    Information from Playstation interview:
    Assault Boost: One of the biggest new features in Armored Core VI is an instantaneous switch between long-range gunfighting and close-range melee, thanks to a button-activated movement skill called the Assault Boost.
    there will be multiple endings to Armored Core VI’s narrative, with new paths opening up on subsequent playthroughs
    Stagger: Another addition to the series’ combat is a “stagger” element: if an AC takes too many hits over a short period of time, its Attitude Control System will be overloaded, making it vulnerable for a short time.

    • @rreckinreturns
      @rreckinreturns Год назад +14

      I noticed that stagger during my analysis of the trailer, and got super excited. That sounds way better than the type of stunlock you'd previously get, like in AC2 Defend the Bridge, where if you got hit by those little flying MTs, they'd just hold you there and eat your AP for breakfast

      I'm getting the vibe its going to have a real soft camera centering on an enemy when locked on at range (maybe only when right stick is neutral) at most, but in Assault Boost it becomes Soulsy and super centered. This works for me because it feels like a version of overboosting from 1-3 except actually practical (couldnt shoot or turn for shit during it). Watch it actually just be R3 to Assault boost, just like souls lockon. Kind of feels like a natural progression from the L3+R3 that forced you to straight line only.

      Assault Boost really doesn't sound to me like a new feature to me, it just sounds like exactly what we think it is, Overboost. Unless they made it faster and shorter burst, but that would still just be a fast Overboost. I hope they'll elaborate on this because right now it doesn't sound at all like a new feature.

      The jump pads could maybe be an accessibility feature for players who built their mechs so overweight that that they can barely even lift off the ground. So instead of being forced to restart when stuck in a mission where you can't boost over walls, you can find jump pads to progress. It could also mean that the size of buildings in the game are massive and it would take forever to just fly over them without a jump pad to assist to get to the top of them.

That said, I am personally doubtful about it, I feel like it's more likely just a way add more to levels and perhaps disguise loading screens. (If your mech takes 2 seconds to ascend a tower you can be assured the game is probably unloading all the stuff behind the player for a performance boost)

    Nice pointing out the shoulders being in use at the same time as the same hand weapon. I imagine that there will be a button for each shoulder weapon and pressing it will either swap or use the weapon depending on the type.
    I think the Assault Boost will add tracking while you stay within close range. Either that or we just auto-lock bosses. There's no way they put in a Souls lock-on for general combat.
    Free flying doesn't necessarily contradict those boss animations if they simply make early game more grounded by only providing mediocre generators and energy expensive boosters with low lift. It's honestly really hard to tell without knowing how far into the game those specific fights are. My suspicion is that we're just going to have less lift in general to somewhat limit flying rather than the actual limited hovering that was in 5.

    The argument that they wouldn't design the boss to have giant melee attacking arms is compelling at first but you have to consider that that hover move shown earlier in the trailer could just as well be deployed against it. So would they force you to use specific walker legs against it just so the boss works? Doubtful if you ask me, my bet is that like other commenters have said there are specific anti-air attacks that kind of disincentivize hanging around in the air all time.
    Also, how would you ever board that giant walker mech shown earlier in the trailer unless you could fly. Hell the trailer opens with what looks to be gameplay of an AC flying through the air. I guess we won't really know until more information comes out. Maybe there'll be a more in-depth showing before release.

    • @w1mark275
      @w1mark275 Год назад +1

      Another thing to take into consideration is that this trailer is by no means a representation of the final product, so those enemies with close ranged sweeping attacks might not even be the actual challenge, there could be other enemies that you're facing at the same time and perhaps the boss is just your final objective to destroy. Perhaps you'll even be able to throw enemies into the boss to scrap them so they act more as a environmental hazard rather than a boss. We have no clue if these are supposed to be like endgame bosses either, they could be enemies you face early on that you can trivialize by using basic movements as cannon fodder to get you more accustomed with the game or as bullet sponges to test out your powerful weaponry with.

