I’m watching this drinking coffee and eating toast in bed. I don’t get the trend of getting up at 5.30 am as if it’s a moral imperative. I’m just thankful that I’m not at an office desk at 7.30 am anymore.

What a lovely honest video Jane. My routine is to make two cups of tea. One I take up to my husband, and the other accompanies me on a walk around my tiny walled garden, deadheading the odd geranium and seeing what needs a bit of encouragement. I then sit on my sofa and do a few minutes stitching of whatever my current project is. I find that returning to two of my passions, gardening and stitching, reminds me of the joys to be found in the everyday. Thank you as always for sharing.

I do so appreciate you. For starters, I can actually LISTEN to you, whereas I cannot listen to most people talking b/c they talk so fast. And I can relate to everything you're saying. So thank you; I have a sense that you represent a great many of us. My morning routine begins with the practice of staring out the window while I sip my first cup of coffee - well, after I've fed the cat, of course...

Good morning Jane, I have also slow morning routine.
I have got some health problems as heartfailure, POTS, Fibromyalgia and diabetes type-2.
When I wake up I'm HUNGRY!! My body screams FOOD.
I start my mornings in my bed which I can raise the headside and sit comfortably in 😊.
I take a large bowl of Greek yoghurt with a large amount of frozen wild blueberries (started with blueberry 6 years ago). I also make me a good amount of coffee... my 2 dogs sleeps in my big bed. My two cats walks in and out depending of the weather condition.
I sit and view youtube videos like yours, calm videos.. and it takes about 1,5 hour until I feel my body has woken up....
I walk around the kitchen and take my morning medicine, fix a little in my messy kitchen, empty the dishwasher, fill it with some new dirty dishes that have been waiting to be placed. I get dressed and drink a lot of water, then we go for a dog walk and usually one of the cats also comes along. When we come home the dogs get their food. I make me a cup of coffee and some "knäckebröd"/hard bread.. then the clock is about 11 am 😂.
    Love your videos

Jane this was lovely to watch. I'm a bright pink lipstick person and have been I think since I was about 18. I feel not me without it.
My morning routine is that Gerry brings me my cup of tea and I read a few pages of whatever book I'm reading and then I get up and wander and potter for about an hour. Picking flowers in my slippers and dressing gown. Moving things around (I do this a lot). Thinking about what I'll cook for dinner . And wandering the garden. This can easily take an hour or so .And then I get dressed. Sounds busy but is actually a very gentle start to my day x

Hi Jane thank you for this lovely calm video. My morning routine is by necessity calm slow paced and nourishes my soul spirit and body. I am grateful to have learned after much struggle to accept my changing health and value myself and my body even with all its current limitations. Instead of mentally cursing myself or weeping because I can no longer leap out of bed hit the ground running and power through a morning routine which included gym, swimming, organising my own household and housecleaning, care of elderly parents in their house a long and arduous commute all before starting my workday in a challenging profession, my chronic health issues mean a slow gentle easing into the day is all I can cope with. It has taken a while and has involved a steep learning curve for me but I have learned to respect and value my body mind and spirit to the point where they are the number one focus for my intention and strength and energy. I prioritise prayer as its the closest I get to meditation, fresh air and early morning light on the patio, fun with our springer spaniel in our large garden, and a cup of tea. Take good care of yourself Jane and God bless you, Vera in Northern Ireland ❤

I have a rare auto-immune disease called myasthenia gravis (plus other things that affect my mobility) and am definitely not a morning person either. I get my second wind at about 10pm and so by the time I should really go to bed, I am wide awake and my brain won’t rest. I too, try to appreciate the small things every day and recover in my own time. Any activity knocks me out for several days …. but it is what it is. I’m creative too (mostly sewing), but I procrastinate far too much. I guess I really need to get some sort of routine, but the fatigue gets me …. I will have to work on that. I am a morning person at heart and love getting up around 6ish when the house is quiet. I make my first cup of tea and then I go outside (weather permitting) and listen to the birds or do a little knitting. After my tea I usually go for a power walk (if I don't do it then, I won't do it) and after that I am ready to tackle anything. I nearly always wear make-up, even if it is just lipstick (shades of pink), as it makes me feel good and happy. You look fab with your red lipstick, goes with your new hair and glasses 🥰 Happy weekend dear Jane xx

We all have to find what works for us in the morning - if you have to force yourself to do it maybe it’s not for you or you need to adapt it to suit. Now retired after decades of pushing my limits for the military and defense department. Struggling with chronic pain and ADD that is NOT improving with age. 😡I’m a lark & my best mornings begin with a stretch in bed & a slow hobble to the bathroom where I take ADHD & pain medication. I make my coffee & let the dog out while everyone is still sleeping. I take a short wander about the garden (often in bare feet), & then the dog & I go back to bed, where she has a treat & I my coffee while I wait for medication to kick in, organizing my day in my head, checking the news or whatever, perhaps even doing some art. If I’m extra ambitious in the self-care dept I take a cold shower before dressing. It gives me enormous pain relief & is very focusing. 😂

