A tour of all my current knitting Works in Progress
The cushion - which I thought was a Sasha Kagan design is actually by Susan Duckworth. So apologies! It explains why I couldnt find an image! Here is a link! www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moths-3
This week I'm chatting about works in progress, how I feel about them, and how I'm not going to feel guilty about them any more.
I mention @under.eagle.mountain and the patterns I discuss are

My Slow and Calm Morning Routine
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.16 часов назад
Last week I was asked in the comments if I would make a video about my morning routine. I have a very slow start to each day, but one that nurtures me and allows me to maintain my energy. In this video I discuss the need for all kinds of morning routines to be shown, how my Addisons Disease effects how I function in the mornings and what things I have found help in easing me into the day. 🌿 I a...
Tour this Scottish Artist's House
Просмотров 36 тыс.14 дней назад
Come and have a look around my house with me. The house is at heart a very standard 1980s bungalow which we have converted over the years into a light filled space full of the kinds of old, reclaimed and handmade things that I love. A home to me isn't a fancy, matching, show home kind of place - it is build up of layers of living. I hope that you like looking around. I mention www.makikohasting...

Inchmahome: The ruined priory that was refuge for the Scottish child Queen, Mary Queen of Scots

Join me in a trip - a rather rainy trip - to the beautiful and tranquil Island of Inchmahome on the Lake of Menteith in the middle of Scotland. It is proof that if you want to have a tourist attraction all to yourself you should visit in the rain. A week in my life; running a small creative business in the Scottish countryside.

In this week's video I filmed a bit each day, right through the week to show you how I have created a business which supports the life I want to live, rather than one which saps the life out of me! How can I make an income from my garden? New plans and ideas

This week's film is all about my decision to bring my garden - or part of it - back into the business and to find ways of making money from it. Back in 2003 when we moved here I grew cut flowers for a living but had to stop when my health declined. Now I want to get back to it - in a much smaller way, the piece of land I'm growing on is only 25 metres squared. I talk about my plans, what I've b...

As I get older my knitting & spinning projects become smaller and more doable increasing the likelihood that I will finish them. I love making pocket dolls, gnomes, hats & mittens. But that’s only part of the stash, as I love watercolor, botanical dyeing, creating my own line of yarn, clay, embroidery and so much more! It’s a good problem to have❣️ You are a joy, Jane❣️💄🧶🌼🌸🦋🌱🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I’d swap my WIP’s for yours any day. Do luv the last 2, especially the blanket but my “don’t buy any more yarn” rule is still in place. Mostly project bags with yarn and pattern but a box full of embroidery kits also ready to go, mostly Nicki franklin and M.R.S. Embroidery then a needlepoint rug I started 30 years ago, 11 of 12 blocks finished but then there’s the border!! I am feeling guilty and hope I finish it all b4 I croak 😫 but you are inspiring me to get cracking’ yet once again! Can’t wait to see the blanket finished 💜

Your cardigan colours just sing and are so beautiful and I love your blanket. You should always have at least one mistake in your project, the saying goes:"only Allah is perfect". 4 Wip's is really not a lot and your waist coat is going to be stunning I am sure, the yarn and colours look wonderful. I am still looking for the perfect something to knit with my first natural dyed wool and hope to find it soon as I am really itching to get started. Have a lovely weekend xx

@@snapdragonlife Some are just lying around to be picked up randomly :) I usually have one commission, one garment for myself or husband and an easy 'no brainer' as TV knitting. I also have one that I can't bring myself to finish as it has dog hairs on it from my beloved Jack Russell called Max who passed over the rainbow three years ago. I know it sounds really soppy, but I keep him close by not finishing and leaving the hairs in situ.

I kind of went crazy with projects after I retired. I crochet, quilt, slow stitch and make garments. After getting overwhelmed and finishing off a bunch and getting back on track I set parameters for myself. I have eight flat plastic baskets that stack up and each project goes in one, so I can't start more. I tape a card to each with info and the date and I can see when things have lingered too long. I keep a variety of hard to easy projects. Projects bags did not work for me, the yarn got all tangled and then I don't want to mess with it. When I have empty baskets they are also nice for organizing and accumulating for a new project. If all eight baskets are full I restack them so the oldest is on top and try to knock those off. This was a very good video.

Hiya beautiful lady, I’m knitting an aquarium sea type scape pram blanket for my big daughter who is expecting her first baby in four weeks. I started it in June but with the warmer weather it felt really difficult to knit with super wash wool. I finished the background two days ago and started on knitting the details directly on the knitting. So now it’s smaller I will just go with it and knit the fish etc. lovely video, happy Friday ❤️☀️❤️

Another lovely video Jane - thank you. I also have the Glorious Knitting book and although I haven't made anything out of it, I sometimes have a flick through as I love Kaffe's designs. I also have a few of his tapestry books and I've made a couple of cushions from the patterns included in the books - they were a joy to complete. Looking at your WIPs has reminded me of a cabled knitted cushion cover I put away half finished - I'm going to get that out today and start working on it. I'm looking forward to seeing the silk waistcoat as it's such an unusual design and the yarn colours you've chosen are gorgeous x.

I do like the 'out of sight, out of mind' theory for when items are put into a cupboard! Your projects will all look glorious when they're finished. I think we can all empathise with unfinished to-do's - I've recently got two new sewing projects on the go & have picked up one unfinished from a selection I have that I fancied doing, so given myself choice & hopefully that will mean I will feel inspired to complete them!

Oh Jane, I have a ridiculous number of knitting projects on the go!! I don’t know why I don’t finish things before I cast something else on!! My Mum used to do lots of knitting when I was small and she says she would always finish the one thing she was knitting before she moved onto the next. I do wish I was more like her because I can feel terrible guilt and overwhelm when I find another unfinished thing in the cupboard. And knitting isn’t my only vice hahaha because I spin, weave, sew, garden…..😳😳 I adore your blanket, the colours are wonderful. Lucky husband. Have a wonderful time in Croatia. I have multiple half finished projects. And yesterday I decided to have a creative day. It feels that it was much needed and I really enjoyed myself. It’s an Italian glue - I sell it here in the UK - but if you google it you will probably find it elsewhere too. www.snapdragonlife.com/store/product/287_supplies/289_printmaking--bookbinding/1407_tin-of-coccoina-glue/

Thank you for this. I have settled into a slow routine in the mornings recently. I often wake in the wee hours due to my chronic condition, but have found that simply settling in my reclining chair after a few gentle stretches really helps. I’ll have a flask of hot water that so that I can refresh my favourite mug and will either look at the lightening sky (my chair is in a conservatory) or listen to an audio book. So grateful for the library service using BorrowBox so no cost involved. When i eventually do get up and washed and dressed, I can feel almost human again. Take care

Hi Jane, your patchwork quilts are truly beautiful. Your mums patchwork would maker a nice wall hanging of memories. I am in awe of all the hard work that goes into making them. I too was always one of the last to be picked for hockey matches in school 😥. I would spend the match running up and down the wing barely getting to touch the ball! Glad to be past that stage in life. Take care and have a lovely week. xx

Thanks Barbara. I definitely wouldn’t like to be back doing school sports!
