People often neglect the idea that smoking *Anything* is bad for your lungs, and your body as a whole. Wether it's weed, tobacco, or you're sitting at a campfire inhaling smoke.

This year my mother went from a healthy, bright person to not knowing who I was, and then to her grave in the space of six months. As the dementia took her I watched my dad’s heart break. My weed vape, which i hit the odd evening, was all of a sudden a huge crutch for me. It really helped, it put this thin barrier between me snd the horror and it helped me be useful instead of a sobbing mess.
After the funeral though I decided to quit for a while to get a healthy relationship back with weed. Emotion hit me like a train and I experienced true deep depression for the first time in my life. A cautionary tale that if you mask grief/pain it does not go anywhere. You need to feel and process it or it will grow, and it will come for you.

My Dad and I used to smoke together. He died of lung cancer. I knew full well that I desperately had to stop... It took over 5 years of fighting with myself to finally break the cycle. One of the major things that always pushed me back were the vivid dreams following quitting. Sleeping became like work. Dreams were so real it felt like I hadn't slept at all. I'd always wake up with some new cryptic message to try and decode. Now that I'm past it the initial drawbacks, I feel so much more comfortable in general. Every long term user should quit for at least a few months so they can learn who they are without it. I have a feeling most would refrain from returning to it.

I have a few issues with the stats forward approach to this video, as opposed to a system up method towards understanding. How can you recover from CUD if you don't understand what you were using it for? Cannabis produces cannabinoids as insecticide. Tobacco produces nicotine, but where tobacco hijacks a muscle receptor and leaves the area more sensitive, cannabis soothes the receptors it touches. The actions of both are as a psychological poison, essentially just turning signal indicators good, and resulting in gregariousness that gets insects killed in nature. It really is a fascinating defense, and cannabis has the more effective poison. Recovery from cannabis/tobacco use is often a social exercise, and I wish you luck.

I quit weed a few months ago. I was smoking all day every day for 5-6 years and it eventually started to feel like I was turning my brain to a pile of mush and my tolerance is shot, I can’t enjoy any anymore basically. If I do get a high, it’s short lived in comparison and just isn’t *fun* anymore. It’s a REALLY good idea to stop as soon as you can. I went cold turkey and was relatively okay, tho it felt like my withdrawals lasted months instead of weeks, but that could’ve just been in my head.

the problem with this fact that you're not entirely wrong about is that this only proves that everything can lead to addiction including things that are commonly considered healthy like fresh air, water, being in a healthy relationship, and exercise (especially the last one.. i notice most people who love exercising love it more than i like weed)
at that point the question is: in a vacuum, is addiction itself really a bad thing, or is it the thing you're addicted to that's bad?
ironically enough, the first video i saw from Kurzgesagt tackles this topic, and they were forced to delete the video by their investors (which lead to drama, because those same investors paid the channel to make videos on biased topics, which they later apologized for)
they should probably remake that video, and update it with modern research

I have smoked for 8 years now. At the beginning, everything was sunshine and rainbows until the paranoia, anxiety, panic attacks, and the dull memory began to hit me. My mood and life started changing for the worse until this year, I decided to stop smoking weed once and for all. Honestly, it was the best decision I ever made. Started getting more physically active, social around other people (whereas before I would want to only be stuck in my home), good moods and so much more positive feedback. I needed this honesty. I'm in the 10%; addicted, using it every day, pretty consistently, with high THC levels. And of course, every time I try to quit, those nasty withdrawal symptoms are very real, and I feel awful for 3 or 4 days, and I don't really feel 'great' until I make it more than a week - which is rare when the weed brings me all the good feelings right away. The only upside is that I started in my early 20s, and not my teen years, so the developmental damage should be less damaging - though the long term damage is definitely still there as I know I have no motivation and terrible memory problems. This video is a big motivator to heavily cut down, thank you for the science.

@@iManuel.98 It definitely isn’t easy, I know that feeling. I had unfortunately gotten to a point with weed that it was actually debilitating, couldn’t eat sleep or socialize without it due to anxiety. I knew that I could get past all that after only a few days without it, so I smoked everything I had and refused to buy myself any more. The biggest thing I can recommend is just constantly reminding yourself that you are better without it! Additionally, find activities you can do to fill your day that will distract you; I’m very active in general so I just ramped that up, went on bike rides whenever I could and hit the gym at least once a day. I did my best to find activities I love to do and now do them as often as possible, because when I smoked I was often too lazy to do them. It’s all about convincing yourself that you don’t need it, you’re better without it, and that you will feel so much better in just a matter of days! Also cutting out excess scrolling on apps was big for me, even deleting some social media to keep from mindlessly scrolling like I would when I was high. Watching more movies and TV shows helped me stay off my phone as well, even if it was just another screen to look at.
I know it’s hard, but you can do it!! Don’t give up and remind yourself that you’re so much stronger than weed makes you!

