I've been listening to Ryan since 2019, which means that for the past five years I've heard him explain that "wRC+ measures hitters on a league average of 100" every single day
Lmao, I personally feel like explaining those "esoteric" stats to any potential new listeners provides more benefit than not. Though. it does give me a chuckle when I hear the explanation on a near daily basis.
@@bungh0LeO is it any more esoteric than WAR at this point? I think most of us get it by now. I honestly think it just rolls off Ryan's tongue at this point. Not sure he even notices
Hey Ryan….did you not see nimmo’s interview in that recent Amazin Mets thing? Nimmo confirmed that it was not any injuries the reason….he said that when he faced some tough pitching , after a couple weeks he decided to tweak his mechanics and that was what threw him off for the rest of the season….he emphasized that it was not injuries…he said he’ll have a different approach this year….you should watch that interview
Hello Ryan. I know that it's very tough coming up with content everyday when nothing is happening. With that in mind, I applaud you for for your creativity in fielding interesting podcasts. Thank you for your efforts!
27:28 LMAO. This is so damn true. My friend and I always point it out and it cracked me up when you brought it up. It's like the equivalent to me playing League of Legends. Not a pleasure to be around. xD
Nimmo suffered a concussion in May 2024 when he was hbp in the head by Harrison and Ive worked too long in medicine to be told otherwise. He wasn't off to a great start but it was only May and was starting to show signs of coming out of it. He should've been taken out immediately and gone through post-concussion evaluation but he stayed in and went even colder over the following weeks. Does nobody remember this?
Nimmo's ability to hit in the clutch is the ability to dial in and focus when needed. Nimmo may deny his foot was not an issue, but that type of injury is a huge problem. If he learn to use the focus he dials into with men are on base, his improvement will be quite noticable.
I don’t have any concerns about Nimmo or McNeil and here is why. Both have excellent track records BUT more importantly, they fully know why they struggled last season and know what to adjust (McNeil did it the second half of the season). McNeil was interviewed during the second half and he said that during the first half he was trying to “guide” the baseball. He said he wasn’t just seeing it and hitting it. If he continues to stay away from trying to guide the ball and continues to see it and hit it, he will be fine. As for Nimmo, last season he was interviewed and he said that pitchers had started pitching him a bit more like a power hitter and he needed to adjust. I’m confident this season Nimmo will adjust to how he is being pitched. More aggressive than early in his career but less power hitter’ish. This isn’t me just opining, these are actual comments and remarks McNeil and Nimmo made.
As I recall Nimmowas doing fine last season until he took a fastball in the jaw in July, I believe. His production fell off for a while. These guys are human beings and you can’t ignore injuries like that affecting performance.
.300 hitters are so rare in today’s game. McNeil has obviously done it before, if he can become that player again it would do wonders for the Mets lineup.
Why are you even suggesting Lindor not hit leadoff at this moment? Is changing into an MVP candidate and the Mets changing into a team with the best record for months not sufficient evidence that Lindor should be leadoff unless something drastic happens? Cmon dude
I never wanted or needed to see Nimmo be a power hitter. What’s wrong with batting for a high average, lots of hits and OBP, and keeping the lineup moving? Not so sure we need to him be a power hitter as much as a hitter period - and that includes w runners on.
I always expect good things from Nimmo because he works hard and loves the game. As far as Soto improving Nimmo's stats this year......I don't put much into that. Baseball players typically don't just pick up their stats from being around great players. If that was the case..... everyone would be an all star.
Year 3 of a rich 8 year contract and we are already talking about having only 1 more year of prime! His foot hurts so much - I don’t think the Mets are going to look back favorably at the Nimmo contract 3 years from now. Wishing him the absolute best though - such a good guy and player. McNeil on the other hand should be traded - also a good guy but he is more into golf and cricket at this point.
NO, time to take a more classical approach, assuming no Pete. Lindor, Nimmo, Soto, Vientos, and then the rest to be determined by offseason and spring training.
Billy Eppler really took 300 million dollars and made 300 million bad decisions. Mcniel and Nimmo contracts are both terrible, along with just about every other one he gave out.
It seems like the Mets cannot hit in cold weather. So they hit like crap in April and May and then seem to turn it on. They do not play well in the cold
Apparently, Boras asked for opt outs where Pete gets to leave the team and the Mets still have to pay him bonus money. If that’s true, I don’t blame Cohen. Maybe the desperate Blue Jays will do something that stupid, but thank God the Mets won’t.
Ryan released a short video recently addressing this, and he explained that it is a fairly standard contract practice these days ... specifically pointing to Bellinger's contract as an example. He also stated explicitly that the "opt out bonus" has nothing to do with the contract dispute between Pete and the Mets.
What is this garbage about McNeil not working hard - stop please stop - media already ran Alonso out of town now we are trying to run another guy out of town.. McNeil will hit 290 plus
Oh my fn god your videos are like listening to an annoying math teacher I always have to turn you off. No wonder your subs never go up like other channels take some advice more general opinion and sports talk less numbers

it’s the only stat that matters now lol
😂😂
wRC+ which measures league average hitters of 100

Nimmo would never make excuses, he’s that kind of guy.

Majority of the NYM line up couldn’t lay off breaking pitches. Hitting coach as to take some responsibility

Yes I already commented on that.
@@mJake17 it's bizarre how we're the only two people I've seen make reference to it
Would like to see McNeill hit at least .285, and Nimmo hit at least 20 homeruns.
Nimmo hit more than 20 this past season and still had a "bad year" so we'd need more to his game than just homers
Yes Ryan you are sooo right thank you very much !

I don't have concerns with McNeil because any competent GM would get him off their team.
Nimmo has been my favorite Mets player since the day he came up

I think Jeff McNeil is our only 300 hitter. Of course he has to prove it

You’re ignoring the obvious about Nimmo’s drop off - I traded for him in my fantasy league! Sorry, my fault 🤨🤨🤨

Yeah, Nimmo also played hurt at the end of last year. If he can be fully healthy this year, there’s no doubt he can bounce back.

Nimmo is a great player
Kevin McReynolds is another example.
I love this interview as a Republican Matt was my least favorite, but now I think he is very real 😍 thanks for the interview
Jeff Mcneil will turn into Daniel Murphy
Lindor was awesome in the leadoff role and ain’t moving ,, Nimmo like a 5th hitter now …
Billy Eppler really took 300 million dollars and made 300 million bad decisions. Mcniel and Nimmo contracts are both terrible, along with just about every other one he gave out.
Looks to me like Nimmo needs to get his eyes checked. Too many swing and misses and didn’t seem to see balls hit to him in the field so well.
It seems like the Mets cannot hit in cold weather. So they hit like crap in April and May and then seem to turn it on. They do not play well in the cold
Good thing you can’t win the division in April/May
I remember some pretty bad Junes though…..
It can get pretty cold in Sept and Oct.
Ryan...Nimmo might have an issue stepping up with that bad wheel he has.😮

Why do you care so much about McNeil! You refuse to trade him but you will let Acuna or Mauricio go for any trade we do
