HELL, he's a top first baseman. He started and played in all 162 games in 2024. He saved the infielders lots of errors. He srill produces between 35 to 45 hrs per season and drive in between 85 to 100 rbis per season.
I would actually offer him incentives for more offensive categories. Hopefully it will wake something inside of him up. Ex.. more hits/rbi's/homeruns/obp/slugging and definitely less strikeouts. He's definitely a sensitive type of player who plays different with certain types of pressure.
@@LockedOnMets Agree.....I actually think this is carrying on too long now. No question he's a good Met. No question he wants more years than they're looking to give him. However.... they just paid 750 million for Soto..... there has to be a play here to meet in the middle. Pete gives them the most legit power bat and I truly believe most Mets fans want to see him in the lineup.
My heart wants Pete Alonso and my brain trusts Sterns and his plan for the Mets. Overall, I think Pete will be okay with taking a bit less money to be a Met. I don’t think he’ll sign anywhere else because no one is gonna offer more than the Mets
One thing fans don't think about, is that within three years, Lindor is going to have to move off of shortstop because his range will go down. That's why I don't trade Acuna, he has speed, a good upside bat, and he's an above average 1B
I agree with you after listening to all you explanations let’s bring Pete Alonso back give him five years 125 make the men Happy bring it back and bring in Anthony Santander also we will be biting the Yankees all the time let’s go Mets
Pete struck out a lot last season and did not hit a lot in big spots( outside of the playoff). I would like Pete back but not at top 3 paid first baseman.
Why do we keep doing this comparison of first basemen against one another? Across Major League Baseball there are three excellent first basemen and then everyone else is good to pretty good. Alonso is the fourth or fifth best in baseball not because of how good he is but because of how weak everyone else is. Alonso is the best of a not good bunch. You don’t pay him star money simply because he’s better than what’s out there if what’s out there is not good in the first place.
I think 120 mil for 4 years with an opt out after 3 is as high as I would go for Pete as much as I love the guy. At the end of the day this is business. Not that 12 year old Mets fan anymore. Not as sentimental . That ship 🛳️ has long since sailed😂. LGM💙🧡.
OK Alonso and Breggman aspiring a long contracts over 200 million..Both players have Boras like agent..The Mets needs to be creative..Sign Santander and Kim to play 3B, move Vientos to 1B..Santander will supply the Alonso power and Kim is a decent player that offer good defence, good hitter and can steal bases and don't need to expend a lot of money in long contracts for Alonso or Breggman.
Pete wants to be paid for his past. He wants you to forget about last year. He wants teams to take the chance that he still has good years ahead. He doesn't want to take that chance on himself, by taking the deal with an opt out.
I disagree that Olson is with the top 3, probably tier 1 is Bryce, Freeman and Vlad, tier 2 is Olson, Pete and Walker. The rest of the guys with 20 homer power (Contreras, Lowe, Diaz, Naylor, Hoskins, Santana) slot into tiers 3/4.
Defense has to enter the equation. Olsen is better defensively, Walker better, hell Santana is better on defense even at 38 defensively. Pete to me is around 7
1) I disagree that Pete is still feared. 2) It is fatiguing to continually hear, day after day, what Pete wants. Pete shot himself in the foot because of greed or feeling full of himself. Last season, he never hit an HR when we absolutely needed one, except for his lucky post-season "flash in the pan" plate appearances. 3) It's time for Pete to poop or get off the pot! Now, let's move on to more interesting topics. Today's program sounded like a broken record!
Call uncle Steve please tell him to give my man 125.000 for 5 years forget about Guerrero you’re right One Hundred Percent after explanation of the Home runs alonso should be our guy so they don’t have to spend all this money forget about Guerrero
The longer this drags out, the more I get sick of Alonso and this saga. He's not worth the money he wants. Get Vladdy next year. If Pete wanted to win, he'd be like, give me a 1 year 25 million deal and let's see if we can reach the WS.
if the Mets are considering taking a run at Vladimir Guerrero Jr., (either by trade in 2025 or by pouring insane money on him in 2026) then they can't sign Alonso. They can park Vientos at first for the time being, or get a stop gap player for now. When Alonso first broke in he seemed like our Harmon Killebrew, but he is not the elite player he promised to be. He is pretty good, and he is homegrown.
