- Dan Blocker, best known as Hoss Cartwright from the hit TV series Bonanza was a successful actor and family man. Though his life was cut short at the age of 43 he was well respected and loved by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dan Blocker and his broad smile . Never forget.
I watched Dan Blocker growing up i admired him as a great actor in Bonanza but I watched him in a few of his other movies i truely enjoyed thus fin man. When my son was born in 1979 I named him Hoss I couldn't find a good middle name so he's called strictly Hoss & my son actually likes his name. R.I.P. Mr. Dan Blocker ty for your intertainment over the years.
@@neenyamyers6861 I've also watched Dan Blocker in other western tv. series . He's my favourite.
@@chitswe2831 he had beautiful blue eyes...so clear
Such real smile with love that you could see in his eyes too.
He called me in 1960. He was visiting a friend of my parents and heard I won a trophy for singing at my Jr High. He just called to congratulate me and encourage me to continue. I was 13 and awestruck. So nice, kind, unassuming and not pretentious at all. One phone call I will never forget..
Great story, thank you for sharing! Thanks for watching!

definitely
Definitely 100%
You can see what a good person he was. Miss you 🥰
Loved him and miss him.
I fell in love with him from the first time I saw him on Bonanza. I always imagined him to be similar to the character he portrayed.
May God bless him and his family.
Always loved him on Bonanza. One of my favourite episodes was when he had amnesia and regained his memory at the last minutes of the show. He had a beautiful smile and was always kind. He left us too soon. RIP Dan(Hoss.)
One of my favorite episodes also. ❤️
Mine was when he fell in love with that women that was only interested in the cartwright's money. But there was many more with him I loved.
He was my favorite on Bonanza
Lots of talent on bonanza tv 📺, ,, including lots pretty of woman guest, however hoss was special
How can someone give a thumbs down on Dan Blocker? He was great!
I was just about to ask the same question.
Hopefully it was a mistake
Maybe it was for the presentation itself rather than disliking Dan. I would NOT put a thumbs down for the statement "NOT SO SAD ENDING" but I think it was very sad ending and much too soon and the presenter made a mistake in saying that. Maybe others thought so too!
@@alicephillips3214 Those titles by other channels "LIFE AND SAD ENDING" are often clickbait and misrepresentative of someone's life. Dan had a full life and was a dedicated family man loved by many for his character and for himself. Did his life end too soon? Sure it did, but none of us have all the time we feel we should but we will all die. Is it a sad ending? Let how people think of us in the end not be how we go but how we lived. Dan's living was not sad. For that, I appreciated the creators of this video for not falling prey to our society's sick and warped mind frame of wanting to read about "sad" endings but instead, they reinforced the positive. I suppose it is all in how we choose to perceive life.
Because some people are just downright mean 😏
Loved Dan Blocker's personality. World would be a better place if people would follow his example being kind, pleasant and caring. I find the voice of the reader captivating.😁
Today's actors could learn a lot from Dan's character.🐴🐴💕💕🗽🗽
Agreed. Thanks for watching!
From all the characters the Three brother and the father .
They just don't make 'em like Hoss any more.
Totally agree!
@@tailsfromthenorth5awesomed218 Me too
AMEN TO THAT !!
My husband
I cried when he died. Sweet man.
Me too
Never met the man in person, all I knew of him, I saw on Bonanza. Some men just have a way about them, the way the talk, walk, and smile..... You just knew he was the genuine article. I wish there were more men like him today, the world would be a much better place.
We can honor Dan by being the ones who emulate his good traits.
I wish the same
LOVED watching him!! Mr. Blocker and Michael Landon were my favorites, though I liked them ALL! 🤗💞.
They were great together! Thanks for watching!
Hoss and Hop Sing were my two favorite characters!
They were great! thanks for watching!
He was my all time favorite on Bonanza . I remember I actually cried when he died. He was a good dude. I think the show died when he did.
TRUE
He IS our beloved Hoss!! Always will be...just sayin'.
Nobody else could have done the part! Thank you for watching.
Not how long one lives his life, rather how well, with what Legacy we leave behind.
I was a little boy whose Hero died, my first initiation into the concept, death.
Yep !!!
The mother of Hoss was Swedish. Her brother told Ben and Inger when they had a son to name him Hoss, which means ‘a good man with friendly ways’ in Swedish.
When Hoss was born, they named him Eric Hoss Cartwright. Dan Blocker passed away from a blood clot in the lung after gallbladder surgery at age 43😔. I love all the Cartwrights, but Hoss was my favorite.
RIP Dan Blocker 🍃💜🍃✝️🍃🕊
That's true
Big man with even a bigger heart. Loved him on Bonanza, RIP.
