- Gaming Pastime reviews Thief II: The Metal Age for PC.
Developed by Looking Glass Studios and published by Eidos Interactive, Thief II: The Metal Age was released for PC in March, 2000. Thief II: The Metal Age gives you more of the same great gameplay and with all the annoying stuff stripped out. It's a far better experience.

this game holds a special place in my heart. it got me hooked on stealth games and medieval fantasy books. also that pagan level gave me nightmares lol
Don't forget about Thief 2 X: Shadows of the Metal Age. It's a free unofficial expansion pack with a different character and story made by fans for the fans. The first thief games are one of my favorite games ever and when I replay them every couple of years or so, I always play that one as well!
Thief 2X is amazing! It evens adds at least one game mechanic of its own (the elemental crystal that changes arrow behavior, notably) that spices things up. Has some really interesting and fun locations to explore too, some of which are easily comparable to T2’s best offerings.
Newbie mistake at 4:00 - run towards the archer, then raise your blackjack/sword when right next to them. Rather than raise your blackjack/sword prematurely, giving them time to skewer you with a few arrows while you creep painfully slowly towards them.
Thief community is one of the best. Full of dedicated beautiful players.
I use to work at CompUSA when this came out. We use to go out on the sales floor, grab a game, copy it, photocopy the Serial Number, then we would shrink wrap it and put it back on the shelf. All in a days work. So I had this game, and all games of this era. This game was so fun. I loved it. Thanks for the nostalgia video.
So you basically stole the game
@@waffle8364 So you're basically crying about it 24 years later
Sabotage at Soulforge is a brilliant level. I initially didn't like it. At subsequent playthroughs it became one of my favorites. Because the game tests everything you learned from prior missions. Its what a final level should be. It pushes the player to their limit, ensuring it only allows those who mastered the game design to accomplish it. That, and the atmosphere is phenomenal.
I would like to see a Splinter Cell franchise review
Some channels have some decent Splinter Cell retrospectives...
None in particular.
*nightvision goggle sound*
SC reviews are coming.
Some of the best map design ever, it doesn't exist in our modern age.
Very true! It’s just a shame that some missions re-use environments and feel a bit rushed in contrast to the more lavishly crafted levels.
Check out Dishonored if you haven’t. It’s no Thief, but the level design is definitely there, especially in the sequel
I literally finished Thief DS last Friday morning hours before you uploaded the first Thief review. This also happened with Painkiller and God of War reviews. It’s like we’re in sync or something.
Always thought this one was vastly superior to the first game, map layouts that actually made sense and could be figured out in your mind, actually useful maps, feeling like a real thief and none of the try hard supernatural stuff coming in to distract from that, it really delivered what was on the front of the box.
Best game ever.
The first 2 Thief games are treasures!
5:09 A NEW breed of stealth!
My least fav of the game is going back for the masks, I tread through it the first time and thought I was done and when I found out I have to go back and my response was oh nooooo (They should of had undiscovered under ground or basement levels in my opinion)! I didn't like the Karas voice, even though I knew Russel done it and the sound got on my nerves. I wasn't 100 perfect in favor of going back to the lost city, but I ended up liking it.
Too bad they killed off Victoria, she was a good love interest for Garret, she could been part of another game where she is the main character or Garret finding out a way to bring her back and all this could be a fan mission game too?
Masks would’ve been better if they just either merged the objectives of both missions together to form one or just scrap Casing and keep Masks. Masks is actually my favorite mansion mission in the series after The Sword from the first game. I love the haunted library and that little subplot.
@@TheBurning1981great idea! yes, the library haunts was cool!
It will be so nice to get a new thief game
The goat, THE GOAT. God this one was so good
I loved the horror atmosphere of the first game this is why the second one was a meh for me
Don't forget there's literally thousands of fan made maps, the worst of which are of a quality equal to the main game, the best of which are beyond sublime.
The community is still making maps to this day, 23 years on from release. And since the source code was released, the community revamped the engine and added all sorts of modern lighting effects and much more.
If I ruled the universe I would continue - by all means - this great series of games, but alas.
So I revisited Thief 1 & 2
For all the jank 1 has, its story is superior. Thief 2 missions are quite forgettable
