    Fun episode! The Wooing of Abigail Jones is one of my top five favourite Bonanza episodes. That said, I never clued into the issue of Hank’s tendency to violence when he didn’t get what he wanted. This is the early 1960’s and issues like this were seldom discussed…pre Women’s Liberation. Regardless, I watch this episode when I want to laugh, and that won’t change. As to whether I think Adam, and then Joe and Adam, did the right thing by interfering in Hoss’ love life. I think they did. They love their brother and they know he’s an innocent when it comes to affairs of the heart. Like someone else commented here…I love that final scene in She Walks in Beauty when Adam and Hoss walk away from the stagecoach and Hoss puts his arm around Adam. All’s well between the brothers.

    I think Joe and Adam fans go at it the most because Joe and Adam go at it the most 😂 I've been an Adam Gal since I was 15 but I've always had a soft spot for Joe. I'd like to think I see him similarly to Adam. He can be an annoying brat at times but deep down I love him (and Adam can be a little too stuck up and smart at times but I will always love him lol) I have a twelve year age gap with my youngest sibling and it is so weird going home and seeing him in double digits. I thibk thats one if the reasons I've always related to Adsm. It's hard to be raised in a different, harsher, upbringing and then see your youngest sibling take for granted the stuff you helped work for. I do think Joe had some of the most overall character growth in the show which is so awesome to watch! There are so many good brother moments but my favorite may be in The Honor of Cochise when Joe takes off at a sprint as soon as he hears the gunshot and carries Adam back to safety 💜

    All these episodes to me show love of family (as most Bonanza episodes). In She Walks in Beauty, my favorite parts of the love between Adam and Hoss are ironically during the fight. The fact that Adam didn’t fight back showed me just how much he loved and respected Hoss. My other favorite part was at the end when Adam and Hoss met up in town and Hoss said let’s go home and put his arm around Adam’s shoulder. ❤ As I write this I realize I pretty much went off topic of the podcast but I guess I just wanted to mention the Cartwright family love.

    From this list, I would have to go with the Wooing of Abigail Jones being my favorite. It's such a funny episode. And I absolutely love Adam singing Early One Morning. It's on the Ponderosa Party Time album and I can't help but think of that scene with Abigail when I listen to it. 🤣🤣 For She Walks in Beauty which I also loved, I don't think Adam was wrong necessarily, it's almost similar to The Courtship in a way. Hoss had to learn the hard way. Although I hate when his heart gets broken because his is a lot bigger than most so it makes it that much harder to watch. 🥺😭 I love The Magnificent Adah simply for that one scene with Hoss fighting John. Very powerful scene and one of the reasons why I love the Cartwrights. I haven't seen The Dark Gate in a while but I remember I loved that part at the end, Adam's conversation with Hoss and that he was his friend again in those last moments. 🥺 Heritage of Anger is an underrated episode in my opinion as is season 14 as a whole. Great topic and video, I'm sure there are many more matchmaker episodes but I can't place them at the moment, lol. 🤔

    To tell the truth, I never really minded Jamie. Of course, I don't watch any episodes after season six, except on those rare occasions when my sister begs me to. (Ben is her favorite character) But still, I guess I just love the fact that Ben adopts Jamie and gives the poor boy the home he always needed. Yeah, I don't like the fact that they tried to forget Adam in the series, but I still don't think Jamie is at fault. In fact, in my Adam and Ruth series, I have gone ahead and added Jamie in. Adam at first is surprised when Ben tells him he has another brother, but he does accept it, and with a good attitude. I personally don't like the idea of having Jamie being Adam's son; I just feel that it would have caused more pain to Adam's fans to have a constant reminder of the man they love so much. And I also could see Adam just going off to sea and sending his motherless child to the Ponderosa. But, I don't mean any offense at all! I loved this podcast, and I liked to hear your point of view on Jamie Hunter! Thank you!

  • @Bonanzagirl1995
    @Bonanzagirl1995 2 месяца назад

    Jamie was okay to me, but not my favorite. I enjoyed "The Bucket Dog" and "The Initiation" episodes. I had always thought of Jamie's attitude/behavior as part of his background: he never had a stable home with all the traveling he did with his father, he watched his father die, and he went to live with a family he had just met. Then he had to get used to a new home life with different rules, not to mention a new town and school where everyone knew he was Ben's adopted son. It's not an excuse for some of his behavior, of course, but it does put some perspective on how different Jamie's childhood must have been compared to the Cartwright's. I've also read that Jamie was brought in to appeal for younger viewers. I started watching Bonanza with my grandparents when I was about eight or so and was thoroughly entertained with the four main Cartwrights. They would explain some storylines that I didn't quite get, but otherwise I enjoyed the show even then. I was always curious as to why the writers of the show thought a younger character would bring in more viewers; I'm sure there was plenty of younger viewers enjoying the show then as there are now.

