2:27 - That's exactly why the sword is not very wieldy in this game. It was nerfed on purpose because the devs didn't want players hacking their way through everything with the same instincts they picked up from other first-person games at the time. There's an old beta video on RUclips where the sword combat was more advanced and more fun-looking to use, Garrett uses more attack animations but I can see the rationale behind not wanting players to rely too much on the sword. I even managed to create my own a long time ago, they aren't great, but the game's attack pacing comes directly from the animations themselves and the collision frames that enable an immediate follow-up once a weapon lands a hit. 2:42 - You can simply drop keys on a table and come back for them later when they're needed, same with scrolls. Despite having an unlimited carrying capacity, it makes sense to leave things you don't need at the moment behind someplace that you can come back to. Also great for teaching navigation and logistics. 10:34 - I got news for you, buddy. Zombies are a gold mine for emergent and unpredictable behavior. Zombies have personalities, and some are given unique commands and parameters. Mostly what I discover comes from saving and reloading the game. The zombies can begin to act strangely or almost possessed, like there's a soul in them upon loading a save. Sometimes they become paranoid, some ultra-aggressive, some just stare at you and do nothing, some go completely mute, others kinda just stand there in oblivion, not doing anything. Someone once said that Satan scripted the AI for zombies, and I can see why. They are my favorite AI in the game because they have complex and unpredictable behavior. I recommend studying them carefully.
Well this is a neat surprise Thief is the kind of game they just don't make anymore, and not just because the entire genre of stealth games are dead and buried Thief 2 is widely regarded as "the best one", so there's that for you to look forward to
homeboy just keeps covering a random assortment of my favorite games throughout the years. I would recommend the GOG versions over the Steam versions of Thief and Thief 2 though
I'm glad you enjoyed thief as much as I did! I've since finished Thief 2 and can say that just about every level is on par with some of the best ones from the first game. Without getting into spoilers I will also say the ending of the game is handled a lot better and much more suited to Garrett's skillset than just fighting monkey men and climbing a rope

i’m glad that someone reviewed this game with no nostalgia bias. based on how people who had played the game when it released talked about it, i thought it would have been amazing. i still like it, but it has many flaws
If you cmbine Tfix mod with HD mod (they work together with no extra twesks), then the game will look even better and have extra stuff like vegetation and spiderwebs.
Yea, I found Thief 2 way more enjoyable. In T1 there's only 6 missions out of 16 or so, that involve humans and regular heists. Most of the game is undead or weird Constantine stuff, or whatever else, and I didn't dig any of that. Unlike T2, which I found satisfying all the way through. I kinda hate the robots, though. They're too loud and annoying. They never freaking shut up. Fortunately they're not everywhere. :) Gloomwood didn't really pull me in, tbh. Also because it had save points, which I really can't stand. I heard they changed that recently, but it doesn't matter. Doesn't seem like my cup of tea anyway.
RUclips algorithm and established audience I guess. This is a problem I saw happening to some other channels, were if you get established as a Armored Core only channel, that's what your audience will ever want from you and you may struggle to get out of that loop. I'd say keep at it, mixing AC videos with other games, even if the results are discouraging at first, you might get a channel audience that will slowly, over time, get interested in other content, but hey, I'm hardly an expert on this.... I just happened to find this channel with the hype of AC6, and I just happen to really like Thief, tried it only a few years ago too and it really opened my eyes about sound, immersion, and how objective markers taffin suck in games if not used properly. Also the proper way to play the thieves guild mission IS TO SKIP IT! ITS HORRIBLE AND I WANT IT REMOVED FROM THE GAME.
A day later but i loved watching your first experience in this game! I played through it myself for the first time a year ago and fell in love, i'm looking forward to doing Thief 2 as well, so glad you enjoyed it!

only issue so far is the ending, not nescesseraly rushed or anything, but confunsing. then again i'm playing gold edition and for some reason cutscenes do not work.

Thief is definitely one of those games that was amazing for its time. Its a little rough around the edges these days but still a fun game to re-visit.
Is there really a better stealth game even all these years later? Thief 1 and 2 are still miles ahead in terms of sound and level design.