I had only smoked weed a handful of times as a teenager, over a decade later though I began smoking for fun with friends which eventually turned into a daily habit. I've been smoking daily for 2 years now, this video helped me realize that a lot of the personal issues/problems I've been dealing with this year are most likely caused by marijuana.. constantly depressed, anxious, suicidial thoughts, no energy, no creativity, no attention span, and a lack of motivation to go to work.. whenever I've tried taking a break I just can't help myself from not smoking at the end of the day. I was so depressed yesterday.. I couldn't even bring myself to leave the bed. You truly don’t realize what smoking takes from you until you stop. I have always been a pro weed person and still am but it has the ability to strip people of feelings like stress and desire that are need to achieve long term gratification. It clouds many of the difficult thoughts, conversations, goals that make life beautiful.

this video was so necessary! i am a recovering weed addict (even when i say it it sounds funny), i smoked everyday for 2+ years and i’ve been clean for 2 months now. in the beggining weed did wonders in my life, it allowed me moments of socialization and diving deeper into my own feelings, helping me understand myself and heal. it really made me a better person.
but with time, it started to slowly eat away my life. sometimes i would feel ill or anxious and knew weed would worsen the symptons, but i smoked anyway. i felt like a puppet, i couldn’t control my hands from reaching for my stash and rolled a joint without even thinking. then just as the video says, it became a remedy and a culprit for loneliness. i would feel lonely and smoke, but that also made me more anxious to go out and socialize.
also, i would do nothing most of the time. smoking weed and staring into the ceiling was just fine. i would never feel bored. it was some quick and easy dopamine instead of pursuing some actual fun activity, like going out or playing sports, hell even playing video games.
the moment i decided it was enough was when i started missing my master thesis deadlines because i would always prefer smoking to anything. i was going to fail my degree i worked so hard for because of weed! the first few weeks were hard but i am back to normal now.
i do miss it though :( i really hope i am able to enjoy weed in moderation in the future. so my message is: enjoy weed but be careful!!!

I cut back and when I did a lil hit after playing a round of games when I came back inside I asked my lil brother to watch over me with a phone ready to record because no one has ever seen me go through it and I got shakes lucky I didn't have another seizure. I started smoking weed when I was 15. I’m 28 now. In a few short years l’ll have smoked for longer in my life than not. It reminds me of my grandpa who we used to always scold for smoking cigarettes. He would say “it makes me happy” and “I’ve been smoking since I was 16 years old.” I don’t want to be the grandpa that my grandkids will be begging to stop. I still smoke but I’ve definitely reeled it back over the past couple years. The effects have been so obvious - I’m more clear headed, more confident, & more disciplined when I’m sober. I’ve found that my intention going into smoking makes a big difference. When I was younger I would say l’ll never be one of those people who say “I used to smoke weed” or that I grew out of it. But.. as much as I want to deny it, that seems like the path forward if I want to continue to grow and evolve into my best self. Weed helped me escape when I felt trapped in my life, but now that I have autonomy and endless possibilites to explore, it has become an easy way to hide away from that intimidating truth.

This video hit hard - it once again confirmed that which I learnt from my time as a weed addict. At first I did it just for fun, togeter with other people. Then I started doing it alone, to battle the boredom and the feeling of powerlessness and going-nowhere I was experiencing then (I got that feeling because I was following a study I did no longer care for yet people kept pushing me to finish the study while I felt that I made a big mistake and did not want to work in that field of study anymore). Then I quit my study and moved into a squatters commune. We had fun and of course everybody smoked weed there. Eventually I started to feel awkward around others when high - I did not want to share my weed with others that much anymore - it was expensive enough as it was and I did not want to end up with nothing to smoke and unable to buy at the end of the month. So I started isolating myself from the others, locking myself up in my bedroom. In the end I smoked like 15 to 20 joints a day, from the moment I got out of bed until I went back in. I woke up late in the morning and went to bed late in the night. During daytime I just sat at my computer and watched series and cartoons and read news websites all day. I barely went outside or interacted with others anymore. I barely participated with the community projects that the commune was running anymore. I just didn't care anymore, I also started to feel more and more paranoid and awkward around other people. This was due to the guilt I was feeling toward the others in the commune - I wasn't putting in my part of the work anymore, what would they think of me? (They actually understood that I was going through tough times and accepted me as I was then...). I also developed a very negative view of the world around me due to the constant supply of negative news articles that I kept binge-reading and that made me not want to interact with society at all anymore. Due to my ideas of a corrupt, broken world, an evil and cold and non-caring society around me and my own inability to make something out of my life I developed a very deep depression. A depression to which smoking more weed (and coincidentally interacting even less with people and the world around me in real life) was the 'magical cure'. I kept spiralling deeper down into this hell-hole of an emotional state up until the point that I finally quit smoking weed. I've been in that black hole between 2005 and 2010. I was a heavy user from my 19th up to my 23rd. I managed to get out again. It did cost me quite a while (many months, years even) to fully recover from the mess I got myself in to - I especially noticed this on a mental level.

