Joe didn't have a clue.

I watched this episode and I felt that Jack Lord's role was overacted. I'm a fan of Susan Oliver and she played the role well. The episode felt "off" in a way and I now why now. Thanks Barb for the video.
I felt the same way. I'm actually not Barb though. I believe you're thinking of the other Bonanza channel, Barbo, who is great. Thanks so much for watching! ❤
I believe you hit all the right notes in this one. Yes, that last scene in The Crucible is one of my all time favourite Adam/Ben scenes too. I have trouble watching the actual episode (too much emotional pain on Adam’s part), but I routinely watch the last few minutes. Another great father/son moment between Ben and Adam is The Pressure when Ben talks to Adam about Adam’s relationship with Laura. It starts out rough…Adam’s sarcasm…but Ben persists and ultimately Adam tells him he was right. I agree with you 100% that Lorne Greene’s portrayal helps to make this show what it is…still beloved by millions over fifty years later. Good job! ❤
I liked your podcast. In my opinion it was an average episode. In holland we would say no pepper no salt. Meaning nothing special. I do not like the beginning. All are in a chaotic running/riding without explanation. It was certainly not the strongest episode.
I might borrow that saying now.😅 Thanks for watching!
One of my favorite bits is right after Joe and Adam have buried the first guy who got killed and the posse draws a gun on the Cartwright boys. It's subtle but you see Adam turn his head and check where Joe is before he stands up, and when he stands up, he is between Joe and the other man's gun. I actually calculated it at one point and there's at least 6 years between Adam and Hoss, and 11-13 years between Adam and Joe. Another interesting fact is that the normal age for going to college was 15-16 years old, sometimes as early as 14. I think that Adam delayed going to college though, because that would've been right around the same time that Marie died. So I think Adam went to college at 16-17. Just some interesting things I figured out! 😃
@@TonyKristinEngle That is such a keen observation that I completely missed! Thank you so much for pointing it out!
"Digs herself a hole deep enough to live a nice hobbit life..." Love it! Pardon me as I steal your quote! It's hilarious! Oh, so many lovely references in this podcast.
@@TonyKristinEngle 😆 Go for it with my blessing. Thank you so much.
I do agree that Ben uses different love languages with each boy, but his main one is physical touch. While yes, he hugs/embraces Joe the most, the love language of physical touch goes beyond just hugs and embraces. It's the shoulder slaps, the pats on the back, the shoulder squeezes etc. all of which Ben does frequently with each of his sons, and they do with each other. So, Ben may not embrace the older two as much, but he is always reaching out to touch them, and all of the boys are very accepting of this affection.

Some of the best shots of Adam …and a great song! Love it! ❤
Que bello eres mi Adam hombre hermoso ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A very interesting video! Thanks a lot for your insights. Maybe the similarities also have something to do with the fact that the majority of stories rely on the four character-archetypes: choleric (Ben), sanguine (Joe), phlegmatic (Hoss) and melancholic (Adam). With those four "temperaments" the most interesting storylines can be created and they also complement each other. I recently watched the first Jurassic Park film again and realized after a while that Jeff Goldblum's character Ian Malcolm is a 90's version of Adam - a highly intelligent smart-ass, charming, full of sarcasm, always cool and calm and fully dressed in black 😁
And you know by now that I am another obsessed Bonanza fan! ❤️🤠
This film came out 40 years ago!! Its one of my favs!! I read the book in Jr High and as I said, loced the film. As I was watching the film, it seemed a little bit more familiar; now I know why!