You tell that he was so sensitive and sweet human being is true what he said also be kind to one another but we come through here only one time I see Bonanza everyday and I should see it when I was a kid now I'm 66 and I see it every day that's the way I said hoss rest in peace
Love the show!! Still watch it.
Me too! thanks for watching!
Most will never live a life as fulfilling.
Really like his character, Hoss Cartright, remember him as the sone with a big heart, kindness.....
Hoss did have that! Thank you for watching!
Rest in peace Hoss, Adam, Pa and my dear lil Joe, if love could save you, you all would be still here. Y'all left us a lasting legacy, you'll never be forgotten ❤❤❤
Would you just say just got to my heart because you are so right little Joe Adam and hoss , in the leader of the whole family as I refer to him Papa how I wish we would have people like on TV now!
I laugh just thinking about Hoss & Little Joe with the leprechauns had to be one of the funniest episodes they ever did 🍀
That was a great one, one of my favorites! Thank you for watching!
My favorite episode. ❤️
Yoooo-hooo
Daddy wants you to come home for supper
@@surreygeorge11 Where are you? Joe..over here...LOL
Hoss and little Joe always seem to be having fun They really did like them themselves in real life They used to go and visit Green at his house
As a kid, I was so in love with him. Lolol it's so sad how he passed.
He surely was a gentle man both on screen and off
He was a great actor, loved his role as Hoss Cartwright. Rest in peace.
Hoss was always my favourite Cartwright...and BONANZA was my favourite western!
I still watch the show, I am glad still on the air, I love it, has great values and clean show. I rather watch some the old programs than new ones. One of my favorite shows
That's me! I wash it every morning at least two or three episodes sometimes I get so caught up in them that I wind up seeing five episodes and then when I realize they're no longer around neither them it gets me sad because we live in such a cold world and celebrities are just worse that we got out there along with the politicians so let's enjoy our real program with real people.
👍❤💕
I really enjoyed the show when Hoss dressed as the Easter bunny delivering Easter eggs. Way too many shows to mention that were lighthearted and endearing that centered on "Hoss".♥️💛💓💜
Dan as Dan, and Dan as Hoss, both great men!🤠👍
Always liked Hoss.
I recently read that he moved his family to Switzerland in that last year of his life. I did not know that. May he RIP.
Interesting, thank you for sharing! Thanks for watching!
Yes Blocker moved to Switzerland in protest of the Vietnam war.
He had a good life just too short
That's true, thank you for watching!
Yeah but heaven is forever!!!
Also remember seeing him in an episode of The Rifleman and The Rebel.
Thank you for mentioning Dans girls.
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
I never knew he had girls... nobody ever talks about them. They always mention his boys. "Hoss" was the best!! 🤗♥️
Yes twin girls
HIS PERFORMANCE ON BONANZA, WAS BRILLIANT. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN HE AND MICHAEL LANDON WAS TRULY HEARTFELT. AS WELL AS THE FATHER MR LORNE GREEN. EXCELLENT CASTING. SEEMED TO BE A GENUINELY. NICE GUY.
Why all the yelling?...if you didn’t realize, when you capitalize your letters it is yelling in type language. JFYI.
@@avagillick263 It's also commonly known as a way to express strong feelings in general; besides anger/yelling it can be for excitement, joy or simply because one just greatly feels what they are saying and the latter is how I would read Brenda's comment. Also, there are people like me that sometimes do not realize their cap lock is on and simply do not go back to correct as it really isn't that major of a thing.
I really liked Hoss. He was a sweet man. That died to soon. Thanks for sharing this story with me
His legacy will never die ....and for his life ..he forever will be missed
A much beloved man . Nice to see this
He was not only a great (and underutilized) actor but a great guy.
Grew up watching Bonanza Loved the gentle giant! Thanks for sharing!
Never knew we shared the same birthday... just wow! I loved ole Hoss!
RIP Dan
That was the downfall of bonanzas producers. They try to continue without great man and character Hoss. They never recovered from such a sudden loss. RIP. Dan Carwright. You'll be remembered for your kindness, strong man, great actor and great person as family man. 😢
I was really disappointed they did not say much about him on the show after his death. There was no mourning and only 2 brief mentions. They should did an episode about it in my opinion!! Season 14 was not good at all.
That's true
There's something about Mr. Blocker's face and smile that reflects a kind, sweet and pleasant demeanor...I hope it was an actual fact. However, I enjoyed his performances. Blessings to his family!😊🙏
Wow ! Never knew ! Much respect to you Dan Blocker ! Thank you for your service sir !
I loved this show when I was young! Thank you for all this. It was nice to learn of all this man's accomplishments!🥰
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Many thanks for sharing this information. I have a late uncle born in Dungannon, Northern Ireland around the same year as Dan Blocker. He looked very like Dan, although wasn’t tall, and owned a Mushroom Farm. He earned the nickname of “Hoss” as a result and his Mushroom Farm became known as “The Ponderosa”. It’s so sad that Dan died so tragically and while still relatively young. My uncle made it to 1999.
