By the way, the setting for AC6 has been explained in the game's Steam page
    Story Overview
A mysterious new substance was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, this substance caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.
Almost half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe.
Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themself in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.

Yeah they mixed up the weapon system again this time. You had both the weapon bays from 5th-gen that held extra guns, as well as back-mounted missile pods and cannons from 4th-gen and earlier. The quad leg in the trailer seems to have a back cannon.

  • @bombomos

I'm so happy with this trailer. Also I think back weapons are still gonna be in the game. Cuz in the same frame that you see the arm weapon switch. You also see a back mounted missile pod open up. I think what they will do is have back mounted arm weapons as an option if you don't want to rock missiles or a heavy canon.

    • @nubnubbud
      @nubnubbud Год назад +5

@@aboveaveragegaming6120 I personally think an open world would be quite nice. not, like, a persistent open world (though I'm an exploration lover so any open world anything is my game) but one of armored core's greatest strengths is its customization and mobility, while its greatest weaknesses are parts tied to story progress and the story and world feeling incomplete, and if you're not up for postgame shenanigans, the story and endgame weapons feel wasted. I'm not the nostalgic or traditionalist type, but I feel taking a story about being a lone gun, and having it fully take place among others, with others, or against others... might be self-defeating. The core loop simply doesn't... need to be story based, or directly linked to a story at all, while with secret weapons and alternate mission objectives, huge arenas in nature and cities, alternate endings, they clearly wanted to give the player more freedom than the missions would originally suggest. An open world might end up more armored-core-flavored than any previous game. If you're a mercenary, where are all the side-quests and side-objectives?
I'm thinking more that it might take the shape of: everything is gone, your armored core IS your home base now. you can go around and do stuff but the core loop is still taking missions, preparing for the missions, doing the missions, and getting ready for the next one. I'm also open to a crafting/upgrade system, that would reward players for spending time to make their favorite parts, regardless of power, better. imagine someone designing a weapon, so they aim their sniper with a map, or a dedicated guerilla strike machine that dumps all its ammo in a moment. A massive map and player-oriented deployment could let you turn an elimination mission, into an assassination mission, by finding a nice perch that can view an arms deal, or so on, and low mobility can work better if you need to go on long excursions and need better range and health values. Soulsbourne games are big on "if you can make it work, it works." and from software found a winning formula with elden ring- I doubt they'll fully let that go.
TL;DR; I think an open world would be able give what the other games lacked, while trimming the fat and being able to contain far more of that tasty fromsoft cryptic-as-hell lore.

I take the first few bits as just worldbuilding stuff. I heard someone say recently that we are one solar flare away from everything coming to an end. I can’t help but think that might be exactly what we are seeing in the opening. Some kind of freak catastrophe that brings the world to its knees and now all there is left to do is fight over the few remaining resources. All that remains are ashes, but we’re still lighting them on fire. That sounds perfectly Armored Core to me. Super excited for more people to get introduced to this franchise.

Glad to see your cautiously optimistic as well.
I'm, reasonably confident it'll play more like a traditional Armored Core game, with levelsl. However, those individual levels might be larger and more expansive then we've seen in previous AC games, and would allow for the player to scavenge parts and supplies on the battlefield. This might even allow for storytelling within missions outside of the main objective.
As for gameplay, if the back cannon on the quad is any indication, it looks like they'll be blending some of the gameplay elements of AC3 through Verdict Day. We might even see core functions return as seperate abilities, such as overboost, orbit cannons and assault armor as options to be added to your mech. Or they might be built into the cores themselves, with different cores having different abilities. Who knows. In the trailer we see both back weapons and a back hanger bay, which means we might be able to pick and choose whether we want a hanger back for an additional arm weapon, or a back cannon for heavier firepower. The return of primal armor, or something like primal armor, is also cool and I'm curious to see how different it is from AC4/FA.
All in all, I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll have to wait and see more though.

