Don't disagree, but the bullpen will be the next big additions. This is a league now where starters rarely go 7 or more innings. The Mets rotation is better than many are giving credit for. If they can get 2 more lockdown relievers, they'll be ok. Can always trade for a starter in July if they need to.
Yankees had a top notch pitching staff and got swept handily by the dodgers. Better to still get an ace but it shows you having a nasty rotation still might not get you the WS
@@MetsDaily This starting rotation would have to over achieve to win a championship. With Soto, Met fans expect a 100 wins easy this season already. My hopes aren't that high for this season. Stearns will need his magic bag of tricks and gimmicks this season as well. Just my opinion. Take care everyone.
stearns is a joke. he has no guts. they got soto due to choen's money. stearns is going after has beens....they are on their way down. he is not a gm. bring back a frank cashin type. major barry ret usaf
He totally screwed up not offering more for buehler than what he got. Now on Vlad jr, if he goes to free agency, he will be offered the qualifying offer to which he will reject and because of that, the team that signs him will give up a pick. Now if the mets decide to trade for him now, they would have to give up minimum 3 prospects for him. So if the bluejays do decide to trade him to the mets for 3 prospects say we are basically losing 2 prospects. I would give up Baty and 2 others of there choice with the exception of Sproat, Acuña, and Mauricio. To me wheather we get Pete or not its a no brainer.
New options for Pete: David Stearns is doing exactly what he is being paid by the NY Mets to do. Be a frugal and cost effective/conscientious executive of team management decisions. Let's look at this honestly. Stearns offered Alonzo a 3 year $90 million dollar contract. Pete and Boras chose to reject that offer which when the offerer was made would have made Pete the highest paid first baseman, receiving a $9 million dollar per year bonus over his last year's contract. His right to reject that offer but he wasn't factually aware of his contract value at the time Next, usually players during their walk year try to out perform their previous years performance so they can get a better offer. Pete didn't do that minus his playoffs performance romance. All these things considered, Pete bet on himself and lost, 4 Queens beat 3 Jacks every time. What him and Boras should do is sign a one year contract of $30 million dollars, with a batting average incentive, on base percentage incentive, and a home run incentive. Should he reach 2 of the 3 incentives, he can again seek a new contract based on his 2025 stats. On the other hand, if Pete reaches all 3 incentive arenas, then the Mets would give him a 4 year contract valued at $40 million dollars for the next 4 years, bringing his total 5 years earning under this plan to $190 million dollars, Well Pete and Scott, put up or shut up. This makes it fair for both sides!
Anyone not named Mauricio or Sproat gets plane tickets to Canada for Vlad if you could. How do you knock a guy that took the Brewers to four straight post seasons and then us that far? New sub btw because you mentioned Metropolitan Park and one thing the Dodgers or Yankees will never have is an 8 billion dollar proposal submitted with building permits waiting for approval

@originalmindset5278 Of course, it's Uncle Steve's money, it easy for you to say. I'm sure Stearns will make it so and sign Bregman as insurance too! Yeah, let's go Mets.
@paul , only thing is they want $31+ per , and i'm thinking we aint doing these #'s... Now always wanted #20 even on a 5yr ,but there has got to be a limit?
Let’s make this very clear: Pete Alonso gave us great memories. He was a fantastic Met, and I’m genuinely grateful for everything he’s done for the team. Now, let me be real: I’m done with him. Pete had a chance to sign a fair extension with the Mets-one that showed respect for what he brought to the table-but he decided to play the greed card. That’s his right, and good for him, but dragging this out didn’t help anyone, and it’s hurt his standing here. By not committing and forcing the Mets to pivot, Pete slowed down the entire process for the organization. At the end of the day, he played himself and hurt the team. I’m no longer interested in signing Pete Alonso. Give me Vlad Guerrero Jr. and let’s move on. Fuck the Dodgers. Bye, Pete.
The Blue Jays are a very sad team right now, but I just don’t see Rogers letting Vladi walk. They will be in for a few years with no attendance if they do so and I think they know it.
I mentioned on another site before that Pete has done so much for the team and for the fans...it's a shame Stearns is playing him so rough...admittedly Pete made a couple bad decisions by turning down the previous contract and hiring Boras as his agent..can't the Mets just look past that and offer him a decent fair contract? This team would not be the same without Pete. He works hard, the fans love him, and a fair contract will boost his confidence and he will make a turnaround..I have so much faith in Pete...His intangibles are also a plus..please do your best Mr Stearns/ Mr Cohen and come up to a decision which will be beneficial and pleasing to all concerned...Thanks..
