I do like the 'out of sight, out of mind' theory for when items are put into a cupboard! Your projects will all look glorious when they're finished. I think we can all empathise with unfinished to-do's - I've recently got two new sewing projects on the go & have picked up one unfinished from a selection I have that I fancied doing, so given myself choice & hopefully that will mean I will feel inspired to complete them!
I kind of went crazy with projects after I retired. I crochet, quilt, slow stitch and make garments. After getting overwhelmed and finishing off a bunch and getting back on track I set parameters for myself. I have eight flat plastic baskets that stack up and each project goes in one, so I can't start more. I tape a card to each with info and the date and I can see when things have lingered too long. I keep a variety of hard to easy projects. Projects bags did not work for me, the yarn got all tangled and then I don't want to mess with it. When I have empty baskets they are also nice for organizing and accumulating for a new project. If all eight baskets are full I restack them so the oldest is on top and try to knock those off. This was a very good video.
Thanks Melinda. Croatia is such a beautiful country and the Croatian people so welcoming. This will be the 5th time we have been to Hvar - living very simply in a hut by the sea. X
I just love this video, Jane and its galvanized me into action! I have hauled out my couple of unfinished knitting projects and I'm determined to finish them. Thank you x
I’d swap my WIP’s for yours any day. Do luv the last 2, especially the blanket but my “don’t buy any more yarn” rule is still in place. Mostly project bags with yarn and pattern but a box full of embroidery kits also ready to go, mostly Nicki franklin and M.R.S. Embroidery then a needlepoint rug I started 30 years ago, 11 of 12 blocks finished but then there’s the border!! I am feeling guilty and hope I finish it all b4 I croak 😫 but you are inspiring me to get cracking’ yet once again! Can’t wait to see the blanket finished 💜
I’m hoping that having done this video will spur me on so that I will be able to show the finished things (or nicely organised things!) in a couple of months ! J x
Jane, not only do we have the Heirloom Quilt cardi and a love of Glorious Knitting in common, but I also have the blouse that you are wearing; one of my favourites. Thanks for the mention, I really appreciate it. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the silk waistcoat finished and on; think it will be wonderful xxxx
I have multiple half finished projects. And yesterday I decided to have a creative day. It feels that it was much needed and I really enjoyed myself. I need to try and have a day to myself every week, rather than using ally time tidying and sorting (and never winning - it's those half finished projects I'm reluctant to put away).
It’s so easy to spend all your time sorting isn’t it. I’m sitting here with my coffee and putting off heading down to film a video (about dyeing with a fungi that a friend has given me) simply because I know there is some sorting of projects to do before I can clear the table and set up the stove and pan!
Another lovely video Jane - thank you. I also have the Glorious Knitting book and although I haven't made anything out of it, I sometimes have a flick through as I love Kaffe's designs. I also have a few of his tapestry books and I've made a couple of cushions from the patterns included in the books - they were a joy to complete. Looking at your WIPs has reminded me of a cabled knitted cushion cover I put away half finished - I'm going to get that out today and start working on it. I'm looking forward to seeing the silk waistcoat as it's such an unusual design and the yarn colours you've chosen are gorgeous x.
Thank you. He really changed the whole knitting experience for me - forever grateful for his designs and to have been at a couple of mini workshops when I was in my late teens.
Oh Jane, I have a ridiculous number of knitting projects on the go!! I don’t know why I don’t finish things before I cast something else on!! My Mum used to do lots of knitting when I was small and she says she would always finish the one thing she was knitting before she moved onto the next. I do wish I was more like her because I can feel terrible guilt and overwhelm when I find another unfinished thing in the cupboard. And knitting isn’t my only vice hahaha because I spin, weave, sew, garden…..😳😳 I adore your blanket, the colours are wonderful. Lucky husband. Have a wonderful time in Croatia. My eldest son and girlfriend are off there in a couple of weeks too.x
Thank you. I was better when my daughters were small in case they grew out of whatever I was knitting (& things were smaller too) but now I’m bad (with embroidery too!). I’m really looking forward to sea swimming and sunshine. X
Hiya beautiful lady, I’m knitting an aquarium sea type scape pram blanket for my big daughter who is expecting her first baby in four weeks. I started it in June but with the warmer weather it felt really difficult to knit with super wash wool. I finished the background two days ago and started on knitting the details directly on the knitting. So now it’s smaller I will just go with it and knit the fish etc. lovely video, happy Friday ❤️☀️❤️
Just back from a wonderful visit to Scotland and trying to catch up on RUclips videos. Although I’m not a knitter, I do cross stitch samplers. I have six WIPS that get regular attention. I’ve only ever abandoned one, which I wasn’t enjoying. Life’s too short. Work on what you love!
Your cardigan colours just sing and are so beautiful and I love your blanket. You should always have at least one mistake in your project, the saying goes:"only Allah is perfect". 4 Wip's is really not a lot and your waist coat is going to be stunning I am sure, the yarn and colours look wonderful. I am still looking for the perfect something to knit with my first natural dyed wool and hope to find it soon as I am really itching to get started. Have a lovely weekend xx
@@snapdragonlife Some are just lying around to be picked up randomly :) I usually have one commission, one garment for myself or husband and an easy 'no brainer' as TV knitting. I also have one that I can't bring myself to finish as it has dog hairs on it from my beloved Jack Russell called Max who passed over the rainbow three years ago. I know it sounds really soppy, but I keep him close by not finishing and leaving the hairs in situ.
Oh I do hope we see these projects when completed . I’m working on the Heirloom Quilt Cardigan. I’m knitting my squares up first…I’ve done ten so far. I’m quite anxious about joining the squares neatly. It’s been put aside while I knit on a jumper… hopefully finished by the time the weather warms up,
All your projects are beautifull. But I particularly love the colours and patterning of your garden blanket. I would enjoy a new blanket for the end of my bed - the one I have at the moment is sunshine yellow and white and I am wanting softer colours these days.. But would have to purchase a readymade one as my Gran tried to teach me to knit a number of times and it never stuck. I still have my one and only knitting project tucked away somewhere. Must finish it so someone can use it. The wool is too beautifull to discard.
As I get older my knitting & spinning projects become smaller and more doable increasing the likelihood that I will finish them. I love making pocket dolls, gnomes, hats & mittens. But that’s only part of the stash, as I love watercolor, botanical dyeing, creating my own line of yarn, clay, embroidery and so much more! It’s a good problem to have❣️ You are a joy, Jane❣️💄🧶🌼🌸🦋🌱🏴
I am binge watching your videos and absolutely loving them, thankyou so much. May I ask you a personal question, please feel free to ignore! Where did you buy you lovely (linen?) pinafores? I love them so much! Thankyou Jane. Xx
Thank you Carolyn - they are from the brand Toast. I bought one new for my daughter’s graduation and then searched for the others on Vinted/Ebay. They are perfect as a work ‘uniform’ as I can layer them up.
Personally , l like to have several projects on the go but l do finish things as l would feel very frustrated if l didn’t complete projects….Just the way l create….
I notice as I get older I’m knitting & spinning for smaller projects that will have a greater chance of reaching completion! Gnomes, shawls, mittens & hats, etc. You are a joy, Jane❣️ 💄🌱🦋🌸🌼🌾🧶🪡🧵
Jane when you say you are frogging it does that mean unraveling or labelling & putting it in a project bag ? I feel much better about all my bags of unfinished projects now & hope to get inspired to battle my way into the craft room & have a sort out whilst I am home alone for 3 wks as John & Kate have a father daughter Motorhome trip to Bavaria to see the cows coming down from the high pasture to winter quarters! A lovely celebration we have done many times previously !
I'm afraid my mother breaks your record, I have a bag of a neat twin-set in powder blue, perhaps 3/4 done, of hers from the early 1960s! (She began studies and work around then, with 2 young children afoot.) I couldn't finish it - who would wear it now? Do I unravel it? Cut it up for a blanket? And I still have the baby suit I began knitting having just given birth to my 1st child, thinking all this time at home feeding my baby, lots of time to knit! One lives and learns...
Looking forward to seeing the finished project #1.