I loved this video, Jane! It gave me such a happy, cozy feeling while watching it.
I am recently retired but I have kept the same morning routine I had when I was working, which is: wake up & out of bed, get basic hygiene activities done, dress, make the bed while the tea kettle is heating up, make a mug of tea, do a quick (10 minute-ish) Spanish lesson on the Duolingo app (which I've been doing faithfully for over 1,600 consecutive days, and my Spanish is still awful, but it's slowly improving!), then write 3-ish pages in my journal. This entire routine takes me about an hour. Writing in my journal is my quiet, reflective time where I think about what is happening in my life and what my plans are. I've been keeping a journal for many years and if I miss a day I feel very out of sorts. I do not have journal prompts or anything like that; it's just thinking on paper, basically. I find it very helpful.
Those dahlias on your table are incredible! I'm so glad you make videos like these! Blessed be!

I too love slow mornings, it’s a real treat to allow your body clock decide when you start the day!
If I’m not looking after my grand children or visiting my mother I start the day with a swim class in our local pool then home for a late breakfast and coffee with my darling ❤
I also think putting on your lippy everyday helps you feel more positive. I feel a bit more put together, so to speak.
Love your dahlias, we are in late winter here in NZ so I’m looking forward to mine flowering this summer.

So refreshing to sit with you and hear your honesty. I love your sense of style & especially the dahlias! My morning routine is to 1. Drink 1/2 lemon juiced in a cup of water with 1/4 tsn of bicarb soda (refreshing). Do 15 mins of wakeup yoga stretching. Make a coffee & sit to listen to Lectio 365 Bible devotion app. Then pray. I have hashimotos thyroiditis, so can relate somewhat to your comments about chronic illness too. xo

Hi Jane. Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it. Its always interesting to hear about how others cope with health issues positively. How did you manage when your children were young? Your red lipstick looks great and the thinking behind it interesting. I brought myself a ridiculously expensive lipstick for Mothers day this year. Not something Ive done before. Its a bright pink (for me). I appreciate its luxuriousness and cheeryness whenever I wear it and am thankfull to have it. Maybe its a lift as a small moment of thankfulness in the day. The store assistant said the same thing - in times of hardship lipstick sales go up. I looked at the name of the lipstick I brought and it is 'Live' - which seemed appropriate and made me smile.

    • @snapdragonlife
      @snapdragonlife  Месяц назад +4

When my children were young - and they were maybe 6 and 8 when I became ill, and while treatment was being managed I was much more erratically exhausted than I am today. I therefore relied on a lot of good fortune and friends. The school bus picked them up from the gate and they got themselves pretty much up, fed and dressed, with my friends helping with plaiting their hair in the playground when needed! Everything that could be was organised the night before. I used to worry that they had had to do too much caring when young but now I realise we don’t exactly choose our situations and my daughters have grown up to be incredibly positive, resilient and competent young women. And I also think it’s fair to say we didn’t have very exacting standards. X

I stopped wearing makeup when I got fibromyalgia but I think I need a lipstick 😊. Your morning routine sounds lovely . Mine starts with a cup of tea my partner brings me and cat cuddles! My best days are when I can potter first but my routines change with daily life, work and grandchildren coming! My best start are the days when I can watch the breeze gently blow the curtain and I can sit back and practice some self care with Angelic reiki and breath work followed by a potter round the garden with more tea before any activity like horse/dog care. My body takes time to wake up too.

I find it really difficult to get out of bed, shower and get started on my day. I was diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases about 14 years ago. As I have gotten older I find I am better if I “vegetate” in quiet, scrolling on RUclips for about 2 hours. Then I get ready and begin my day. I often need a nap in the late afternoon to keep me going until bedtime. But this routine allows me to be at least somewhat productive for a few hours each day. The biggest risk is overdoing it one day and then being completely exhausted and unable to do anything for several days.

my morning routine starts by having a coffee with med's in the garden (weather permitting) 'poop patrolling the garden' while the kettles on , then feeding my hens . I then come inside and get to work on my art, painting / drawing, before work. My work involves working with people within a care facility with spinal injuries, this enables me to be thankful for friendships, appreciative of my health and grateful for having a job I love. hello. first time seeing your vlog last week. appreciate your pace and content share. thank you! my morning routines are slow too (age 57) . . . sitting with my 2 dogs and cat in the family room watching birds each morning. a huge difference from my once upon a time roll out of bed and out the door to work as full time teacher in the morning only to flop back to bed by 9 pm and sleep to start over again 6 a.m. next day . . . I need my sleep and now slow quiet mornings with my cuppa tea. by 10 I'm ready to take on morning chores, then sit with my husband for lunch at noon. September, I'll change my day routine up a bit (ready to roll 9:00 a.m.) to pace myself as full time artist in my studio. cheers!

