I’m watching this at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, and I’m expecting that by 3:30, Scott Borus will announce that a “mystery team” has become involved in the Alonso bidding and that “mystery team” is very close to his contract demands. This is the same guy who conned Omar Minaya into believing that Oliver Perez was one of the greatest left handed pitchers in the history of baseball. Then the Mets got 3 wins for the 36 million they spent on Perez. Borus did the same thing with Michael Conforto when he was a free agent. He claimed that so many teams had interest in him. Turned out he finally had to confess that the guy had a bad shoulder and would have to take a year off. I guess if I was a player I’d want Borus as my agent, since he’s so good at conning owners. But if I owned a team, I’d see Borus was a major problem when it came to signing players for what they are really worth.
3/90 is fair for his profile. If he wants to pull this nickel and dime stuff, just sign Bregman and move Vientos to 1B for the year. That’s still a very competitive lineup
Cohen is worth 20 billion. Pay the man what he’s worth not what you want bc you want to dump him for Vlad Jr next year. When the Mets signed Soto money was no object now they’re worried about money.
This is capitalism. You’re worth what the market is willing to pay you. I don’t want to see Pete getting screwed over either, but neither should the Mets by overpaying him way more than any other team is willing to pay him. I know the Mets have tons of $, but we still want them to hold on to draft pool and IFA money for better chances of also acquiring and developing homegrown talent as well, which is also a huge part of the fan experience.
@@petenieto1575 “This is capitalism.” Sadly, that IS the bottom line. The Great American pastime really is just an investment opportunity for billionaires.
The Mets have plenty of money to pay Pete. Capitalism? That's this > $700 million Soto. Now every other player has to be pinched? Pete deserves to be paid a measly 25 p/year. The worry is the IFA for one year? Who cares. There's plenty of young talent in the Mets minors and camp.
@@PattiInNYC You can't pay the entire team based on Soto. There's little doubt that the Mets will make Pete a very fair offer based on his market. He's going to make life changing money. It's up to him if enough is enough. The Mets and Pete have always been good to each other.
@@PattiInNYCRight. And those young players are prevented from participating in “capitalism,” no matter how good they are. They have to accept minimum salaries, then accept arbitration, and then, if they stay healthy, finally reach free agency - their shot at the “free market.” After all those years of literally being blocked from the free market, they get their shot. And so many fans call them “greedy.” It’s messed up. IMO.
The Mets should use the $ for Vlad & Kyle Tucker next yr. Screw Pete if he’s not willing to take this. Pete can go sign with the mariners and ruin his career
The only reason that Pete Alonso has not signed an extension is Scott Boras. Boras always holds out for the last nickel. He doesn't care that Pete is happy being a Met.
To answer your question. I’m a Mets fan not a player fan. Don’t care who plays for my team as long as they win. Players have the right to do what they do and I have no problem with it. But I’m not naive and understand that players don’t care about the fans and loyalty to a team. It’s a business for them to get paid and that’s it. Same as most owners want to make money also.

You're putting a lot of Fath in Vientos who finally got almost a whole year of playing time & has struggled with over 25% rate ssuyrdI'm a huge fan & was banging the drums for him, but his difficulty handling tough grounders make him a liability. For one, the team side is forever. Players rarely show loyalty and stay with the team and fans they claim to love. They’ll claim they have to do what’s best for their family and move them to Alaska for an extra 5 million dollars. Secondly, rich owners manage this as a hobby. The books don’t support 350 million dollar payrolls. Steve reaches into his personal wealth to pay these guys. The facts are his OPS has declined sharply over the past 2 years. He bet on himself and failed. 3/80 sounds good. Maybe 3/90 with opt outs. If they overpay for Pete they’re gonna have a tough time getting Vlad.

