I think if we are serious with each other about the moves; the Mets did very little on the pitching staff side. None of these new addition Mets pitchers are that premium of talent. I don't think there was any trade the Mets made that anyone went "wow" that really moved the needle. If you look at the wild card race there are several teams bunched right there and several of them Atlanta, San Diego, St Lous; made bigger name "on paper" better trades that help the needs be pushed more into their favor. As well as Arizona and Pittsburgh with some smaller moves made. I don't think the feeling right now is that the Mets really did anything to stand out and pull ahead. In order for the Mets to get a playoff spot there is little room for error; I don't think your throw the back of the rotation starters that the Mets have with confidence. I think the Mets really missed by not getting a more mid rotation type arm that would put less stress around the entire team. I believe if the Mets miss a play off spot it will be because you had to run some like Blackburn out there 6 to 8 starts as you didn't have anything better

Stearns was not about to sell the farm for a pitcher like Trevor Rodgers. The only good starter who got traded at the deadline was Fede, and we don't know for sure how he will play in the National League. They made enough moves to contend, but I feel like if they don't make it this year, they will be able to field a much stronger team next year. This year they wanted to contend, next year they want to make the playoffs. I think they will be able to do that next year.

Sorry but the METS needed to get a front line starter to fill the void left by SENGA'S injury. DIAZ still needs to get his control straighten out. A closer is not brought in to put runners on base but to close the door for good and DIAZ hasn't done that yet.

You saw what the Orioles and Astros had to pay to get pitching talent that was comparable to Paul Blackburn. The goal was to contend this year and win next year. This team can be a playoff team this year. We can be a playoff team next year. And the year after. I’m not wow’ed by the moves stearns made but I’m glad he didn’t hit the panic button and overspend. It’s about short term and long term success. I think some fans are still in the notion that we have to be going all in at any chance we got making the playoffs. Look at the history of the team. It’s about time that we have a club that can be in the playoffs on a consistent basis. That comes from not selling the farm and having a staff that develops their in house talent.

Overall, I like what Stearns did at the trade deadline. Instead of that one huge, ceiling-shattering move, he made a bunch of smaller moves to raise our floor. I can’t hate on that at all. The Mets bp 1 week ago was better than they are now after all these trades for other people's bp guys. The Mets spent all of May blowing leads because they kept pitching their off season signees before they finally promoted Nunez and Butto. The only real improvements are promoting legit stud arms that are already in your system. Put SPROAT in the bp in Queens. I think all these other bp moves will ultimately do little and might just get in the way.
