- Last week RUclips showed my Friday film to fifty times as many people as normal and a LOT more people came along to watch, like and comment. Thank you to everyone who watched, new subscribers and especially those who have been here from the beginning.
It did make me realise that I should probably introduce myself properly - and show my very wiggly career path, full of dashed dreams and things that went wrong, which explains quite how I ended up here.
From Art Gallery Curator, to Flower Farmer, to high powered business owner, to trashing all that, starting again and encouraging people to foster their creativity, to turn to the natural world and to create lives that they love.

I love you and your studio club. My life is very connected to nature and although I already follow a path with intention setting and creativity I find you calming and inspiring and I enjoy the projects and growing inspiration. I ran a plant nursery that was extremely demanding physically and now a small soap and skincare business Sea Thrift but I am constantly reviewing is this taking over too much as like you I have chronic fatigue illness. You are like a friend many miles away and I value your positivity and creativity .Your a gem ❤🌹 🧵 xx

Hooray for 50 thousand views!!!! I changed from a high octane marketing/PR job in IT to working with Yarn when we moved to Wales and have never looked back. I love everything about my job as I can set my own pace and do as much or as little as I want, which at almost 67 is exactly what I want to do. Your studio letters are one of the joyous things of my week, thank you Jane xx

Jane you’ve inspired me! Having known you through those crazy notonthehighstreet days (I’ll never forget our drunken tuk tuk home with me with a severely bashed up knee!) the burnout resonates so much. I too suffered burnout and began too hate creating the things that used to bring me joy. The last 5 or 6 years have been a slow steer in the right direction and I feel I’m nearly there. Also with an auto immune disease which hinders things slightly. Well done for being a middle aged inspirational creator on RUclips! Must dust my camera off, truly inspirational you are. Big love xx

Loved this. The reason why I started a RUclips channel again for the same reason I want to see more women our age and so I feel I need to be one of them. Loved your history and went a couple of times “wow” but health, man, it’s something that can catch up on you.

Thank you for your introduction. I knew bits and pieces of your backstory - now I know the whole and can get a better picture of it. The parts that resonated with me are a) the burnout thing - hating what your are doing although you worked hard to get there b ) chronic condition - I have one although it’s different and c) recently, your Naples month and the romance and history of Europe, and d) middle-aged woman - although I’m a little older - not wanting to look older or younger but being my current, vibrant self. You give me hope that I can also address this stage of my life as effectively as you are doing.

Brilliant! I am looking forward to your weekly posts.... I was a florist in California out of my home/garage for 12 years and then worked for a florist for two years. I have always gardened. I live in California so I can grow many things but Roses are my favorites. I lived in a very cold winter climate for 17 years( until my divorce in 2017) and grew lots of perennials there. My garden here is quite small but I do fit lots in. 😅. I do hand sewing.... Alabama Chanin clothing and Sue Spargo wool quilts but have started watercoloring again..... I am struggling to paint a bit looser....I did interior renderings in college for my interior architecture degree so being ' loose' is a new skill for me. I follow two painters in the UK...one in Edinburgh and one in Devon who help me. You sound so inspiring and self knowledgeable (is that a word?). I am looking forward to hearing your wisdom. I am so glad You Tube sent you to my feed. ❤

I found by accident your talk about Naples. I just love how that conversation went across the page and through time at a pace I could stay with. I migrated to o Australia from the UK in 1980’s when everything seem d possible and exciting. Work and study and changes in direction along the way. Do you have a greenhouse poly tunnel to grow your cut flowers? I try to grow zinnias every summer and the leaves get this sage green mold, as I live in a damp environment. Any advice?
I can’t really grow zinnias here as we are too cold and damp. I have been given some of the Floret Originals zinnia seeds and shall be trying to grow them in a polytunnel. X
You have a fritillaria meleagris
in a vase! I thought that if you picked them, the bulb would produce nothing the next year. Is that true? 😻
I haven’t found that at all - though they do grow extremely well here - normally I cut so that there are leaves left, but this particular one was a casualty of digging out a clump for a friend who was struggling to get them to grow from corms. X

Just wondering if you would be selling plants for solar dyeing? Thanks for your help.
Hi Catherine. Do you mean for setting up solar dye jars? I’ll be mainly selling dried dye ‘stuff’ - leaves, flowers, pressed flowers. All of which can be used in solar dyeing but it is more usual to use fresh plants.
The actual plants themselves I’m unlikely to sell, though there is the possibility that I might take a few to a pop up market at Fodder and Farm over the summer if I have excess. That is at Port of Menteith, near Aberfoyle.

If you will be attending a market out at Port of Monteith it would be lovely to come and see what you have on your stall. I am from Argyll where I can get plenty of the wild plants but don’t have much space for growing a lot of plants for dyeing. Thanks for your help Jane.

I don't think 50 is middle aged. Still youngish. 70's is middle aged.
I'm not sure why they call a single storey house a bungalow. Most houses in Australia are single storey leading to 'urban spread.' Only people who fancy themselves live in/build two storey houses..
Thank you. I’m very happy with the optimistic lifespan! I think originally Bungalow was derived from the Hindi word for “from Bengal” where single story workers buildings were common and distinct from ‘cottages’. Though actually the Royal Mail bizarrely rechristened our house as a cottage sometime about 2012, It is now ‘Sunnyside Cottage’ on all official papers, despite being neither sunny nor a cottage. J x