I shall keep my fingers crossed for you. I’m very bad at looking at started things and not finding them nearly as alluring as new ones 😂😂😂

Can’t wait to hear more about your holiday. We just returned from Croatia and it was magical - my favorite places were Hvar Island and Korcula.
Thanks Melinda. Croatia is such a beautiful country and the Croatian people so welcoming. This will be the 5th time we have been to Hvar - living very simply in a hut by the sea. X

I never learnt to knit but have loved seeing your projects The colours are wonderful

Lurve that vest very much looking forward to seeing it. Thanks ❤
Isn’t it unusual Treeza? The woman who knitted the green one has clinched in the neckline a little with ribbon which I think is a lovely idea.

Great to see your works in progress today. It has galvanised me to finish my WIPs so I can start any one of the projects you shared with us today 😄
Isn’t that always the issue - every time I browse online I seem to see more and more wonderful patterns that set my fingers twitching 😂
That huge garden blanket is amazing!
Thank you. I’m going to dye some more wool for it this weekend. X

I love your blanket! I should dig through my yarn basket and give this a try!
It would be the perfect way of using up LOTS of small amounts of yarn. X

It is so difficult to know what to do! And yes we live and learn …..
I have so many half done quilts in boxes because they were tidied away for company….
It is fatal Lynda - once tidied they ‘disappear’. X