I’m not much of a routine person in general, but my mornings are definitely slow. If I can persuade anyone to bring me a cup of tea in bed that’s my favourite way to start the day, some reading, maybe some journaling, maybe some pointless scrolling or listening to the news. I am not a lipstick person, I have some sort of imposter syndrome which means whenever I apply lippie I feel as though I’m dressing up as my Mum 😂 One day maybe, but in the meantime I’m never without a spritz of perfume which makes me feel properly dressed.

A lovely morning routine Jane - no smoothie or yoga at dawn on a mountain top! You made me laugh so many times. I get up 8.30 - 9ish to feed cats & go back to bed with a big cup of tea where at least one cat then joins me (she can't cope with the rest of her day without a morning cuddle in the bedroom & I have to be in the bed)! So I am a late starter like you & enjoy it. I would love (I think), to be like Beth Kempton & be able to get up by dawn & enjoy the sunrise, but I'm not sure I'll ever manage it - too much of a night owl through the years. For the moment I'm enjoying the peace & quiet of easy mornings celebrating having now retired.

My 51 year old morning routine involves opening my eyes at around 5am and then racing downstairs for a wee before the dogs jump on me. (My next house WILL have an upstairs bathroom!) then I spend the next two hours annoyed that we have a downstairs bathroom because I just woke myself all the way up getting to it 😆, So I end up doing my work admin (I’m a metalsmith, creator) Then I feed the animals me and the husband, and I open my workshop spending the day wondering why I’m so so tired 😄 I need a better morning routine! (And an upstairs bathroom! 😉)

Thank you for this. I have settled into a slow routine in the mornings recently. I often wake in the wee hours due to my chronic condition, but have found that simply settling in my reclining chair after a few gentle stretches really helps. I’ll have a flask of hot water that so that I can refresh my favourite mug and will either look at the lightening sky (my chair is in a conservatory) or listen to an audio book. So grateful for the library service using BorrowBox so no cost involved. When i eventually do get up and washed and dressed, I can feel almost human again. Take care

Maybe people who can't do all the things in a popular 'morning routine' wanted to see what a morning routine would look like for someone with a chronic illness. I am no good at mornings, despite my efforts. I can hardly wake up. But when i do, i grab some water and go out on the deck to get some sun and do some gentle movements - about 10 minutes. At least, for the last 2 days. I really have felt much better, so I intend to continue!

Dear Jane, this video is so life- giving, affirming and helpful to me….so much so that I have to leave a comment before it’s over so I don’t forget what I want to say and as it is I will cut it very short so I don’t bore people. I also have a chronic illness or several and much pain. My sleep is only a few hours a night for several reasons. The meds I’m on only help a bit but what is one to do…. ? Cry about it all or try to accept it all. I have a physically disabled precious, ( 45 years old) kind daughter who has had over 30 surgeries and now has terminal cancer. I can hardly type this….. but yet getting back to your videos that I just discovered: they are real, unpretentious, artistic and kind. They are a departure from the “ perfect” homemakers and mother’s who would make me feel like a failure if I didn’t know better. I know God loves me no matter what so that helps get me through. Hi again Jane, Debbie here from SW Florida. I am finding more and more as I no longer have a “JOB” that I feel so much better when I write things I want to accomplish down in a tablet early in the week. I am one of those human beings that starts to feel anxious towards the end of the day when I feel I haven’t done anything/not enough of anything and I won’t get that day back, it was wasted. In looking a my list 0:23 of “wants and needs” early in my day, I feel purposeful. I tend to check them off as I go along, by the end of the afternoon I add everything else I did that day and that makes me feel happy. Weird huh. By the way nothing productive happens after 5, this girl is mentally exhausted. You question about our morning routines, well mine starts out with a nice hot cup of coffee my wonderful husband has ready for me to just press the button. I wake up, when I wake up, sometimes 5 sometimes 7, 8 or perish the thought nine, for me the earlier the better. The push for me to get out of bed is knowing it’s time for coffee 😊 so, it’s coffee, NY Times puzzles on my phone, another coffee and praying the rosary 📿 guided by the 28 minute rosary on the Relevant Radio app. Praying the rosary is my meditation, now I am ready for my day. And, a little lipstick 💄 always makes things all bettter 😊
