Metal Gear Mk II is a call back to Snatcher. In fact there is a level in Meal Gear 4 where the whole level is a call back to Snatcher. Where you are in a disguise that looks like the main character in Snatcher "Gillian Seed" Long story short, Snatcher for the Sega CD rules.

Most importantly, I had fun. and my sense of fun makes me want to play God Hand Again.
MGS4 was released unfinished, rushed to boost PS3 sales after it's lackluster launch, that's why there is so little gameplay. It was not the initial intention. You are right, it is a travesty that such great gameplay was wasted. MGS4's gunplay was never topped.
@@idakev Why are you talking about things you know nothing about? MGS4 was released unfinished, even back before it released there were rumors circulating that it was being rushed. The powered suits you see in the opening of Chapter 2 were supposed to have several encounters throughout the chapter, instead they show up only at the escape on rails sequence where they are just window dressing. The Russian PMC is completely missing from the game even though it's commercial is still in the game. Act 5 was supposed to be a whole new environment to explore, instead it's literally just one room before the boss fight and corridor sequence and a bunch of repeating corridors to pad it up.

Great review! Love MGS4, I hope it's included in the master collection volume 2 it deserves the remaster treatment! Best looking ps3 game in my opinion!
This game is a totally different experience on a good surround sound system. It was easily the best sound design in that entire console generation and it's still incredible even with all the advances we have today.
The game play here really was great! I only wish they had made VR missions mode ala MGS1 and 2. That would’ve been so fun to just play around with the mechanics and use all the weapons. I suppose MGS online was there to replace which I get. I spent hours on that and it was great fun but a VR missions mode still would’ve been nice.
mgs4 feel like it was made for the fans of the series, specifically for the fans that played the games from the beginning through the years. If you played mgs1 in 98 and all the games after, you had a special experience playing mgs4. Snake has gotten older, just like the player, and he is having flashbacks just like the player…shadow mosses chapter is a massive nostalgia bomb.
back when exclusives could single handedly sell a console (got a ps3 just to play this) looking back its easily the worst of the first 4 games (mgsv is a whole other can of worms) but man the hype was so real, and at the time i was really happy with it
My favorite of the series ....best ending to the storyline best end boss fight to me ..passed it 3 times when I first got it .....passed it again when the trophy patch came out
By the way, MGS1 is the best, and MGS4 is second best, that is how I always felt. I played MGS2 last, and MGS3 pissed me off with it's goofy tone, no more grim scenarios nor depressing atmosphere, it's like MGS3 is Kojima's apology video for MGS2, which no one liked on release, Just like Silent Hill 2 was hated at launch, and for many years forward.
It's infair that the pretty cool gameplay mechanics don't get way more time and places to shine compated to the obnoxious ti the cutscenes exposition dumps do.
In a world with Halo, The last of us and Fallout TV series, I can see a Metal Gear series being made at some time. Maybe then I'll finally understand the convoluted story behind it all. 😵💫
Yes people are not smart enough to differentiate between the game having too much cutscenes vs the game has too little gameplay. Unfortunately the first kind of people are why the phantom pain has basically no cutscenes and the story is basically through freaking cassette tapes.
My dad got our ps3 because of this game. Probably the weakest of the mgs saga (1-4) Its still an incredible game. That final boss fight is one of the greatest ever imo.
Totally agree with u bro. No game should have an abundance of cutscenes. A movie is about showing not telling while a game is about playing not showing. Naughty Dog are good examples of cutscenes that feel like rewards. When u get a cutscene it should feel good in story progression. MGS is just full on Kojima self indulgence.
Act 1 and 2 I don't mind because in a lot of ways the game is just a better MGS3 but you barely get any time to enjoy it. Act 3 is a trailing mission and an on rails shooting segment followed by a shitty boss. Act 4 is you sneaking past robots which aren't as interactive as sneaking past humans and a mech fight in my stealth game. Act 5 is two hallways and then gay sex the boss. I believe that this is the worst game in the series and it's not even close simply because you barely do anything in it. It has the worst boss fights in the series up to that point, it chugs constantly which makes the improved controls you mentioned pretty much null void and the story dies by its tropes and retcons.

Octocamo, cqc, and contextual stuff for stealth is still unmatched. The first two acts are so good I've replayed them over and over