@@dashx1103 if he doesn’t know that he’s regressing then why wouldn’t he settle for $30 million AAV for three years with an opt out every year? We agree that Alonso is the better choice at a reasonble rate. Offering him $25m or $26m AAV per year is not a bad deal for him. However, alternative trade options should include Ke'Bryan Hayes and Jazz Chisholm, Jr. Josh Bell is a reasonable free agent who could be reunited to Juan Soto. Worse case scenario, New York could take their chances with left handed hitting JT Schwarts or Joey Meneses at 1B. Moreover, our favorite team should offer whoever will help them bring back Kumar Rocker. Especially, if Roki Sasaki chooses the West Coast. We don't need to lose out on another Wheeler type pitcher. Let's Go Mets!!!
I love Pete. That doesn't change the fact that he bet on himself, and lost the bet. If he had a career year with 60 hr and an OPS over 1, he'd be getting paid. Instead, he had his worst year by every measure. Decisions have consequences.
Kind of funny that the spectre of Baty playing 3rd has people panicking and screaming to hurry and sign Pete. Stay cool and calm everyone. Noone else is in on Pete. This is fortuitous for the Mets. Its not just about win now. Its about a sustainable path over the long term and dynasty.
Really? You don't get why fans come down on the management side, like, ever? It's pretty easy to explain. Let's say Pete was asking for $2 Billion over 3 years. Now, obviously he's not... but let's say he is. Would you come down on Pete's side and say the Mets should pay him? This is important because it really asks the question of "are you one of those who say the Mets should sign Pete AT ANY COST?" If you think that's too much, then you're coming down on the management side and not Pete's side, right? Why aren't you advocating for Pete to make $2 Billion/3 years? Because that's too much of an overpay, right? If you recognize that, then you recognize that fans don't like to see an overpay on their team. The only difference between $2B/3Y and $90M/3Y is the level where you think it's too much of an overpay. Pete has been declining for 3 years. He's never come close to his rookie numbers. He's a one dimensional player, entering his 30s, where RH power hitting 1bmen tend to fall off a cliff in production (Just see Ryan Howard, Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Glenn Davis, etc...). We don't want the Mets to paying out a contract like $30m/year when this happens to Pete, if it hasn't already started. We come down on the management side because to us, $90m/3years is too much. I'd be okay with $81m/3 years, but not a penny more (even the $81m/3 years is too much, IMO, but I do believe in loyalty to some degree). If Pete was asking for $60m/3 years and the team was offering $30m/3 years, I'd come down on Pete's side. It's all a matter of what's reasonable.
Man, I hate to see a guy worth $24 billion being asked to spend a tiny fraction of that to help the team he proclaims to love and the fanbase that believes in him. So tough to be a multi-billionaire.
The only other team that makes any sense at all, is the Tigers. They desperately need a good power bat. I just don't think they want to give him the kind of money or contract he's seeking.
Mets need to move on. Let Scot Boras and Pete Alonso have each other. They have 1 suitor and still want to be over paid? GTFOH! Mets start planning for plan B.
Nobody wants Pete back more than me, but with that being said you’re 100% right! If the rumors are true that they offered him 3 yrs/90 mil (which would give him the highest AAV of any first baseman) and he feels like that’s a “lowball” LET HIM WALK! Boras is the worst possible agent for Alonso to hire, and it just might be time for him to pay the price for that decision
@ yup! Agreed and 3 years $90 million isn’t enough! Then if I’m the Mets I’m looking for another option. 1 year rental until next year when Vladdy Guerrero Jr. is available!
If I was Pete I would not sign with the Mets due to him being a true Met and to see the team jump of a roof to sign another defensive liability and treat me the same way Harvey was treated lol Mets Baseball
How is Pete screwed over? He gambled and lost. No one is offering him the money he already rejected. The market tells you the value and the market spoke. Pete approached this as business and because he doesn’t like his market value we shouldn’t overpay for emotions. I trust this front office to do what’s necessary to have long term success.
