Huntress betrayal certainly surprised me as I always took her as backup when available and her voice lines gave off a friendly demeanor, making the switch to a more aggressive tone at the end all the more surprising.
But it did teach a good lesson about the dangers of simping, apple boy was the real homie of the bunch.

I miss Armored Core so much. Armored Core 5 was so fun. Just playing operator online against another worth operator, playing chess with human chess pieces controlling giant robots against another person playing chess with human chess pieces controlling giant robots was the best online gaming experience I've ever had. Shame that never hit the mainstream. Maybe today, in the streamer culture and the blur between online gaming and social media in general, something like that could've thrived a bit more.

    • @L3ttuc3
      @L3ttuc3 Год назад +12

Agree. I know it wasn't terribly popular, and I understand how it didn't appeal very deeply to very many people (though it did have a respectable online player base for longer than I expected.) but I fell in love with AC5 right away. I thought the online system was a lot of fun to participate in and the gameplay felt really good. There were some imbalanced parts, but really most any build could be made to work and a lot of play styles were viable. And I do think it would do much better now than it did back in it's own time.
At least it SEEMS that another AC entry is in development finally. I certainly hope it makes it's way to us. Can't wait to see what they do with the series after all this time.

I sometimes wish I did play it at it's prime. Because it felt like a slog to go through(did not like the main story and more like the sidequest that are a continuation after the main story which are oddly cut up into sidequests) with impossible challenges alone. Half the cast I hated hated instead of like hating them. With the worse part being the mechs for just being potatoes with generic environments to glide(since legs are useless for how slow you walk) around in and not like any of the prior games. I will say though the Verdict day fixed some of those gripes but I would have liked to have a full party of U1 mechs with pre made schematics from the other pilots instead of just 1 along with taking control of them when my mech died instead of being strapped to a jetpack welding a bbgun. Also Fuck the final boss in that game I swear it is literally is just a AC from AC4 that may have some downgrades with the inability to fly, but is still broken to fight solo.

@@KABLAMMATS I wanted to play it though to understand AC and how it's changed throughout the years since it was made back on the PS1. And when I played AC5 without the online servers with it's campaign. It was hard doing certain challenges without a extra player or two beside you since there's unlockables behind them. The way that 5 along with Verdic Day were made is clearly relying on online since there's not even a split screen co-op which drags the game down in the long run after online services shut down like today.

Funny part about that mirage betrayal mission, it seems if you predominantly pick mirage missions, they will down right not betray you and even award you with more stock. Crest however did attempt to kill me but I wouldn’t call it a betrayal
Edit: ok nvm if you side with mirage they just throw the Betrayal behind the Levithan mission instead of before. I don’t know if this how it was intended but it felt weird that this entire time I’m helping mirage constantly then they just back stab me then again these are corpos.

I also complained about how the LATE-3 generation of AC games (Nexus to Last Raven) lacked any way to unlock human plus even if people 100% the game(s), because that's how it was in AC3's sequel Silent Line. Another awesome video dude! As a long time AC fan, I want to say a few things from my experience with AC3.
AC3 was the title i started the series with so, I have the fondest memories of it, and SL. AC3's world is absolutely one of the best in the series (as well as SL but they're meant to be one whole game). The crazy soundtrack, the gritty and grungy world, it feels different than most mecha titles of the time. Like you said, it felt like you were in that world, having to survive within it. Not just roll thru as the protagonist and not feel challenged. Starting with stock in 3 feels so challenging at first and you feel rewarded as you progress from your default parts. Yes, the escort missions are ass, but I too love the alloy one. Especially with the driver sounding so nice, like he actually doesnt want to die. I always felt bad if he did because he was just some dude, not a soldier.
I think its best to try and play the game not relying on certain weapons like the (very) broken Pixie 1000 ammo MG, Karasawa, Moonlight, or Howitzer. Shotguns were always fun to challenge myself with, as well as pistols/dual weapons, or blade arms. One of the best things about 3 was that it's blade tracking felt the best IMO. If you had a lock on or the target was within the lock box, your swing would propel you towards the enemy, making for some really fun blade only strategies. I encourage any old blood fans, or newcomers who want a real challenge to try to beat the entire arena with only a blade and pile bunker spike. It leads to some really fun AC builds and strategies. Interested in your control scheme video too, since AC has a very strange way or control with strafing being the main way to survive. I've found that actually crossing in front of the ai backwards and trying to get to their six that way led to some intense fights. Like taking a gamble to let them get a shot only to turn it around on them instantly can be super cool. I have a video in the works myself so hopefully i can illustrate it better.
Anyway i could go on, but I love your reviews dude, cant wait for the others. Got a subscriber out of me.

I just downloaded most of the Armored Core games. I seriously love Armored Core. The first Armored Core game was the very first mech game I played as a kid, even though I didn't understand how to play it, just the fact that you could build a mech that looked super cool and go on missions with it was so sick! As I was just a child though, I was limited in the games I could find and that was the only Armored Core game I played until I seen Armored Core 4 in a game stop. I instantly bought it with the little money I had as I was still in school and I was blown away, my favorite missions were fighting arms forts, their designs and gameplay were so much fun. If they made an Armored Core movie or show going over all the Armored Core history, I would instantly buy it.

