Vladdy hit 48 in 2021 in the middle of an absolutely stacked lineup. Since then he's hit 32, 26 and 30. Less meaningful situations? When you're the only run producer in your lineup besides your leadoff guy every situation is meaningful. I'm not going wste time poring over splits, but I watch every single Mets game and I would guess that at least half of his career hrs were with men on base, and close to half in mid-high leverage at bats.
And now i just checked it out...Of 160 career hrs for Vladdy 94 have been in low leverage situations, 53 in medium leverage and only 13 in high leverage situations. 197 of his 506 rbi have been in low leverage, 201 mid, 109 high. Pete Alonso of 226 hrs: 120 low, 89 medium, 17 high. Of 586 rbi, 225 were low, 249 medium and 112 high leverage. So, 58.75% of Vladdy's hrs were in low leverage situations and 53.09 of Alonso's were in low leverage. 41.25 of Vlad's hrs were in mid-high leverage, and 46.90 of Pete's were in mid-high leverage. In rbi they are nearly identical with Vlad at 61.1% mid-high and Pete 61.6% mid-high. So yeah check it out. You weren't even close, so I'm guessing you had no idea and just threw that out. Either way you were flat out wrong, but don't let that stop you...

And waiting 4 years for someone like Gunnar, who will also turn 28 during that first FA season? His HR output increased by 9 this season, and his RBI total only increased by that same 9. And he led the league with 25 errors, all at SS last season. Elly de la Cruz led the NL with 29. So much for that superior defense. If Oneil Cruz hadn't snuck in with 26 for the Pirates, they would have finished 1-2 for the most errors in all ob baseball. Lindor, with 4 years still left on his deal at that point, would still be doing better that. And as long as your just blindly throwing numbers out, how about a 10 year, $500 million deal? $50 million each of the first 5 years, plus a $50 million signing bonus. Then, $20 million for the final 5. Then $10 million a year deferred for 10 years.
Soto .... unfortunately.....is DEFINITELY NOT going to age well from 35-40. Vladi may actually age even worse than Soto. I definitely don't want both contracts at that point.

Met fans seem to forget that, even without Alonso, our offense is pretty good. We have Lindor, Soto, Alvarez, Nimmo and Vientos. That's five solid bats, if you add Alonso, you have six. MAYBE they don't make the playoffs, or don't go far. I'm extremely confident that this team will be a 100-game winner in 2026. Sproat, Nolan McClean and Jonah Sproat will either be in the majors or knocking at the door.

Given that it was very early in the season, it had a much stronger effect on his average than had it happened in July.

Vlad won a gold glove and Pete is not even athletic. And the notion of waiting years for Gunner Henderson is ludicrous. The Mets signed Juan Soto this year. They finally gave Lindor some help and their window starts now. No one cares about Gunner Henderson. The Mets need at least 2 more solid bats now

I want Pete back but although his BA was .240, Pete batted .198 with RISP in 2024, pretty disappointing , that needs to get better.
He hit .217 in 2023.