Pete will most likely grow to regret this. He will sign on somewhere for less than he could have with the Mets and the Mets will be just fine. They may sign Bregman and move Vientos to first. This imo digresses in offense but slightly betters the defense. Next year however they can sign Vlad and move Vientos to full time DH. This would be an insane lineup with that direction. Either way the Mets will be fine but Pete may need to fire his agent
Screw Boras…. We have always taken care of him and his clients. It’s time to get a discount for some players. Tired of taking my kid and myself to a game for $200 a game. That is ridiculous. The cost of seats and food for these over priced players. Soto’s contract is terrible.
The reason why we're on the teams side is 90% of the big contracts end up being overpays and hurt future roster moves, it's only recently Cohen has changed that.
There's an answer here that works for everyone. Pete isn't greedy. OK, he probably miscalculated when he turned down the 7/158 deal 2 years ago. It is what it is. Your career as a professional athlete is short. he shouldn't be punished for trying to make the best deal he can. Do a 5 year $130 million deal and call it good. Baty isn't a major leaguer. Vientos isn't a 3rd baseman. Who knows with Mauricio. Lets get Pete back and sign Bregman and we have a lineup that can beat the Dodgers.
Good stuff, Ryan! I'd rather get Yandy now and try and land Vlad next year. If you go and get Bregman as well, you can have Vientos/Yandy platoon 1B and join in the mix w Marte at DH. Defense would improve immensely. Breggy/Yandy doesn't quite match Pete's pop, but our OB% would be through the roof, and our K rate would plummet.
Hey Pete, the Mets hold most if not all of the cards. Take 3 and $90M or 4 and $100M WITH op outs in the first two years. You wanna get revenge? Have a super year and op out. Bet on yourself.
People say Boras is bad for the game I think Hayman is bad for the game. He is Boras’s little minion, I can’t stand him. We need our pitching prospects at least out good ones, so I would pass on the Boston trade. Mets should try and trade for Jose Ramirez, you know the Indians are always willing to trade.
Take a look really how much longer is Pete going to play first 2-3 yrs at best then after that full time DH his HR production is on decline the time he’s 35 he’s washed 3/90 is best suited for him but he thinks other wise let me him walk not worth it do wait and see approach til Trade Deadline maybe lil earlier and see BlueJays are and get Vlad on deal and he would be better protection for Soto anyway Pete just isn’t worth headache to have
5 yrs / $140 mil for Pete. This should be good enough at the end of the day. Get Pete into spring training on time, and don't let Greedy Scotty drag this out into March. Vlad Jr won his arbitration and will get $28 mil this season, I think. So, if for the next 5 years, your telling Pete and Scotty the Mets are willing to pay an AAV equal to what Vlad will ge this year, they should take that. IF THEY DO NOT, then, and only then, do I think the Mets would be more than justified to move on and pursue other options. Pete will NEVER, EVER be as good as Vlad Guerrero Jr.
Imagine NLCS we have to face the dodgers AGAIN. Is there a pitcher that wants that mound more than Trevor Bauer? And he is free. We can do it. We can be the evil empire.