Probably your best vid yet, but i have an AC3 bias :P
Couple of things: nope, you are correct, you dont unlock anything from s ranks unlike future games, a couple of parts need S ranking certain missions but thats only for the 100% completion rate, S ranking every mission doesnt do anything here besides giving you more credits.
Speaking of which, secret parts that are sold on the store in this game cant be obtained in silent line, dont make the mistake i committed lmao
Its also worth noting that the PSP port of AC3 has a bunch of new parts, all taken from AC2, same with silent line's PSP port, which even brings back the karasawa MK2.
Finally, if you do play silent line on the PS2 version, it does have the upside of having a first person mode thats way more than just the camera being moved to your head like in gen 1, it has a sick 3D hud and everything.
Looking forward to the next vid!

I remembered hearing about this game back in 2016 from Game theory(RIP Ronny) and found a copy at a 2nd hand store(after finding 5 at game stop). It was a experience from the start for it's outdated controls as if FS though the original PS1 controller was the end all of controllers with the later version with twin sticks being inferior which is why they never added them until the late end of AC games on the PS2. I was half engaged with the story but immersed for not being a chosen one in the narrative. Which is kind of the opposite in Daemon X Machina which had a similar story to 2 but made your character more special despite being a mute who shows no personality outside the lifeless mech they pilot. Also the story got in the way some times leading to events that went nowhere or some events feeling like detours to the story at large.

My biggest complaint was that the only mission you had enoguh credits to hire two consorts ( if one wasn't already provided) was "Defend the monorial."
Watching your videos, made me realize how terrible I was at customizing my AC until this game, and that I should have considered using human plus instead of slogging through the games without them. I did use OP intensify in this entry solely to collect the unlocks as I wanted to 100 percent the game before moving to silent line, but didn't use it in silent line. It would have been fun to try out.

AC 3 was my first game and man I had a lot of fun despite how terrible the controls could be sometimes lol. It was so immersive and I loved how it really made me feel like a pilot, the way the story is told not through cutscenes but the mission descriptions of the fucked up ways these companies are destroying themselves and the world. I couldn't put it down, and I ended up beating it this weekend. I just finished unlocking all the different OP-intensify functions. And even though it's broken, it makes the game feel a LOT better to play. Gonna take this save file straight into Silent Line. Nexus is by far my fav entry in the series, as I felt it learned the lessons of before (maybe I just got good after so many entries)
I tried AC4 in my college years and it really all felt too fast paced for me, like Gundam, not AC
I recently picked up ACVD and have been enjoying it. Got the first half of missions on S rank, but now I'm just an old man and hard to have energy or drive to finish the story.
Can't wait for your review on the remaining entries

Man this was one of the first games I got for the PS2 back in the day and my god this game was incredible. It's very immersive as you say, the whole time you're wondering what's going on and it just feels so cool and mysterious. I miss that kind of vibe that a lot of Japanese companies seemed to nail back on the PS2. Hell even the PS2 menu feels mysterious with the ambient ocean wave sounds.

My favorite strategy for the arena was to build a slow tank with overboost, and equip a flame thrower, then choose the factory stage. There was an alcove with a low ceiling that I'd immediately boost to. Eventually the opponent would end up in there with you, often standing on you. All you do then is flame him.

AC3 was my first real AC game, my friend had the PS1 demo disc (possibly from Play Station Magazine) that had the first one on it that gave like 3 missions, and more importantly VS mode
fast forward several years and that same friend rented AC3 for a week or something during the summer and was so mad at it that he just let me play it for awhile, since there were no cheats to unlock parts or anything
fast forward again to high school and my station neighbor in BCIS class mentioned Armored Core and i told him how i never got to actually play the game for more than just a few hours so he let me borrow his disc for a month, until i beat it... a bit sad that we never actually got to go against each other, because every one else i played with didn't like it because it was too hard.
Nexus was probably my favorite of the series, it having two discs really helped with multiplayer, as long as you or your friend had 2 TVs in relatively close proximity, and network cables... and a router (and since dial-up was still the norm at that time, i feel i was lucky to be able to get all the components)

For me the most nostalgic and memorable game in this series will always be Master of Arena, it was my first AC game so I might be abit biased. AC2 always felt too slow for me, one of the things I always liked about the ps1 games was how fast paced they were. AC3 felt like they were bringing the high speed back abit, but It's not till we get to my real favorite era, AC 4 and For Answer, which took high speed gameplay to the next level. I'm looking forward to your next entry in this overview series, but I'll be honest, I'm looking forward to your video on the AC4 era the most!

Oh right one thing you haven't gotten into yet is how you can customize your HUD. There is so much shit you can have on the HUD including an enemy AC display that will give you their loadout, ammo capacity and AP and I thought it had their heat and energy too. I always made my hud as busy as possible with the altimeter, elevation angle, heading and everything else to make it feel more like a mech simulator.

  • @Sorain1

It's fascinating thinking about how Silent Line is this direct sequel to AC3, as far as I recall it wouldn't be until... what, Verdict Day? That we would see another so clearly linked to the first. Even AC 4 to For Answer feels like it has more distance to me, at least in terms of plot. Calling AC3 a remaster of AC1 isn't unfair, it really is essentially a refined and less platform limited version of AC1.
Then again, I'm the silly fool that wrote up an outline of my 'ideal Armored Core Game' that was basically 'take the best ideas from all 4 games and put them in a single coherent plot.' I'm pretty sure it'd be a comedy to actually read that old document, I might even still have it somewhere on my computer...
Really look forward to Silent Line getting it's own video, it's an unexpected treat.

I love AC3, I have first in the series for me bias though. There is just enough from various categories that meshes together that makes it stand out. If another AC does get released I hope they will lean into the "you have made it this far and made this much money, enjoy your overpowered gun" the way Insomniac did in the Ratchet & Clank series. Give me the Karasawa and then let me buy the AC1 equivalent of it and shred everything. I enjoy your nonchalant delivery, thanks for making the vid.
