I've been watching you for a while now, and even though I feel you should have more subscribers, I also like that this has continued to be a niche, straight to the point review channel. Keep the good work in these classic titles you haven't checked yet.
Man I've been following you for a while and your content is amazing. I'm just getting into the Metal Gear franchise myself and I finished MGS1 today. You can't imagine how happy I was to see you posted a review almost at the same time as I beat the game. Talk about perfect timing! Let's see if I can beat MGS2 before you review it. It is officially a race now 😂
When this Game dropped, it overloaded My 13 Year Old Brain. My Friend & I would walk around our Middle School and constantly make references to this Game all day between classes.😅 Good Times!
My first play through as a kid was also about 11hrs. When skipping all the cut scenes and codec conversations it can be finished in an 1.5hrs. Incredible game!
MGS1 is the only game that feels like something is always happening, it's the most tightly written and best acted game, and thanks to the translator Jeremy Blaustein and David Hayter (Snake's VO) who had his input to the game's script, this is one of the big reasons why this game is so well made, and Kojima who was just thinking this is his last game in the trilogy. I don't get the same momentum with any further installments, those games, although great, don't have the drive and passion to prove themselves. also Snake's character is the best, i love his gruff and cool demeanor, which don't see reaccure anywhere else in other games. For those reasons is why I also love Max Payne, he is cool but in a bit different way of cool. There's just somethings about people who grew up on American action movies but don't live there create the most concentrated American musculine characters.
When you cover TTS, will you be covering the issues the game had? I can list them individually. For one, the voice acting isn't as strong as the original. It's still good. But some characters sound bored. The biggest thing with the voice acting is every character had their accent removed. Mei Ling, Naomi being the primary example. There are some improvements in the voice acting like Snake and whoever did the Voice for Meryl. They added one voice actor to the cast. Rob Paulson who voices Grey Fox. In the original, Greg Eagles voiced Grey Fox and The DARPA Chief. I think Rob Paulson was okay with the material. There just wasn't enough changes to the dialogue. Another issue is the Music. They added techno remixes to some of the tracks. Most of it, had ambience and less memorable. The bosses have their own theme though. So that's something. What other issues include the exclusion of the VR missions. The original having 300 of those had only three where you played Grey Fox. This would've been a perfect opportunity to fix that. They didn't even bother. The two of the major issues are the cutescenes and the gameplay. I want talk about the new cutscenes. These are by far the most controversial thing. The use of bullet time and slow mo. The infamous cutscene is where Snake backflips off a missile. I know MGS had it's fair share of Out there moments. But at no point did it ruin the tone. In fact, the original game was played relatively straight. Not saying it didn't have it's fair share of Quirky moments. TTS just has an over the top tone and it takes away from the supposed good voice work or at least what's left of it. But all you're getting is the same exact story with very little to no changes outside the cutescenes. All of the gameplay enhancements sound like a massive upgrade. Okay I seemed like I b***hed about the game. Let me get to the main complaint I have. It's when they added MGS2 gameplay to MGS1'S perimeters. They didn't revamp the areas around the new gameplay features like Hanging off ledges, the dodge roll, and FPS mode. That and it servally nerfed the Ocelot boss fight and they didn't play test it. So without revamping that areas design, the game's balance is off and it's way easier on all difficulties. Of course I ain't saying that I played MGS for its challenge and difficulty. I just remember the limitations enhancing the experience and making it make you play practically. In TTS, no areas where FPS mode was required. Think about it like this. RE remake also came out on the GameCube and it revamped the puzzles, repurposed the gameplay and added new locals to make the gameplay more dynamic. The way they maintain the original game's balance was adding new enemy formations. Zombies now become crimson heads. I think Capcom should have been the ones to remake MGS. That's just my opinion. Anyways, I said what I needed to say. I listed all the main issues levied against The Twin Snakes. What do you think, do you agree or disagree? Hopefully if you make that video, you'll address the issues I listed. This comment's long enough as it is. I'll stop here.
Playing through it now actually. At this moment, hah. I have it on PC with a mod launcher (GOG version) and yes, it supports 1080p, 60 fps, and x-input remapping. Anisotropic filtering and MSAA as well. It really makes it great. But I still prefer the classic PS1 version. It works well for PS1 and is the OG. It still looks good too, in my opinion. I don't really emulate, prefer the classic hardware, the reading of the jewel case and the booklet/manual. I want the Twin Snake version for my Gamecube, but just not willing to pay $85.
Another PS1 game made by Konami, which doesn't get the love & attention it deserves is, "Project Overkill." Its got an isometric view and is a type of sci-fi shooter & is gory for its time but its controls take some getting used to. It was made before the invent of the analog sticks but I found that it controls well, considering its age. Its also sprite based, which I feel ages much better than polygon based games. You get 4- completely different characters and they represent your lives. When all your characters (operatives) are dead, its game over.
I can live with graphics without any issues, but god damn the control scheme in almost all MGS games is absolute dog shit. It's beyond horrible. I've played through this back in the day and loathed them back then and recently tried replaying and just couldn't continue for more like half an hour.
@@jothain playing it back right now on ps5, and i had to take a break after 5 hours. Cuz GODAYM its frustrating as hell. I remember when i played it back in 98, and was blowed away. Buuut we didnt know better back then, and we all do now :P
I have never met a fanbase as PRETENTIOUS as the MetalGear/Kojima one. While I did play and enjoyed MGS, it's not the Second Coming of Christ. Neither are the sequels, despite what the rabid fans would have you believe. 😮💨
I absolutely agree. Imho controls are utter shit in almost all of the mgs series, though last title is fine. Also Hideos teen humor is just really, really bad. To me they're really bizarre trying to be partly very serious and then throw really weird humor that just doesn't fit in titles at all. Same applies for many characters in the series. There are solid titles series, but man some of the fans are so over the top. Been playing since 90's and if I'd have to do like top 50 games ever, I'm not sure if any MGS game would belong to even that vast compilation. Absolutely not top 20.
@@double-ohh-sheven7019 It's a shame that they didn't rebalance the levels for MGS2's gameplay (it feels broken) and made many scenes worse. Would appreciate a remake that was less faithful on the levels to suit the more advanced gameplay but was more faithful on the story. They basically got it the wrong way around.
Not sure what you mean. MGS1 doesn't have tank controls like Resident Evil did on the PS1. You push in a direction and he immediately moves in that direction. Do you mean during the game's development?
@@idakev sweet child you didn't knew but first PS1 controlers didn't have analog sticks and MGS1 didn't had analog based control map, IT WAS ALL TANK CONTROL, from beginning to end and we all played it that way in the 90s. edit: exactly like RE2 and Tomb Raider, not thqt there's a different tank control mapping for different games.
@@DrRESHES The Dual Analog controller was released before MGS1. It came out in 1997. MGS1 came out in 1998. The Dualshock (vibration added) came out in 1998 too. I played the game as a child on my PS1 with analogue sticks. I'm well aware that the first PS1 controllers didn't have analogue sticks.
@@DrRESHES You were insisting that everyone played it without analog sticks back then and I was just telling you the truth. You likely got a PS1 a good bit earlier than me so in a way you're lucky. haha. No hard feelings. Nice to finally see a review that isn't bitching about how it looks old and doesn't have widescreen.
He kinda did that but okay.
One of the greatest video games ever made, and I say that as someone who done who didn’t play it until a few years ago.

Shame this wasn't on Saturn or Dreamcast. Plus, that PC port needed more time in the kitchen and with an option to choose the JP dub

This game really needs to be remade with modern graphics because the PS1 era graphics look extremely dated, imho.
