Thank you for sharing this video about Dan Blocker. I loved watching him on the show Bonanza. He was my favorite on the show. He passed away after he developed a blood clot in his lungs, after gallbladder surgery. When I grew up I wanted to marry a man like Dan Blocker and John Wayne mixed. I found that type of man. He passed away a couple of months before our wedding from cancer on the brain. And yes, the good die young.
I've be revisiting Bonanza now every evening for about the last 6 months, I LOVE the show, can't live without it! Thankyou for sharing, I always wondered what happened to him. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Bonanza but I can't seem to watch that last season because of knowing Hoss died just before that season and wouldn't be in it. RIP Dan Blocker aka Hoss 🙏🏼
My dad knew Dan as a young teenager in O Donald TX. Blocker 's had a small grocery. My dad and his brothers were amazed how a 12 year old boy could carry a 100 lb sack of potatoes on his shoulders out the store to deposit the sack in their buck-board wagon. My uncle worked weekends with the Blocker grocery. He said Dan was bookish intellect type of person. In fact my uncle told us that he helped Dan learn a little boxing to ward off a few of his bullies because Blocker did not have an aggressive personality. My aunt who attended high school with him said the cowboy image did not fit his soft personalty. Here in South West Texas I know a small business owner who shined shoes in O Donald. Dan would stop by his stand across the street from the Blocker grocery before and after the Hollywood fame. Joe commented that the actor was unchanged by the success: friendly, out going, and left a good tip.
Dan was only 43 although wikipedia would say 44...he wasn't 48. He was 43 and in his 44th year but still had 7 months to go to 44 so yeah he died young. 1928 to 1972 = 44 although at time of death only 5 months past 43.
Clarification on Dan Blocker passing - May 13, 1972, Blocker died in Los Angeles, at age 43, of a pulmonary embolism following gallbladder surgery at Daniel Freeman hospital. A news item provides these specifics: "Blocker went into the hospital for gall bladder surgery, developed a blood clot in his lung, and died". Born: Bobby Dan Davis Blocker; December 10, 1928; De Kalb, Texas, U.S Died: May 13, 1972 (aged 43); Los Angeles, California, U.S Spouse: Dolphia Parker Blocker (m. 1952) Years active: 1955-1972
My uncle was 45. He provided jobs, expensive cars, house to his younger brother, brothers wife, that wife’s brother and they all stole from him. After he died they abandoned his ashes! But before that he changed his will as he knew they wanted only money from him and left them little money! He had no children.
He was 43 yrs at the time of death he had months to go before he reached 44. Depends on the month of birth if he died before he get to it even though the years says 44 he still would have died at 43 he didn't get to 44 he had months to go. 🤷
Yes In covid I'm watching Bonanza almost every day with good values . A good family somewhat seems few and far between today with crazy anti society beliefs.
Thought he was 42 but way too young regardless! One of my favorites and am wondering if the Ponderosa steak house that I went to as a kid was what he was part owners of? Will be looking this up quickly to find out. I just mentioned that steak house to my mom a few weeks back!.