Please think about this with a sense of urgency! Jesus says that all liars, blasphemers, adulterers, murderers, thieves, cowards, homosexuals, and those who worship other gods, will play their part in the lake of fire, burning with fire and brimstone. I do not want any of you guys to go to this place! Please repent of your sins and trust in Jesus Christ to be saved from the day of wrath to come. Cannabis does have addictive properties for sure. It's not quite the same danger as alcohol, opiates, or other hard drugs. However, people can get addicted to it. I'd compare the addiction to nicotine. It starts as fun, and some people can use it sparingly, but others get further hooked and smoke more frequently. When addicted, people can face sluggishness, paranoia, and debilitating anxiety. When withdrawing, people can be anxious, irritable, and get insomnia, which often leads to more cannabis use to mitigate the symptoms. Not to mention, it is intoxicating, and people sometimes choose to drive while high, sometimes actively smoking or eating edibles while driving long distances, which is obviously not great. This video is spot on.

  •  8 дней назад +481

There is a fourth very important factor, perhaps more important than the other three: Stimulus/motivation/reason.
That is, the biopsychosocial and cultural reasons why people smoke.
A person who smokes when they are on the weekend, having fun with friends, taking advantage of a vacation, relaxing at home, or even to get artistic inspiration, has a completely different relationship with marijuana than a person who smokes to distance themselves from the problems they are experiencing, such as risks, violence, financial difficulties, family problems, precariousness of life, etc.
The same goes for alcohol, which can be both a tool for socialization and violence, or even psychedelics, which can cause paranoia or be used to treat post-traumatic stress.
When it comes to drugs, the context and environment make all the difference.

Moderation and medicalisation is key though - I use it just like a prescription medicine. And I use high CBD and low THC strains - which are so much more available too thanks to legal medical use. I have a great doctor who has tried many different strains and types with me to find the best for my pain, and who treats it just like any other medication - with potential side effects that we work hard to minimise. I’m so glad I can use it instead of opiates, which turned me into a zombie! With cannabis I can be out of bed and living my life all day. I really hope this sort of research continues - it’s so important that it’s treated like any other drug that has a lot of potential side effects, because using that information for utilising and creating better medical strains for specific purposes has been very helpful for people like me!

It's sad how what you say can be true, but so many people completely omit the last 1/3 and treat it as if it's some sort of
      Wonder Drug.
Yes it has some effective medicinal qualities, and can help people with physical and mental issues, but it is also addictive, with an odor that lingers and gets carried by the wind easily, and can cause great discomfort even to those not actually smoking it.
It should be moderated and restricted to certain areas, just like smoking - not the "anytime, anywhere, as much as you'd like" solution that so many advocate for.

@@kimeojin1234 It's mostly because the people who are presenting it as this problem-less drug are those who don't have a sufficient understanding of how it works-- it's a cultural change in perception more than anything. We still don't rag people for smoking cigarettes in public though second-hand is objectively worse from tobacco. Similarly, the wide access gives it to everyone, and in this big pendulum swing of acceptance, lack of info and response are rampant. Like the original commenter, I use it medically but with a higher level of understanding of my relationship and function with it. I have chronic pain after breaking my spine, and a history with opiate addiction, so I refuse any high-level painkillers. Weed has its benefits, and its downsides like anything. The "Wonderdrug" pitch is one we've seen from opiates themselves to tobacco being doctor-prescribed, vapes are still up in the air-- we just live in a time where everything changes so fast that a lof of people get lost in the big general shifts and lose the knowledge to navigate and understand it responsibly. That's not even considering that there are always billion dollar industries behind these things with their own rhetoric and capacity to influence common perception.

When I’ve taken breaks before I definitely had the withdrawal symptoms but it was mostly trouble sleeping and very vivid dreams. Not necessarily bad dreams just vivid as hell.