How is David Stearns playing Alonzo rough? Stearns is dealing with Boras, not Pete. Should the Mets pay Alonzo a crazy deal even though no other team wants him? Your only reason is that the fans love him. Baseball is a business and the fans want to win. If the Mets re-sign Alonzo it will be for a realistic contract. Remember that NO OTHER TEAM WANTS PETE!
They have to do what is best for the team. Mets don't view him as a "captain" or "franchise altering" player. They want him at a fair price, not the prices him/Boras are asking for.
Vladi wants out of Toronto. He has his sights on NY or Boston. NY being top choice. Not to mention, NY has the money. Alonso is running out of time and I don't believe no other team will pay him what he wants. Hopefully, we'll find out soon enough so we can all move on and look forward to spring!
I just don't see it happening...$75M+ to 2 guys that play same position...think they would rather have a cheaper DH...plus both are going to want to play the field, especially Pete who wouldn't have long-term contract.
@@MetsDaily 1st base bias aside he is an MVP level player and nearly won the award.. If Soto a mediocre right fielder is getting 800 plus mil watch out for the demands of Vlad..
Cant stand fans like you. Pete is our home grown guy whose loyal AF and has had years where he was our best hitter by a mile. I would love Vlad but not at the cost of Polar Bear. On top of everything, we would love at least our top 3 prospects for Vlad. Resign polar bear!
@ them days are over Pete is no Tom Sever dude, Pete is in this position because of his greed he had an extension and turned it down. Haven't you asked yourself why no teams are beating the doors down for Petey Boy🤔 think about it!!
Mets offers to Pete were more than fair...Stearns doesn't really care that he is homegrown. That doesn't mean much when trying to build a team. They haven't won a title or pennant with him. He's had great moments, but not worth an overpay when the roster has other holes.
*Videos like this disgust me,* showing such littlle loyalty & appreciation for one of our home grown guys who has been loyal af & has done so much for us. What, we can overpay for the likes of Scherzer, Verlander, etc but play hardball with Pete? FOH. Polar Bear is not 32, 34, 37, etc, he's 30 & has had monster yrs for us, had 34 HR & 88 Rbi's on a supposed "bad yr".... His Numbers will rebound. Dude is talking about Pete as if he's 35 & his numbers dropped in half. Not resigning Pete will take so much away from the Soto Signing, at least for many of us die hards. p.s. Vlad would cost us several huge prospects which goes against this whole notion of wanting to replicate the dodgers success of winning & having a great farm system, not to mention you can sign him next yr.
Pete bet on himself and lost. He has to accept that. That's the way it goes sometimes when uou gamble. Should have taken the 3 year deal for $90 million with the opt out and see what 2025 produces
Stearns approach with pitching scares me, but it (generally) works, and I would rather have a stable of good horses than 2 studs. I believe the Jay's would take a slightly better package for Vlad than we gave for Lindor. Would Batty, Williams, McLean and Hamel do it? They would have to be sure of the extension tho...The Mets need to get it done very soon. If it gets to the deadline, contenders will jump... Rght now, who else needs him/ can afford him?
The deal for Lindor was idiotic. 2022-2024 Giminez has put up 90% of Lindor's bWAR for 10% of the cost, and AG is signed through his age 31 season, whereas the Mets will suffer Lindor's entire decline phase. Ridiculous claim. ---As for VG Jr, it's absurd to bank on an erratic 1Bman to be available to you in 2026.
What a stupid comment. Gimenez had a 140 ops+ in 2022 and has already started his decline. Been a below average hitter in 2023 and even worse in 2024 ops+ of 96 then 82!! Yes 82. Lindor is in his prime coming off one of his best seasons
David Stearns is not the right guy for this team. All he’s worried about is proving to the world that he can build a great team from cheap players, but we dealt with that situation since day1 with this franchise and now that we have an owner who has the money to do anything he wants we get this gm. It’s comical actually and is a typical thing for us Mets fans. We needed him under Freddy coupon. Now we have a guy who will spend whatever. And we get a small market gm!?!? And don’t tell me there’s no market for Pete Alonso, there isn’t a team in baseball that would turn him down if he brought his salary demands down if the Mets don’t take the offer that was specifically made for them, He’s going to get offended¬ sign here. He needs to sign better pitchers, even if the goal is not to keep them long-term, but the trade them and turn them into more prospects. Not spending anything is wasting the money when they could be buying players and turning them into an elite farm system.
Good luck with your new Channel
Thanks, Joseph!
If the Mets want to challenge the Dodgers they must get better starting pitching. Right now we are nowhere's close. Pitching, pitching, pitching!!!

Yeah well that was the cheap Wilpons excuses.
This cause the Mets got burned by signing Mo Vaughn. Burned very badly...They remembered that lesson.