    • @Bonanzababe
      @Bonanzababe 2 месяца назад

      @Bonanzagirl1995 I think those reasons you mentioned are why I've softened to him in recent years. His situation was rough. They never mention it, but after all that, he then loses Hoss who had been his brother. I started watching when I was ten and didn't see any of the post-Adam episodes for a few years. I was perfectly happy with and am still the most happy with the four of them, but I appreciate those later episodes more now. Thanks so much for this detailed comment!

    I also stayed until the end 😊. I didn't like the character, Jamie. As you said, he grated on me. I don't blame Mitch. The writers were the ones who developed the character. As hypothesized, if a new character (not quite as whiny) were introduced as Adam’s son, I believe he would have been more readily accepted. Fans would have watched to see if he had any of Adam's characteristics. Oh, well. Looking forward to 2025. Happy holidays.

    • @Bonanzababe
      @Bonanzababe 2 месяца назад

      @sharonenos1370 Thank you so much!! Absolutely, the writers made all the decisions. I know Pernell tried giving notes on Adam and on episode scripts sometimes, but I doubt Mitch being so young ever felt comfortable doing that. A lot of teenage characters are a bit aggravating. You're right, seeing Adam's son starting to remind us of his Father would have been beautiful. Happy Holidays to you too!

    Oh boy. I'm probably gonna be in the minority here when I say I liked Jamie. Do I understand fans complaints? Absolutely! But as for me I had no problems with Jamie, I didn't mind his addition to the show. Was he necessary? Ehh, not really, but I guess they just wanted to try and bring in younger viewers like you mentioned. Yes, Jamie could be a brat, but he also had his good moments and could be very sweet, especially in The Bucket Dog episode with April the Irish Setter, I adore that episode. I actually prefer older Jamie in season 14. Mitch Vogel did a good job with what he was given and of course it's in no way his fault, he was only playing a part. He's a nice guy too I heard. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That being said though I will say of all the added characters, Candy was the only one that really made sense, at least to me. Maybe I just love Candy so I'm using that excuse, I don't know, lol. 😜😆 I do find the concept of Adam's son very intriguing and I wish they would have gone that route instead. In fact the Cartwright's not being able to marry and have kids of their own is my biggest complaint with the show overall. It also would have still honored Pernell's wishes. 🤔 Yeah, there's a million different things they could have done but it is what it is. But yeah I didn't mind Jamie and I do find it sad that fans have such a hatred towards him. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts though as always and I did agree with a lot of your points. ❤️ I look forward to your Griff video because he is a character that has been growing on me a lot lately since I recently bought the season 14 DVD set. 😁

I think it's easy to forget that he was just a kid who was orphaned at a young age. I do think he wouldn't be quite as disliked if he'd not been adopted by Ben. Mitch seems to be a sweetheart who still stays involved with the Fandom all these years later which is awesome of him. As for your thoughts on Candy, I completely agree. I also watched all the way through. To me it always seemed like a crazy story line for Ben to adopt Jaimie. I,like you, felt he should have been introduced as Adam’s son. It didn’t even have to be a contentious situation. Maybe Adam wanted his son to have a stronger connection to the ponderosa. Or maybe Adam was back at sea and his wife had passed and Adam felt it was the best place for his son. I agree with you that it would have been great for Ben to be be a grandfather and a new generation of Cartwrights were roaming the ponderosa! I agree with you it wasn’t Mitch’s fault that Jaimie didn’t connect it was the storyline that didn’t work. I look forward to your next episode in 2025!

      @nancy1685 Thank you so much!! I have to wonder if the writers felt they messed up because season 14 has the intro of Griff and much less Jamie.

    I don't know what you think, but I feel that Adam kissed Adah to see how easily she would fall for another man. I think he may have been worried that she'd run off with another man after she and Ben were married. He may have even been wondering if she was trying to get to him or his brothers through their father. But, who knows?

      That's an interesting take and reminds me of "She Walks In Beauty" where he lets Regan think she can manipulate him through kissing him to see if she will.

    This was a good commentary! I always wondered about that photo of Marie; why in the world was this random man carrying around a picture of Ben Cartwright's third wife? Hmmmm... I like the JAM at the end of this episode; really, I love any brotherly moment between Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe. They're so loyal to each other, even if they do have their disagreements. Thanks again!

      @@AnneliseChristensen-h3k Thank you for the comment! This one wasn't getting much attention. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that about the picture! And the end was beautiful!

    Joe Gals and Adam Gals can definitely get crazy! As an Adam Gal, I find myself getting frustrated at Joe more often than not, but that’s probably because I’m an oldest child and can vibe more with Adam than with Baby Brother. 😂 Picking a favorite Adam&Joe moment is hard! But I’d have to say that moment in “Hoss and the Leprechauns,” when Joe brings Ben and Adam to see the leprechauns Hoss has found… only to find all the little men have disappeared. Joe tries to convince Ben that he saw one of them, but after a glaring look from Pa, he turns to Adam and says, “I saw one of them…” And Adam, being the gracious older brother that he is, nods and smiles, trying to pacify Joe. That one always stuck out to me because it’s just a small, subtle hint to their deeper relationship and I love it.❤
