I will always mourn the loss of Adam after season six, and not just because I’m a huge fan of PR…after all, Little Joe was my very first hearthrob. Each Cartwright played a role and that dynamic was thrown off with the departure of big brother, Adam. But Hoss was the heart and soul of the show and Bonanza was never going to survive after his untimely death. Bonanza had run its course and ML went on to create two more beloved TV characters. Good analysis.
Thank you for your insightful comments as always. I think you're right. I'm sure that is part of what took me so long to enjoy those last couple of seasons.
First off, I just have to say this was a very well done analysis. It gave me the realization that Joe did go through the most changes of all the characters. As for which character arc of his that I liked better, I'm somewhat in between. I loved his antics with Hoss when he was young but I also loved seeing mature Joe come into his own. I think it's a testament to Michael Landon's brilliance as an actor the fact that I loved his entire character arc from younger brother to older brother. And I liked Jamie. I know he wasn't a popular addition to the show but I thought Mitch Vogel was a great actor. I know he could never replace Joe's position as the youngest but I love the idea of Joe being an older brother to him since Joe never had a younger brother. I agree the show couldn't recover after losing Dan, they tried but it just wasn't the same. Adam's departure didn't bother me all that much since he wasn't my favorite character to begin with, Joe and Hoss were, but I still loved Adam and I agree it lost that spark it had with the three brother dynamite. I loved Candy though! Lol. Great video! 😊❤️
I noticed his hair was noticeably grey in later seasons. I always thought Little Joe was a reference to his height, not his age. And I thought there should have been a Big Joe, so they'd call him Little Joe to distinguish him from the other Joe. I had a male cousin who was called Little Name to distinguish him from his father, who was Big Name.
I don't believe Joe's character would have progressed as big brother to Jaime. If the show had continued, I believe another character would have to have been added. A young man finished with school that had a lot of Hoss's traits and loved the outdoors. Someone Joe could mentor and form a strong bond with that did not have Griff's baggage.
My poor brain understands the evolution of Little Joe Cartwright throughout Bonanza. However my heart doesn't. For my heart Joseph Francis Cartwright always will be the youngest Cartwright, The Ponderosa's baby. My Little Joe. Nothing at all against Jamie, excepting that he wasn't a Cartwright. No matter the changes Joseph Francis Cartwright always and forever was, is and will be LITTLE JOE ♥️
Still love Michael Landon as Little Joe..the casting was perfect in every sense! Thank you David Dortort!!! RIP Mr. Dortort and Mr. Landon (Orowitz).
Absolutely!
I loved him best as the baby brother in the first six seasons. If only Adam hadn’t left. 😢
I agree, Olivia.
That's my favorite time period too
Siempre será el pequeño travieso de la famil8a. Esa etapa es la más querida y recordada,

I agree. Like you I enjoyed Joe's entire character arc :)
Gracias por el video ❤
Bonanza serie excelente ❤
Siempre en mi corazón ❤
Pra sempre no meu coração ❤
Sorry but I have never accepted Jamie as a Cartwright. Ben had 3 sons-Adam, Hoss and Little Joe.
Hold that thought. I have a Jamie video coming up in the new year. ;-)
Spot on . The first six years were the best of the best ❤️

Bonanza was never the same when Adam left no one could replace him.