Good luck! Find something else that you can do that brings you joy whenever you get a craving for weed. I've never smoked or consumed it regularly so I may not know what I'm talking about, but I've heard from others that doing a quick workout whenever they got the urge to smoke helped them. It doesn't have to be intense. Just a quick 10 push ups or sit ups or body squats. Write down your 5 to 10 minute workouts on the notes app in your phone so you don't need to think about it. Then when you get the urge, open your phone, select "workout #4" and start it. That way you don't need to think in that critical moment. You just do.

It's scary. My memory is completely shot, and I'm somewhat of a functional adult. I live alone and when I'm not working I spend my time gaming, I rarely go outside other than to work or go to the shop, I have no social circle. Physical withdrawal was horrible and is finally over now, but now I feel all the damage weed has done to my brain which almost hasn't improved at all in the past 23 days. I really really hope my brain can recover almost fully after like 2-5 years. The good thing is that the brain has a very high neuroplasticity until the age of 25 so we both still have the chance to recover as much as possible but we have to act now before it's too late. Iv'e also read exercising, eating very healthy, meditation, socializing and cognitive challenging tasks can improve brain recovery a lot.

I was in a kind of mental "stasis" in those 7 years, in a loop of mental health issues without a real cause (or so I thought). Started smoking heavy because I wanted to escape from life's troubles/emotions. After these 2-3 years I understood that these troubles will only truly dissapear once I face them, smoking only conceals these troubles, doesn't solve them. If anyone's reading, once you control your smoking habits you will control your life much better. It's not easy to just quit, so let's all just try our very best and take the steps needed. love

To add to the video as someone who had a severe addiction to weed and has since quit, people with ADHD need to be even more cautious as we have a colossally higher rate of addiction to substances and weed in particular can really appear to help.
Also, while there can be a loneliness feedback loop as described in this, another danger is being around other addicts. This will reinforce your usage and give you constant access. If you're addicted and want to quit, cutting out or limiting contact with other huge stoners is a necessary place to start, even if it's really hard.

I second everything in this comment. I'm 28, started at about 13 and smoked daily from 21 until last year when I finally managed to stop. The hardest thing about it was having to leave all my friends behind. Even then, I only really did because they moved onto harder stuff that I always swore to stay away from. Despite how hard it was, I'm happier now than I was when I was smoking heavily---I can now recognise how paranoid, apathetic and scared to be myself I was when I smoked, and how much it impacted my ability to function as a responsible member of society. I'm still struggling with the last part, but it is getting easier as the days go by.
If this sounds like you now, please take this as a sign and do everything you can to stop. Find a hobby or two and meet people who do things other than bond over substances. It could be games, an art, music. Anything. For me it was martial arts, and I'd recommend it because not only does it teach you that discipline and self control that can help you finally drag yourself out of that hole you're in, kicking and punching stuff is fun enough that it barely feels like exercise.

Drug interactions are the uncomfortable elephant in the room. On a whole I've seen that people who use cannabis tend to think "it's a plant, it's natural, so it's healthy!" and are largely unaware that marijuana is a stimulant. It makes you sleepy and could make you a total potato for an afternoon, but cannabis also makes your heart work harder than usual. It is prudent not to mix this with other stimulants that put a strain on your heart, namely a lot of ADHD medications like methylphenidate (ritalin). Navigating these conflicts is how we learn to use cannabis with more safety and informed moderation.

I agree but it seems to me they're focusing on all the wrong things to get the message across "it's dangerous because" which let's be honest just makes it more attractive to teenagers. I instead focus on the fact that using too young means once you're an adult you'll get less high and a lower quality of high no matter how much you use. Everyone I've told that has chosen to wait. Might help I'm in a wheelchair with severe pain and use medically to manage my conditions.

In 2018, texas made its version of the farm bill, but they somehow forgot to prohibit sale of products containing thc to minors. now, they're looking at closing "the delta 8 loophole" for everyone, even adults. back when the bill was new, one of its sponsors said something to the effect of "you [retailers] had better not try to be cute about it" (specifically using the word cute), meaning that instead of doing their job, they were going to trust businesses to not attempt to make as much money as possible, with predictable outcomes. my legislators, both state and federal, are idiots. our "compassionate use" program here is hot garbage.