This is extremely one sided. You're dismissing the fact that the Mets offered PA a long term (career ending contract extension in his bad 2023 season), and PA rejected it. 2024, we saw JD Martinez (Boras boy) sign in March, and throw a wrench into Vientos/Mendoza, and the chemistry of the team at large's preparation. . So hold the guy who HOLDS ALL THE CARDS ACCOUNTABLE. PA didn't have a Nimmo free agent year, PA didn't have a Second gar Diaz free agent year. Mets know we have valid plan B's for this season, and more appealing Free agent (VGJ) next season. I love Pete, but I don't love coddling someone who could potentially perpetuate anxiety into late February and March in our teams chemistry, solely on PA's ego and his impulse to change agents to Scott Boras. Have a good week. ✌️
How is Pete screwed if he makes $60-70 mil over 3 years???....lol...that is his market....maybe Blue Jays sign Pete and trade Vladdy Jr....or Mets sign Pete and trade him for Vladdy Jr in package at trading deadline
Fans are ignorant...... they know Pete had a down year and passed up an extension that would have been lucrative and they want to make him suffer for it. It's not the majority of fans ....but a minority. They forget how important he has been through his career for this team. They forget his home run that allowed them the opportunity to play the Dodgers in the NLCS. They also forget that Boras is his agent and influences his decisions. It was a two man show for a long time in Queens...., Alonso and Lindor. Im sure he was surprised Soto was coming aboard the boat next season. Met fans need to cut him some slack. Pete is a good Met and PLAYS EVERYDAY
Pete has been homerun or nothing. Hes regressing FAST! Id rather part ways with Pete EARLY rather than later when he is bad with an albatross contract and start to dislike him. We cant go e him whatever he wants because hes homegrown
You're wrong, as far as "regressing FAST"...Pete hit .240 in 2024 vs .217 in 2023...And Pete's BEST stretch was in the Playoffs where he hit over .270 and had 4 HRs, 10 RBIs and an OPS of 0.999...So, if anything, Pete is progressing...!!

Man I'd hate to see someone who swings a bat get screwed over with a $60 million contract. Oh, the humanity.
Man, I hate to see a guy worth $24 billion being asked to spend a tiny fraction of that to help the team he proclaims to love and the fanbase that believes in him. So tough to be a multi-billionaire.
If I’m sterns I’m trying to sign Pete to a 6 year deal player opt out after 4 team opt out after 5 (to coincide with Soto potential opt out)
The only other team that makes any sense at all, is the Tigers. They desperately need a good power bat. I just don't think they want to give him the kind of money or contract he's seeking.
I think its time for the Mets to move on.
Sizable Gap = The Extent of Greed of Scotty Boras
Dozens of citizen sports analysts all saying basically the same thing.
Pete!
Vogelbach is cheap - if Pete does not sign
The Mets goal is Vlad
all the owners should get together and not sign any boras clients for 2 years
How is Pete screwed over?
It would be even worse for him if he left and the Mets then build a dynasty.
Take the offer Pete or bounce.
Tell me you have no content without telling me you have no content
Screw Boras…. We have always taken care of him and his clients. It’s time to get a discount for some players. Tired of taking my kid and myself to a game for $200 a game. That is ridiculous. The cost of seats and food for these over priced players. Soto’s contract is terrible.
Pete and Bregman would really make the Mets solid for the next few years!
It would definitely give the Mets one of the deepest lineups in baseball. If the Mets are able to reasonably sign both players, they should.
The reason why we're on the teams side is 90% of the big contracts end up being overpays and hurt future roster moves, it's only recently Cohen has changed that.
I thought they’re trying to win a World Series now. Not 3-5 years later. Forget about starting Baty or any of these kids. Sign BOTH Bregman and Alonso
@FM...$26mil AAV is a GOOD $# for Pete...You hit it...And 5 years seems reasonable
There is no one in on Pete. Its Boras bs
Pete Alonzo and his agent, Scott Boras are losing big in the public relations poll. Boras' hubris screwed Alonzo.
A joke you say you want Pete singed at a fair price when the Mets spent ridiculous money on Soto now acting like the Pirates lol
Pete is screwing himself right now
alonso's not worth more than Freeman or Olsen
Pete Alonso is a dufus version of Dave Kingman
Imagine NLCS we have to face the dodgers AGAIN. Is there a pitcher that wants that mound more than Trevor Bauer? And he is free. We can do it. We can be the evil empire.
He burned his bridge with the Mets a few years ago.
Alex Cohen says no way.
Sign & trade doesn't happen in MLB.
Let him go. He is not worth the money he wants.
❤❤❤You are awesome Ryan and thank you 🎉! Yes we just have to wait a few more weeks and the Mets and Pete need to meet in the middle and bring Pete to Citi l f g m !!!🎉
