i’m glad that someone reviewed this game with no nostalgia bias. based on how people who had played the game when it released talked about it, i thought it would have been amazing. i still like it, but it has many flaws

Was there for LP2's launch, and fondly recall a borderline impossible story to dig up nowadays on how Capcom made some kind of "ice block edition" where the game case was frozen within a giant block of ice for the individual to thaw out. Maybe it was an elaborate hoax story, maybe Capcom did it? It seemed too onbrand for them and their wild ways lmao Just finally completed Extreme mode for the first time ever, after losing save data of my old gear. Hearing you tell all about the grenade shooting, grapple shifting after clinging to a wall... Man, those would’ve helped SO MUCH on chapter 5😅 LOVE this video!

I played this back when it released and still play the 3rd gen. This was the first game that from soft decided it was easier to make the player character handicapped than actually tune the enemies to make the game challenging. This philosophy hasn't changed since.

Very detailed guide. The most important thing for me in your guide are your time stamps and the exact parts for easy search and references. I don't have to comb through everything if I'm focusing on just the missing parts. I can always come back for logs later because they're in every sections mentioned, so great job for the perfect organization. It's been very helpful. Love!

My only thoughts are “I want more” Story was the bomb. I felt for so many characters, never even saw a single face throughout the entire game

I wasn't a fan of the dumbing down and cheese shields is AC 4 but what i hated even nore was the weight on the parts didn't matter you connected them they didn't match up. The best looking more expensive but heavier parts would miraculously become half as light as super light legs. I largely blame Sega for the stupidity of that game. Its easy to diversify on a game where a blind 12 year old can build a mech. Game has to be more than eye candy. AC 5 was slowed down to offset the higher brain function diffeciency of 4.

You can change control layout in game in the first game, and in emulator can be remapped to analog

If you cmbine Tfix mod with HD mod (they work together with no extra twesks), then the game will look even better and have extra stuff like vegetation and spiderwebs.

I liked the more gritty and rugged story of oldgen, mostly 3rd gen AC. It felt more like you're a mercenary who gets hired to shoot up a facility, tie up loose ends, survey an area, dispose of interruptions... It feels more natural as a mercenary because you were hired to do something they couldn't bother to do. Or they wanted you to go in and find out what happens. You're a disposable asset through and through. AC6 was my entry into AC, but I decided I would start with the older games first. It felt more like "I'm doing this to get paid" rather than "I'm doing this because my actions can affect the consequences", cuz usually the corpos take the consequences of your actions. You were just hired to do the dirty work, and they take the brunt of it.

Just a FYI for those interested, there's a patch now for this game (and the other AC games) to play manual fights with full dual analog control on emulators or Vita, including control of vertical camera (which in this game was automatic)

ACVI is such a breath of fresh air for a series that laid dormant for so long. It's polished, it's fun, it makes you feel like a badass. It's not perfect, the lack of parts and missing weapon types from previous games is a bit of a letdown and I wish raytracing wasn't limited to just the garage. I'd also love to see more optional missions or bonus objectives in either the pseudo-sequel or a new numbered entry. The sense of scale in AC's could also be a bit better. Have some small, nimble suits but also be able to craft a lumbering behemoth that actually needs all those massive doors that are scattered around the game. I wouldn't mind if they amped the destruction up to match something like the MechWarrior series, just being able to blow through whole buildings during a huge battle until a small city is reduced to rubble to really showcase how destructive the ACs really are to the environment.

It DOES suck to get to run, but every minute getting this game working on steam deck was worth it.

I loved 5 and verdict day. But I loved silent line and AC3 the most. My favorite series of all time. So much time as a kid did these games capture my imagination

I also replayed the 5th recently, and it's depressingly frustrating just how much of it relied on multiplayer to the point of sacrificing every other aspect. Just trying to do the order side missions really highlights the abundance of copy/paste going on to pad the single player; same handful of enemies spammed everywhere, there's only a handful of different maps, and all the enemy ACs fall into a few different archetypes. The game design shift to make the 5th generation to be hyper-realistic compared to the previous games is like a crashtest dummy smacking into a brickwall at neckbreaking velocity.

Armored Core 4 and 4A might be my favorites even after 6

Armored core 6 does have bangers. BUT DAMN THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR AS MEMORABLE. All the ones i enjoyed most like "rough and decent" are good because they are reminiscent of older tracks with unique instrumentation. we need more guitar, synths, piano, etc.