Thank God someone finally is speaking about the physical withdrawal symptoms. I grew for years. I started smoking when I quit heroin in my late twenties. Before that I didn’t smoke much, up until around the age of about 27.
I quit at age 36. I was having severe memory impairment. I still have issues, though they’re better and it’s only been about a month and a half since I quit. I went through severe physical withdrawal. I was smoking a lot, about a 1/4 a day. Take it as you will. I quit heroin, severe psych meds over the years, been on and off benzodiazepines throughout my life so I’m well versed in withdrawal symptoms. I had severe depression, anxiety, constant sweating, chills and cold sweats at night, nightmares, runny nose like I was quitting dope or benzodiazepines. It was ROUGH. Now every one has a different body chemistry, and I’m sure my use patterns were on the higher end, I smoked joints like they were cigs and was always high. But I went through very severe and very REAL withdrawal. Weed does become physically addictive. Anything psychoactive you put into your body on a daily basis will cause some changes as your body adapts to not having it when you quit. But weed withdrawal is very real, and its addictive properties are as well. I get cravings in the same way I did for heroin after I quit that. Not as powerful of a pull, but definitely still powerful and something REAL.

I do use it almost daily and have been since I legally could, but I also have my own strict rules to avoid addiction, and make sure I don't let my surroundings get too out of hand. Multiple times through the year, I'll take a week to detox from any and all drugs. I make sure I have a weekly schedule to enforce cleaning my room and apartment before indulging. I make sure it's late at night a couple hours before going to bed, ensuring I'm functional when I wake up and don't feel the effects at work.

Being the 1 in 10 who got the worst, who 100% had developmental changes, memory, personality, etc, I can personally say I believe this whole video to be almost completely spot on, bang on the money true. Even the last part where scientists aren´t agreeing yet, I can vouch for it being true. I am not, nor will I ever be the person I was or could have been, without the use of "just a flower bro".
I´m still a user today. I rationalize it as recreational, even though I know its an addiction. I only clicked on this video to watch something while I was rolling. What's done is done. It doesn't mean you're screwed for life. The body is quite resilient and can adapt. You recognise you have an addiction. You need a reset and re-establish your relationship with cannabis. Decrease the usage and then stop altogether for a good long stretch, like 2 months. You will need to find joy in doing things without the high. The body is naturally able to do this, but not under the influence. Do productive things, get busy, it'll pass. After that you can use cannabis again but you must employ strict moderation.

This is the way, it improves your experience as they said in the vid. A bit of self control (easier said than done I know) really has not only health benefits but makes it more enjoyable. Im going to try doing bimonthly "fasting" off and on to see how that works. I wonder if it helps your lungs recover from some the damage done from smoking.

Probably the realest cannabis video I have ever viewed. Thank you for not continuing the trend of other channels that only want to show cannabis' positives. As a long time everyday, all day smoker (10+ yrs), I quite literally cannot sleep more than 2 hours without it, I wake up every morning with enough phlegm in my chest to drown a child, and I am extremely socially awkward at times even amongst friends, and I never used to be. Probably the worst part of all though, is that I am hyper-aware that my cannabis use is responsible for the majority of the negatives in my life, and I can't seem to be able to bring myself to stop for more than a couple of days without going insane. I'm preparing a mix while watching this video to keep my brain busy. 😢
Weed addiction is real, dont be afraid to reach out and to try and get help! There are people out there now who can help you get off the stuff. In my country you can actually volunteer yourself into an inpatient ward for 15 days to help you if you're in my shoes and don't have the discipline/willpower to stop.

Quitting weed cold turkey is horrible. I did it once. I only had been using it daily and heavily for about 5 or 6 months at that point though. Can't imagine what it's like after 10 years. Try tapering off is my best tip. To start try smoking every other day. Still gonna be a challenge, but much more manageable.

The part at the end that says you should start to experiment in your 20s reflects what my dad whos a doctor told me as well. Not 100% sure on the source of this but he always claimed that our brains begin to become less plastic and more crystallized at around 25 yrs old, and I took that as my "threshold" year to try drugs like cannabis. I think having my brain be more mature and structured during its development must have helped me. Using cannabis as a teen feels to me like hitting a red-hot sword with the wrong tool out of nowhere instead of waiting until its cooled down.

Today is my 1665th day without weed. That is 4 years, 6 months and 21 days.
I was 14 when I had my first joint, used for like a year occasionally. At 16 I started again, smoked for almost a year straight, big doses.
Stopped after every smoke turned into paralyzing anxiety and I realized I was going psychotic. Many doctors and nurses told me I stopped right at the right time and was able to get back to normal without meds.
I definitely realize now that I did some damage. Dropped out of art school and now at 22 years old I have no degree or work experience.
I do have a lot of physical ailments that play a part in it as well, but those years were important for my education and I missed out. It's been hard to get back on the train so to speak.

I had to stop because of the racing heart it began causing me out of nowhere after I had been smoking well over two decades. At first with the palpating heart episodes, I was able to smoke but had to stay away from all sativa strains, leaning more toward indicas. But after doing that a few years, the anxiety would creep in with even the indicas & I began feeling like I was going to die. So I went from daily use to none. Best decision I ever made. I didn't realize how bad my brain fog was until I stopped.