I hope they dont bring back a lot of the mechanics in Verdict Day/V. I hope that quick boosting isnt a main combat movement anymore, it sort of ruined the strategies of the earlier titles. Back then it used to be all about maneuvering out of sightlines and making sure you were always the one pushing the enemy to defend. V really just turned into two scrap heaps that teleport around the map till someone dies. I think the focus here on close range weapons might be a hint as to just how the gameplay is going to go this time around. Lots of weapons that look like they take more skill to use, rather than missile boats and long range quick boosting till the other guy just doesn't hit you enough. Also lets hope that the "scanning" modes dont come back either.
I don't think this will be open world tho, I think that was just worldbuilding in order to show that the world is so insanely ruined that even using an AC as a traveling scrap shop just happens in order to survive. I like it as a piece of world-lore. Also if you look at the parts, all the blockier parts seem to have some sort of inspiration from the earlier gen3 titles, where as the curvier parts seem to reflect the later game designs. I think this very stark contrast in parts is also a hint to what gameplay will be like. Being able to read the build of enemy ACs might be important, because that quad-ACs primal armor was broken by what looks like an ECM core, so making sure you understand how to counter what you're up against might actually play into new strategies.
(ALSO: the Quad AC definitely has a back cannon in that shot where it uses it’s left arm weapon so no worries there!)

I think AC6 is actually the rebranding of the unmade sequel to AC4: For Answer. That was originally intended to be a trilogy where the final game was going into space because Earth was badly ravaged by Kojima particles and we destroyed the floating colony cities in the sky in that one mission. Also you can see that mech at the end does have a back-mounted missile launcher so it looks like we will have separate left and right back weapons. It seems what they did is consolidated the extra weapon stowing feature no one really used in AC4 since it added extra weight into the back weapon system to allow you to optionally stow an extra primary weapon instead, rather than just a pistol.

Incidentally, although they weren't always seen in use; those cannons on the front of many AC cores are actually that cores anti missile system. If you look in replays in AC3 for example, you can see your red anti-missile laser comes from those cannons unless you have some kind of auxiliary part doing it for you.
I hope they borrow more from the AC2/AC3 era of games - which I consider the franchises golden age. I felt like the later games just got too insanely fast paced. To the point that they are barely even the same games imo. I was a long time player of the franchise, and I quit those games after one play through instead of sticking to them for ages after release.

But if our AC's have advanced hovering movement and high speed dashing like V & AC, I wonder if they'll go the multiplayer route where you just get blasted out of the sky.

These Kojima Particles (KP from now on) are incredibly destructive, and will actively break down molecules it comes into contact with, literally tearing apart slugs and energy structures (Like plasma and Laser) at the atomic level. KP is also very long lasting, able to coat the land, sort of like Radioactive Fallout. You can even "Kojima Poisoning", which to me sounds like a KP got into someone's blood stream and is actively breaking them down.

Also rumor says the game is directed by the director of sekiro, also steam page says the game would focus more on close range combat. Looking back at earlier entries in the series, I don't think the Rubicon 3 substance/incident is that out of place in terms of tone or setting. Being "grounded" doesn't mean free of fanciful science fiction elements.
The original universe of AC1 and AC2 had space travel, and Mars was host to ancient alien technology and Phobos was an alien super weapon. The AC3 universe revolves around ancient advanced technology and malevolent AI. In the AC4 universe, Kojima Particles are the macguffin that enables their advanced technology. Not to mention Lynx's require a "unique psychic trait" to pilot NEXTs. The contamination that caused the desolation of the ACV universe was also caused by Kojima Particles. That universe also featured ancient hostile AIs.
It seems like the universe of Armored Core VI is combining all these elements into its setting. It features space travel, and the Rubicon substance will likely be analogous to Kojima Particles. Rubicon 3's desolation and advanced technological remnants is also evocative of the post-apocalyptic setting of previous titles. So, I think Fire of Rubicon's more fanciful presentation is fine. Its just more of the same of what Armored Core's always been doing.