    • @w1mark275
      @w1mark275 Год назад +1

      @@TheGallantDrake Yea in hindsight I should have just left it as a boss and moved on. But my main point was, enemies in games which don't look threatening at all can still achieve a goal or purpose. In this circumstance we just didn't see the entirety of the bosses' moveset. It has things that can be "threatening" to a player that can fly around a lot. This is my assumption, but it appears the fact that you can't boost around forever will be the main thing that bosses exploit to make them challenging.
      That said, I think it'll be a mid-to-early game boss. I don't really think there's enough going on to make more than that. It could have a second phase or something though that makes the fight completely differnt, but I doubt that since it was a gameplay demo and it was mentioned that the other dev showcasing the game beat the boss which makes me think it probably a pretty short one.

There's going to be veteran AC fans, but there's also going to be a large contingent of people (like me) who love Fromsoft for their recent catalog of Souls and Souls-like games. As someone who has become a fan of Fromsoft through the Souls games but never played an Armored Core game, the biggest excitement I have is just the change of game as it feels fresh from my point of view. Another is the fact that through listening to old school Armored Core fans is that you don't want to see a regression in mobility and more of an extension of AC4. Personally I'm hoping for a complete mixture, where fast and light flying mechs are better for certain missions while slow and heavy grounded mechs are better for other missions. Just that tactical element where you set the rules of your setup yourself, making it as easy or as hard as you want makes me feel that the single player content will be deep and highly replayable.

    I kept saying they needed to ground the combat more, to emphasize the functional differences in builds. But what's seen isn't enough to confirm that. Just jumping over an attack doesn't necessarily mean that they've hard grounded things. All it means, is that they're sticking closer to AC3 and AC5, which I also keep telling people that the game will be closer to AC3 than it will be to AC4/4A. But that should've been obvious looking at the first trailer and the aesthetic they've chosen for the parts.
    It's also worth noting that in all the instances here, they weren't just purely "throwaway" encounters. And the info that has come out confirms that they've emphasized reading enemy type/patterns. Those were "Elite" enemies at worst, and maybe "Boss" encounters at best.
    Something else I've suggested in the past, and maybe they've done, is "Plane Shifting" for flight, judging by the Quad. What I mean by "Plane Shifting" can be summarized by the function of Hover extensions in AC3/LR except as a mechanic instead of a benefit you get from a specific extension that almost nobody uses/wants to use. The Plane where you engage the "Hover" becomes the default Plane, the new ground level.
    If people keep holding up AC4/FA and expecting this game to be anything close to it, they're going to be disappointed. It's AC3 and AC5, with some of the bells and whistles from AC4.

    This is just an idea but perhaps the hovering with the quad legs is a way to stay stationary in the air without having to feather the boost button to keep your exact height. Like for instance you click the right analog stick and you hover in place. Or perhaps they added a lockon feature so that when you target an enemy in the air you stay in a fixed position, allow you to maneuver in relation to the locked target. The hovering feature could also be something exclusive to quad legs to perhaps give them unique movement options compared to other leg types. For instance, the tread legs will likely be able to maneuver quickly/drift on the ground, perhaps they want the quad legs to be the tank treads equivalent but when hovering in the air? (like tank drifting in hovercraft) It's possible that the hovering is a special energy-saving mode, where you're restricted in movement but it allows you to stay in the air longer or make energy weapons more viable. I assume that the reverse jointed mechs would have an increased jump height to make switching between ground and aerial combat quickly for the bunny hopping enthusiasts.
    I also want to mention it's a nice transition in the trailer that they show the tank treads directly after the quad legs section. It gives the viewer a nice contrast in playstyles between grounded and aerial combat with the 2 heavier leg types.