Great to hear you guys tackling this topic in such a thoroughly researched manner. I’m really glad to see weed becoming more socially accepted and legal, but I also fall into that two out of 10 group that has problems with overuse and addiction. For me, there is no such thing as moderation when it comes to weed and I experienced so many of the negative consequences you talked about in this video. Happy to say I’ve been clean of the stuff for years now, and I feel like my true self again. No longer withdrawn and isolated. The silver lining is that heavy weed use was SO much easier to withdraw from than other addictive substances, at least in my experience, so if you’re a stoner who wants to quit there is lots of hope!

You're happy to see it become more accepted but admit that there are people that are essentially vulnerable to it? Why would making it more accepted be a good thing in any way?
I think alcohol, smoking or really any other indulgent behaviour should be way less socially acceptable too btw before people say "but alcohol is okay too!"

    • @brody338
      @brody338 8 дней назад

@@trashbag5051 In order to come off an addiction you need social structures in place to help you do so. The less accepted a drug is the less likely some is to seek help, this is part of the reason the war on drugs was seen as overkill. I've always thought that weed doesn't result in an addiction, but just a habit. Your body can function without it. You don't develop a dependency. However, you fall in the habit of smoking, and it's a part of your routine.
Pretty much the "I can quit whenever I want to." Yes, you can. But you don't want to.
Still, it is not like quitting alcohol or hard drugs. You can't quit those cold-turkey. Weed you absolutely can. Porn addiction, too. Those two are more or less the same.

I mean, the only way for the next government to roll back legalization is with a CDU-AfD coalition, which is not going to happen.
All other options involve one of the current parties that introduced legalization, and I don't really see them abolishing it if they just legalized it. Well, maybe FDP because they're unreliable af, but chances are they won't be part of the next government.
I suppose technically CDU and AfD could roll back legalization without being in a coalition, but that would not go over well with anyone else, including whoever the CDU *is* in a coalition with.

i get one day of no appettite...and reg jetlag....occasional 'vague' cravings when others drink at holidays and as i dont drink just cuz im not a fan and take antianxiety meds rx'd some days ddepending etc i cant so ill buy a juul for 20bucks and just use that here and ther on the trip more as a placebo but i only did that once, was fine every ytip before that so prob 12 trips int he 18yrs i been smoking DAILY 1G but back then more like 3gs of cali medical 22% still fire and still not worried about the tirp this yr - THOUGH if i was offered cannabis while there i wouldnt say no obv, but the ptsd meds they give me instead fk with my memory and personality way more (inhibition lack from clonazepam/valium) on holiday and i wanna remember these days as my fam gets older, i see my two bro's ONCE during that time from the US/UK all in the UK as im in AUS - my Nans 91 and i dont wanna forget my poss last memories
anway, just thought u might dig hearing 'the other side cuz this was reefer madness on the DL with 'cool animatinos' and stats that are true but also misleading by leaving out the most pro cannabis stats (dont have time/space but just search for credible sciene articles about effectiveness of thc/cannabis and see what the 'top benefits are' kids seizures stopping, elderly woman can talk w no stutter after first time smoking (vice i think) its wild.
it grows natural, no chem process like with alchol, ready to smoke as is, kif the universe/God whatever didnt want us smoking it it wouldnt grow naturally and YES landrace aka all natural strains out in the K2 mountains etc can be STRONGER than whats on offer now as its 20+ % AND resilliant af from evolving outdoors for CENTRURIES AND CENTRURIES

I'm an alcoholic, and I still struggle with it today, but there was a time I was using it heavily almost every day and becoming physically dependent. I turned to THC as a kind of replacement. It put me in a much safer and less destructive state of mind than alcohol, but I was also using it compulsively for the exact same reasons, missed some opportunities, and didn't feel like myself. The strength of it was uniquely uncomfortable... yet an incredibly far cry from alcohol poisoning and withdrawal. I believe it played a role in teaching my lizard brain that, actually, sober is pretty nice. I don't recommend anything I've done, but I kind of saw the light when it comes to how heavily weed is vilified and alcohol is advertised.

I’ve been two months sober after 5 years of heavy daily use. I hate depending on anything exterior to myself and yet my past life experiences led me to only feel healed by cannabis use. I still have no reward system today but I like to push myself and be contempt with knowing I’m not making it worse.
Whenever I tried to quit for a few days my withdrawal would bring out the worst in me and I’d be so awful with my loved ones I didn’t recognize myself anymore.
After my suicide attempt I knew I had to turn my life around and the goal is to be kind to myself without any magic instantaneous tricks.
When I’ll reach that goal maybe I’ll be able to consume moderately but for everyone fighting right now I wish you all the best and don’t give up ! I can assure you you’ll feel much better.