What if Guerrero ask for more money than Soto? Is he better than Soto? Is he worth it? Do you honestly think Cohen will overpay every elite free agent every season? Be realistic Met fans. And bring Pete back I say. Just my opinion. Take care everyone.

This is not the NFL, (where the next FA QB gets the big deal) regardless of how good they really are. Pete is not better than Bryce, Freddie, Vlady or Matt Olsen, therefore should be paid accordingly, take in mind Bryce signed as an OF. 4/112 take it or leave it!
There is no way I am bringing back Alonso. He is not a clutch superstar hitter. This team besides Soto has had a terrible off season. They need to bring in Vlady to help this lineup. There picking is below average. There bullpen is below average and there hitting is average. They need Vlady and another bat for sure. They need another stud pitcher and they need at least 2 relievers for sure.
That seems to be the main issue. There’s not much more power in the lineup outside of Soto and Vientos at the moment. Obviously Lindor, and Nimmo has decent power, but they still need one or two more bats.
Vientos no doubt. Actually near end of year Mets were batting Vientos 4th cleanup and Alonso 5th. Plus have a feeling Mauricio going to light it up this year.
Easy go sign Bregman now and it's a non issue to move Vientos to first and slot Bregman in this lineup. I would trade for Cease and see if they would throw Arraez in there as well. Get your approach to be about obp, speed and defense
@@santosavila9312 You could also trade for Arenado. After this season, he becomes a lot cheaper. If you add an outfielder such as Cedric Mullins, you can move Nimmo to DH, or !B.
Alonso shouldn’t be batting behind Soto anyway. Teams will pitch around Soto ALL DAY to get to Alonso. Soto should bag behind Alonso to protect Alonso because Alonso isn’t a good enough hitter to do it on his own.
Sign Pete and go all out for Kyle Tucker next year. Why? That would give us the best lineup in baseball. He is a better hitter and player than Vladimir and may actually deserve the $$.
I can't see Cohen blowing up his payroll. In 2026, Next year the owners could come down even harder on the big spenders. The Mets need to build a sustainable winner. You can't do this if you keep losing draft picks and money.
Christian Walker may not be the home run threat Alonso is but he is better defensively and he also is physically in better shape than Alonso. He obviously puts work in the weight room.
Yeah he's a better fielder but Pete's worked himself into a respectable le fielder . 1b has always been a Slugger position. Offensively he betters Walker in about any metric. That's with Walker playing in Arizona. Fielding is important, but to choose a player, esp a 1b, as a better player using fielding metrics, which are deceiving, is almost laughable. Out of shape is ridiculous. Pete is in shape, esp for a 1b. Hes not fleet a foot, but like a mack truck once cruising he's moving.
Harper is CERTAINLY the best overall first baseman. It's not debatable...... and I'm not a Harper fan. Leave Guerrero for some other team. He's not worth the money he wants and he'd be a mess of a contract.
Since July of '23, Pete Alonso is 12th among 1B in WAR. There's no reason for the Mets to overpay for a 30 yr old 1st baseman who is aging & declining. We took Pete's best years. This is the time that winning organizations move on. With how Alonso has trended in 2023 & 2024, he is not worth much going forward and we won't pay him what he thinks he deserves.

I have to disagree in terms of the interested teams. I can ABSOLUTELY see Moreno being a moron and giving Pete a 7 year close to 200 mil. That move has so much Angel stink on it it’s nauseating
If Pete accepts 3 yrs for 90.....he will make far more than the original offer he turned down. He will be 33 at free agency and just 48 million to cover for the rest of his career. If he's playing well he will make over 200 million before he's 38. He needs to understand that the Mets are definitely not looking to keep him at first base more than a year or two..... probably nobody wants him there. He will end his career as a DH..... and that very well may come sooner than later.
There is no way I am bringing back Alonso. He is not a clutch superstar hitter. This team besides Soto has had a terrible off season. They need to bring in Vlady to help this lineup.