    Im gonna throw out a wild piece of speculation.
    The Boost Charge/Kick will be exclusive to Reverse Joints and Tanks to emphasize differences between the leg types like how it seems Quad Legs can altitude lock and hover.
    My other piece of speculation is you will be able to "Fly Free" its just it wont be like Armored Core For Answer where every build had effectively infinite boost even with the highest consumption boosters. The energy management will be much more deliberate. Also im assuming for most of their attacks bosses have the ability to aim them up or down to swat us out of the sky.
    So think of it more like, well, any of the series thats not For Answer, hell even Armored Core 4 had a semi restricted energy economy, For Answer just cranked everything to 11.
    As for the camera during that one boss if you kept looking after the initial quick boost, the AC begins to fly directly up and isnt tracking the boss at all, its staring straight forward the whole time till the last few frames in that clip where you can see its shoulder boosters flare up for a quick turn, which leads me to believe the camera was purely cinematics to keep the boss in focus for the trailer.
    Adding a camera like that as an actual gameplay thing would be incredibly jank as far as turning and controlling your AC are concerned but we'll have to wait to find out how it goes.

    This is all the proof that you need that flying exists, for the cool people in the comments that need it. To what extent can you fly? Who can say. I, for one, do not want gen 4 flying-- as much as I like gen 4, I don't need infinite flight that is handed out like candy. in gen 2 and 3 I think you could, but it would be very tough to do or might require human plus. I think considering the boss structure, some limit would probably be required, whether that's just the core mechanics or the boss/arena having a type of AA function. And by that, I don't mean that you won't be able to fly, but that you simply can't fly forever out the gate. I'm not against infinite or highly maneuverable flight, but I don't think them not displaying such means that the game is going to just be gen 5 again, which many people seem to not like I guess.

    At 22:48, he never said combos resulting specifically for a one shot move. You're thinking too much like a Soulsborne fan. What I'm imaging a weapon combo could work is maybe some weapons do more stagger damage, and you focus to get that stagger to land a hard to hit melee laser attack. Maybe the Pilebunker does ridiculous damage sure, but numbers can be tweaked. And I'm sure Fromsoft knows when to tone down a weapon when they know we can utilize it easier especially when we can immobilize an enemy via combo.
    Maybe there are more combos you can work into, but in the end I'm very sure there are no true one shot combos. Enemy ACs have a substantial health pool. Even the most fragile AC can take at least 5 or so melee laser attacks. Maybe these combos can one shot the normal mob enemies. Then great, it adds more nuance to gameplay and you can't spam these combos because unlike backstabbing in Souls games, AC needs ammunition management.
    Decent video overall, but the fact that you keep on being condescending to the "Casuals" but then make assumptions that are absolutely dumb really leaves a bad taste.

So i got interessed in “what really is armored core” and i ended up playing For Answer, cool game, but i hope that fires of rubicon will be more souls like than “original armored core” on both camera and bosses side: EXPECIALLY BOSSES. Maybe it’s because the age of the game, but to me for answer has no “real bosses”, no “real challenge”, idk it feels too easy, i personaly love the really high speed fight with other NEXT but the camera it’s something orrendous (i understand the “mecha thing” of need time to lock the enemy cause of the advanced weaponry, but i hope they’ll partilly remove this thing or sligtly improve it); I honestly hope that there will be a lock on like the souls games, simply to know always where is the enemy, and an overall better camera; then, OBVIOUSLY, REAL FROMSOFT BOSSES. Said that i’ll preorder fires of rubicon anyway, Im really confident on it, i think it will be a monstruous return of a series (even if the only AC i’ve played is For Answer on an emulator) because i know the modern FromSoftware and i trust them 100%, they just don’t miss🔥

    One reasonable doubt about the "no flight" concept is that in ACFA we had enemies like Stigro make being at certain elevations become another kind of dangerous for the player. Similarly, even then there was proximity responses to the enemies responding to you like being up close too long and an Assault Armor could pop under certain conditions of the right opponents. What I'm thinking is that weight as an influence to flight will mean something different in which case a tank may be extra insufficient to traverse certain obstacles as a comparison to say a reverse legged. I especially imagine we won't see Ultimate Weapons abused for limitless energy use until they time up, again like in ACV's speed running the first mission we'd see Hanged Man, and he's be sniping us.