Nowadays, while I do use once a day, I limit it to 5mg THC, and so far it seems with my frequency of use, my tolerance seems to have found an equilibrium.
Here is MY OWN experience of the upsides and downsides:
    Upsides:
    * Calmer approach to stressful situations (lower tendency for aggression)
    * Increased level of creativity
    * Pleasant euphoria when learning new things, and putting them into context
    * Increased empathy
    * Increased focus on tasks
    Downsides:
    * Harder to find words sometimes
    * Increased sense of paranoia (I sometimes feel like people are aware I'm acting differently, and are judging me. I typically don't really care what people think about me when I'm sober, so maybe I'm just not aware that it's happening while not using)
    * Increased impulsiveness (can be good or bad, depending on the situation)
The downsides only seem to manifest while I'm under the effects, which I think is a good thing.

@partyboat123 It’s not in a medical dictionary, lol. Just meet someone who has used for years and years at high levels, and compare them to someone who hasn't. PPS is an observation, more than anything.
Ozzy Osbourne is an example of PPS.
My dad has PPS, total hippy vibes.
All I'm saying is there are long-term effects of heavy extended usage.

this is a powerful video for me. as someone who has used cannabis for years, i've felt a transition where the old me, who I was before I smoked weed, I feel it has slipped away and I may not ever be able to go back. That is something that honestly perpetuates the cycle and enables me to continue feeding my addiction to cannabis. Your perspectives on this have afforded me a new outlook, one where if I work hard enough, I can undo the damage, I can go back. Since I started smoking I have always known cannabis is more addictive than most say, this video (and the rigourous research you and the team have taken upon yourselves!!) has proved it to me. Thank you for always having a new perspective, and THANK YOU for not being afraid to say what we NEED to hear!!!

This video really resonates with me. I started smoking weed at 14, and by 15, I was a daily user. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had become addicted. I tried to quit several times, but I always ended up relapsing. As a kid, I had big dreams of becoming a filmmaker and pursuing other creative passions, but I also struggled with a lot of anxiety and fear. Weed became my escape from the negativity and hardships I was dealing with. It numbed the pain and kept me stuck in my “comfort zone,” even though I was quietly sinking into a deep depression there.
I ended up neglecting my hobbies, interests, friends, and dreams. It even affected my cognitive abilities-I felt like I was becoming dumber, and my memory was shot. Now, at 31, I'm seven months clean, and for the first time in a long time, I truly feel alive. No more depression, less social anxiety, and I’m more in touch with my creative side. I'm actually finishing things now, something I couldn’t do before. Since I stopped smoking, I’m so much happier and excited to work toward my goals and bring my dreams to life!!!! Much love from The Netherlands

1.5 years sober. The worst years of my life were accompanied by chronic weed use. It made me less myself, and I damaged a lot of relationships as a result of how my personality and priorities changed. All the symptoms outlined in this video resonate with me, and I still see it in friends that haven’t stopped smoking (yet🤞). Thank you for opening up the conversation about cannabis addiction!!

I suffered from anxiety and stress induced insomnia most of my life. Doc gave me sleeping pills and a few weeks later I felt myself almost considering just turning my car into oncoming traffic. Luckily I had the insight to consider it's not real it's just the pills. So I stopped. One day a friend recommended weed. I was 26. Game changer. Using it only to sleep helped me get my life together. Got out of working on a bar, reeducated myself, now at 37 I'm a university professor with a great sleep schedule. Couldn't have done it without weed. I have friends who are high basically all day every day. I see the soul and wallet drain in others. But for me, moderate and intentional week use basically saved my life

What can you say to a heavy user to make them believe they are getting too addicted and convince them they've been changing for the worst? My teenage brother is currently smoking weed too heavily and he dropped out of school last year and now sits on our mom's neck and doesn't wanna find a job. I am just lost at what to do :( It now came to a point where he barely has the brain capacity to form coherent sentences and need a long time to process what was said to him...

My husband and I have been daily smokers for 10 years plus and we both started smoking when we were teenagers. The THC amounts are crazy now, 38% in natural bud was the highest I have seen. We recently quit (like 2 weeks ago) because we were experiencing EVERYTHING they talk about here. I have noticed a cognitive decline in myself, attention and memory being the most noticeable. The addiction is very real and the withdrawal was ugly but short. We already see a better path for our lives , the social isolation, depression and anxiety is already getting better. I do not believe legalization would have changed this situation for us as it was always very easy to obtain. If this video resonates with anyone who is feeling addicted to weed and have been considering quitting, rip the band aid off and do it. Thank you for this video.