When I was growing up we lived accross the street from Dan Blocker. Remember him coming home from work in a little red sports car with the top down.
Wow that is cool!!
I loved watching Bananza..and while growing up TV was awesome with watching Bananza everyday after school..loved all the actors and they seemed like family it was that good..I miss all who started in that western..Dan Blocker was awesome along with the other actors on Bananza..truly missed
They don't make tv like they use too! Thank you for watching!
Hoss R.I.E.P He was us My favorite actor my favorite t.v show us the Bonanza
My late mom loved and watched the show for decades. She was a fan! I used to watch it with her!!! Once we went and visited your Lake Tahoe site awhile back!
Thank you so much ❤️ for your service in Korea, Mr. Dan Blocker!
What do you mean not so sad ending? He was only 44 years old. That's sad.
End times - he died of a pulmonary embolism - you clot.
Some live more days in a few years than some do in a life time Rip!Dr. Bryant
@Endtimes are upon us also a smoker smoking f***s up the lungs and that is most likely how he got the pulmonary embolism
He wasn't any larger than some actors that lived much longer....
@@wandaratcliff3985 Smoking and being morbidly obese are 2 factored that CAN lead to severe health issues. It is strange how some suffer, while some don't. Though most of the people I know who are morbidly (There is a reason that adjective is used) obese have sever health issues.
One Of the Best Dan was ..
He put him self into His Hoss character
so Well IT Shined All Over Him...
bet he was the same off screen..
Was Happy to See A Picture Of His
Family like this one.. Thanks Dan

Haus was my favorite Cartwright brother on Bonanza. He has a beautiful family.
En Argentina, en los años 70, Bonanza era un suceso tremendo. Y Dan Blocker, con su Hoss, era la estrella estelar
..
He was the best of bonanza
Finally a site that gives facts and not fantasy. Hoss was my favorite.
Great guy.....I loved him.♥️
Hoss was my favorite character on Bonanza. Loved the episode with the leprechauns and two about Walter, the dog. They were hilarious! Great Episodes! You could always tell that Dan and Michael were very close. S-O nice to watch re-runs just like other Great shows of the past cause there isn't any today that can match these classics! Thank You for this beautiful video of his life and family.
Those are some of my favorite episodes as well! Glad you liked it and thank you for watching!
He was loved and missed and still is! He was irreplaceable!!!!!
He always comes to mind when I think of my father smiling. Dad would always give a little chuckle. He brought out the best in my dad and me. So sad when he died.
Thank you for sharing! Thanks for watching!
Our unforgettable Hoss. You brought much happiness in my life. Thank You! RIP Dear Hoss!
Wow he really was a Good Guy: a Husband, a Father of many, a Patriot & a fine Actor!
He has my favorite actor in Bonanza! I honor him for his service in the military and thank him for his service and sacrifice for our country!
Really liked Dan as Hoss loveing this, thanks
I'm glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
Bonanza was one of my favorite shows way back in the 60's. I remember it being on but not really watching it( b-day 1961). Our,other fave was Gunsmoke. My older brother was big, but not quite 6ft and about #230. He did alot of manual farm labor and was large, and ate alot. We called him Hoss. He was good natured and had a way with kids and animals. He many times talked about Hoss and little Joe. He's been gone a long time now, he was a heavy smoker, and he passed away from lung cancer in 1990 at age 45. I read on wikipedia 'Hoss' passed away May 13, my brother's birthday. Hoss was 44. OooWeeeOoo... coincidence? 😳.
Thank you for sharing! Thanks for watching!
My favorite show!......Dan is my favorite actor
I’m still watching Cartwright , Hoss is the one I like a lot he was so funny nice kindness . Sad he passed away !
Lovely to hear a human and not a robot give over this biography of the most loveable Dan Blocker.
It's ashame that the so many of the photos presented here are grainy and unclear.
I saw an episode not long ago in 1972 where he had supposedly gotten shot and was dying they had to do surgery on the dining room table and he stopped breathing then the doctor was saying he had a blood clot in his leg that could kill him. So freakish because that same year he died on operating table from bloodclot to the lungs.
That is disturbing! Thank you for watching!
Creepy foreshadowing.
We can speak those things that are not as though they were; very disturbing and I just watched that episode, too
Words have more power then most realize.
One of my favorites ❤️
I see what you did there. Good Job!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I appreciate your content, thank you for watching!

I read of Dan's death in a magazine in the early 70's when I was a student teacher. I remember feeling so sad. He was always my favourite in Bonanza and I enjoyed his character in 'Something for a Lonely Man' which also featured Susan Clarke. Currently I am enjoying the re-runs of Bonanza from the early years of the show. Dan lives on!