Quad legs are heavier so it looks like they have to transfor to stay in the air. And maybe the Jump pad is so tank legs can still traverse through the level. I strongly hope the Souls-style hard lock on isn't a thing, but to be honest, watching the footage myself of the two instances people often cite as evidence of a hard lock on, I actually don't think that's the case. The first instance with the reverse joint and that droideka MT looks a lot like a typical For Answer maneuver, and the camera does react sorta like that in For Answer as well. As for the boss AC with the missile cage, the camera movement doesn't look so much like hard lock-on as it does the player simply mid-air strafing while turning to keep facing the target. So many AC games, For Answer included, lets the AC player model shift way off center when strafing a target. It also could be similar to the auto-tracking setting that For Answer has that makes the camera shift on its own to make aiming easier. The big bosses with melee attacks are definitely Soulsy though, and I'm not necessarily opposed to that as I would be opposed to other Souls-like changes they could make. That's my take.
    Also, I can't help but think it's a little funny that Souls players love to brag so much about how hard their games are and they don't have any hand holding, yet those same people are so afraid of Armored Core doing the same thing. I just hope that AC isn't dumbed down. Tutorials are fine, dumbing stuff down isn't. Being a fighting game player, I despise that trend among modern fighting games.

      The thing I'm most concerned about is the lack of vertical movement in the trailer. Multiple times they say we will be taking to the skies, but is that outside of combat? Also when it comes to having a souls lock system I think it will sadly. This is from an interview -
      Yamamura: Speaking of aiming, Armored Core 6 is a very action oriented game compared to the previous games. Therefore, rather than focusing on aiming, we will have to concentrate on the movements of the enemy, and on finding the right windows to attack. There will therefore be new elements related to this aspect.

    A mission where your mech was sabotaged so you have to complete it with limited capability, missions where the area is covered by anti-air guns making flying not impossible but inadvisible, missions where there is some gas in the air that makes activating boosters lead to explosions, some kind of gravity manipulation space where your mech can't take flight, cramped spaces where hitting the ceiling causes damage somehow, ...

      @@KABLAMMATS no verticality (as he mentions in the video we can jump glide and hover but potentially not fly freely, we'll have to see more to see if that's true) having a souls style lockon instead of either the traditional lockbox or the AC4 style lockon, having less health overall and a bigger emphasis on evasion, etc.
      Armored Core is not Dark Souls and it never should be, the two series are incredibly different and should stay that way.

      @@Wind_Falcon Yes you can, you can't fly for long, but by pressing one button you can begin to move vertically and stop whenever you want. From the gameplay trailer people have been wondering if free flight won't be available, as we see jumping, gliding and hovering, but no gradual rise in height from just using the boosters.
      We won't know for certain until we get some more footage, though from some of the clips free flight does appear to be there.

    • @Wind_Falcon
      @Wind_Falcon Год назад +1

      @@Nineball459 "Free fly" I think of as in 4th Gen. The limited flying you get in Old Gen seems to be represented in the trailer in a couple of scenes. If you can hover and do air boosts like against that crazy missile enemy, seems to suggest you can air boost like in Old Gen. But really the game focusing more on and perfecting ground movement and sliding can be very good, since there's not a lot of momentum in the air, and momentum is always a fun mechanic.
      So you can't conclude that Old Gen limited flying is not in the game from this trailer, and if that is true it's not necessarily a bad thing. Game won't stop being or feeling like AC if it's more ground focused.

      What do you mean by free movement? This legit looks like AC4 movement minus infinite flight. Which tbh was the worst part of the game because most levels you could just fly above everything and win.

    I'm willing to bet that flying is viable but you are incentivized to stay grounded because lateral acceleration is faster, and it costs enough EN that you are cutting into your reserves for QB.

    The trailer had me hyped to the moon, but the potential of there being lock on has me worried. I can totally imagine it to be fun, but it would probably take away so much of what makes Amored Core Armored Core 🤔
    But overall I trust From Soft, a new Amored core with different mechanics is still better than no new Armored Core 😌

    New theory: "Let's see how far they can fly on borrowed wings."
    Maybe they're returning to the stamina/energy meter limited boost... but certain missions start you out with the huge rocket booster attachments like from Armored Core 4. Flight is unlimited while attached, but it detaches after a certain distance ia reached.