Props for one of the few marijuana-related articles I've ever seen that appears to be objective. Also, one of the only things that shares my opinion is "If you want to try it, there is a time and place." I would just add "have a trusted friend nearby" as well, for a variety of reasons, including having them help with any possible paranoia, just in case something goes wrong, and because it is frequently really hilarious. When I say "trusted" friend, I mean someone who is not going to screw with you. For me, it was my father.

I've been using cannabis for years, and I’d like to share my experience. In the beginning, it was fun-lots of laughter and enjoyment. But after about two years, that faded, leaving behind a dullness and a creeping sense of depression. The biggest takeaway for me was how much it distorts your perception of reality. You start convincing yourself that your beliefs are true, even when they aren’t, and your view of the world becomes skewed.
Over time, I noticed a significant drop in motivation, which made it harder to pursue my goals. This isn’t the case for everyone, but from my observations, I'd say about 95% of people go through something similar. The good news is that after quitting for a few years, you can recover almost entirely-though there are some things you never fully get back.
Is it worth it? That’s for each person to decide, but from my perspective, if I knew then what I know now, I would’ve made different choices.
But we are all smart after the fact.

I'd suggest they pair that analysis with those that have ADHD and utilize weed. While there will always be downsides and negative effects from any drug use, I think there's an inverse effect at work here that would show different results between the average neurotypical and neurodivergent cannabis consumer.

  • @XxRedCooperxX

Boredom/angst associated with every day life is a difficulty with maintaining abstinence from any problematic substance use, and this video puts it in really clear and (characteristically for this channel) compassionate terms. This is practically the #1 goal of any support program (12 step or otherwise): "how to live life on life's terms" to borrow a phrase with 12 step origins.
I have personally had my memory and personality affected by drug use (not weed primarily), and its really easy to get discouraged by the idea that I permanently damaged myself. It's a daily struggle to make peace with this and, perversely, I'm closest to giving up my sobriety on those days when I'm most acutely aware of how I've changed. It's so frustrating sometimes I'd really like to just not have to think about it. But I wanted to share this in case anyone is scared about the "damage" you might have done to yourself. I don't want to downplay the harm you might be doing (and I think you need to take action to stop that harm), but I want to encourage you not to look at yourself as "damaged." That label doesn't do you any good, and I would argue that its not true in the sense that your intrinsic worth and completeness is still as intact as ever, even with your new memory issues and personality changes.
Do your best to keep living a healthy life and try to accept the new you as someone who deserves to be happy and full of self esteem. You can't focus on "what you've lost," there's absolutely no point in comparing yourself to some version of you that you think "should" be in your place. You are you right now, the only version of you that will ever exist, and you deserve to just live your life free from the problematic substance use that brought you to this point of conflict (whether that is abstinence or not)

HUGELY much needed topic that needed to be covered! I only have personal anecdotes but heavy weed use nonstop for 2 years developed a social anxiety disorder within me. Talking, thinking, reading and socializing became incredibly difficult and I withdrew into a shell of my former self as a result. I felt like I had lost my spark and personality and turned me from someone extremely social to one that was very afraid of social interactions. Whatever people said, my mind couldnt process with enough speed to facilitate normal conversation and this made social interactions awkward and difficult. I always felt like people were looking at me and judging me; body movements that once felt natural felt forced and unnatural.
At the time, I just kept going because I felt like I could quit at any time (i didnt feel addicted), and I also underestimated weed (and many other drugs). It was my time of exploring drugs and all I was curious about was pushing limits and seeing how high I could get / different combinations of drugs.
Anyway this sort of mindset and lack of respect towards drugs has led to myself having to live my disorder for the rest of my life. It has been a very hard 5ish years but im slowing learning to live with it and figure out ways to be at peace with myself and my anxiety.
One thing ill note for sure is that after quitting weed, alot of the long term symptoms feel like they are slowly reversing and over the past couple years I have felt more myself than ever since I started smoking.
Im not saying this will happen to everyone/trying to demonize drugs, since I know many of my stoner friends have different experiences. Ive also had the most intense, amazing, fun and unforgettable moments on drugs.
But just dont underestimate weed (or psychadelics) just because they are "physically safe". The psyche is a very fragile thing and every time u take a drug that is psychoactive, ur playing a game of russian roulette whether u know it or not. You may be the unlucky few percent that has to have their life changed for the worse forever. Its a risk you have to be willing to take so keep monitoring how your body and mind feels to it and prioritize that over fun.