    So, ive watched some of your content becsuse jm reslly looking forward to this game, but i've seen you making sone conclusions here and be a bit worried when i think youre just worried because of the lack of information. Im not saying "tou shouldnt be worrry, it's gonna be fine" i hust think that multiple times in the video you see something in the trailer, assume something based on some previous knowledge, experience or opinion then come to a conclusion that i don't think is necessarily right.
    So, i am a souls player, so of course take that into consideration, but i am **not** looking for souls gameplay in AC6. One of the interesting things about big bosses is that i thinn they'll work **miles** better in this game than in souls. Because in souls the common thing is to be uo close, not far away, so big bosses have this issue of not fitting into the screen. They try some tricks and some form to telegraph moved even when youre close but the results vary. So just because a boss has telegraphed moves it doesnt meant "its souls". It means additional things to look forward to fighting, its an addition, not reduction.
    One of your concerns is about flight, and i do get that. They did confirm during an interviee that the overall design speed is to be between AC3 and AC5, but with sometimes reaching near AC4 level of movement. We still have to see thag, obviously, but i think its too soon to judt negate all flight just because you saw a default looking mech jump and hover. We already saw a different type of mech that looks more AC4 ish, so maybe those will have more control in the air. "But then why would they design a boss with a sweep attack if you could fly?", why would they make a souls boss with a close grab if the player can just cast magic from far away?
    Not every build will face the boss moveset the exact same. Thinking one thing will invalidate other type of design feels too soon. I just think its too early ti be cincerned with this kind of thing for one trailer. But they did kind of set up expectations with the Ac3-AC5 speed comment.
    Not only that, this game needs to run on Xbox One, i highly doubt we'll be abke to fly super fast, those old consoles wouldnt handle having to load and run so much at the same time. Which is one of my disappointments with this game. I wish it was for only next gen platforms. But we take what we can get.
    The next thing i think youre reaching a wrong conclusion is about the "combo" where you said "why would they allow a one shot combo to happen?" As if they already confirmed melee would be a one shot... you reached a conclusion using an assumption. I dont think we can do that. What if theyre changjng the overall balance of melee weapons consjderijg theyll have bigger range, be easier to use and have a lot more options to choose from? What if the "one shot combo" exists but its very hard to pull off?
    You said it yourself, fhere is a lot we dont knoe about, so i dont think we need to stress about things things yet. Lets wait and observe more when they provide extra gameplay (which i am thinking by next month we might be seeing more) and then reach some more conclusions.
    But hey, i know it seemed i was mostly "against" your vire here but i liked your content here and in other videos so i'll definetely be checking you out in the future. You know how they've talked about making Elden Ring more accessible, and how did that turn out? There are sill some tough as shit bosses there. So no, i dont think things will just devolve for "casuals". So, i want to just say that we dtill need to see more, lets not get super ahead of ourselves. And if there is no infinite flight or if its jot really an AC that lived to expectations, i think we should just be vocal about it and in the future theyll listen, even if it takes another game or dlc.
    Have a good one \o/

    Not gonna lie, my first point of concerns is the camera. Before I watch your commentary, I really sceptism about the camera will look like gen 5, where the AC placement is on the side. Whereas pre-gen 5 is always default at the center (except if the player are using overboost).
    And now, after watching your commentary, I feel like “Oh sh**, not the souls boss camera again”. I really not aware of that because I just thought, “Nah, this is just for the promotional only”, as naturally.
    I just hope they will give us the option for using either of the two since I know some people love ACV/ACVD.
    The lock-on camera? Just don't, please....
    The second concern is movement. The tank really remind me the gen 5 movement. I don't know why but gen 5 movement is slower than gen 3. I just hope that is not the case.
    Lastly but not a concern, I hope FreQuency will drop another banger to AC series :)
