LED bulb clearance / beam adjustment failure - Land Rover Freelander 2
Просмотров 1 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Found that my beam adjustment motors on my new projector headlights were blowing the fuse. I wrongly diagnosed the cause as the back of the Philips Ultinon LED bulbs pressing against the rear covers, however, upon making some large inspection holes I found that there was actually loads of room!

I don’t understand why people think it’s clever to steal rear light clusters from other people’s cars? People have no life but to commit crime by stealing something that doesn’t belong to them….🙄🙄
Ill do that in the summer. What years are without the swirls, as ill look for some 2nd hand ones (without swirl)
As a general rule, facelift 2010-on are flap free. Evoque inlets are also suitable.
The grease is more for high impact areas, bolts, arms, springs etc.
Looks good can it program the keys like the autel
Not sure yet. I don’t think my Autel AL519 could do keys, but the bluetooth one can.

How many litres of coolant does it take?
According to google it is 8.5L for the 2.2L diesel. I’ve not drained mine to fully to confirm this.
I have one. Used once. Vehicle now sold. Selling mine if anyone interested
I could be interested…
I'm late to the party here but fuck me... when you started the engine and that bottle just emptied I was CRYYINNG with laughter 😂
Mr rpm gauge is sitting lower than the engine revs actually are. Any suggestions, worth changing the crank sensor?
Yeh, I would definitely change the crank sensor. That signal feeds the rev counter. Could be a faulty gauge but check the sensor first. Any lurching or fault codes?
@BeavisPits runs fine
I have the same model , first time I used it I had many historical faults . Probably from low battery in the past. I reset all faults and rescanned and only 1 fault reoccurred . DAB radio module. Which works.

I’m sure youtube will be able to translate my voice into Spanish sub-titles
Why didn't you just use the air filter box you got from E Bay as it had the factory rubber intact?
The factory rubber diaphragms are useless. So thin and flimsy. They either fall off or disintegrate. I wanted to find a better solution.
I have had one of these for a few years now. The slightly odd key press and F1/F2 interface issue is not great but the unit is pretty comprehensive. I have not found too many car performance perameters you can change using it but for info/diagnostics it does the job. Communication errors do give initially give a sense of JLR doom but all vehicles have them and are generally not a cause for concern. So many systems are interlinked so a Haldex fuse failure gives ABS/speed sensor codes etc. The live data is nice to see but the data can lead you off down many potential failure rabbit holes that do not exist.
That's a land rover for you haha. I own two and if the fault is historic then i don't worry, I only investigate the permanent fault codes. Most of the historic fault codes are caused by typical electrical gremlins or triggered by other fault codes that share the same canbus circuit.
Excellent...i bought one a week ago but not used it yet.
I have the same one and it threw up hundreds of faults so I did a reset and it came back with just 3 faults
How does it compare to Carly? I was thinking of getting the unlock for Nanocom, but blackbox won't really say what nanocom does with FL2 .
I also have a Freelander 2 from 2008 and I use Carly, but there is nothing more then reading live data and clearing errors For such a small Dongle it does the job really good with battery monitoring if you leave in the Port
A big thank-you to you, Beavis. This worked on a Halewood built, MY11 Freelander 2 Diesel 2.2 SD4. I used the first method to reset my dist/date/end ... but that didn't get rid of the visit dealer message. The bonnet unlatched with brake / accelerator pedal depressed worked (it took about 30-40 seconds). First try. I'd still like to purchase a diagnostics tool to clear some faults, but with so many to choose from I'd have to do some serious research as they're not cheap. Thanks mate. Great video.
Diagnostics video dropping tonight!
Many thanks, super helpful video. Took me less that 10 mins to change both headlights 👍
the rust that causes issues isnt on the outside ,, its the inside that needs sorting
Yes, this is why it’s important to spray as much as possible through the holes on the sills
This is like watching a senior get their first smart phone.
Ha, I struggled with this device, too modern, new fangled technology, had to swap it for an old style one with big buttons
i have LR2 2008 well maintained but all sudden its no Crank lights on Dashboard Lit but in Odometer Letter E ,Battery is new ,New Starter ,now key fob is stuck not coming out ,feel like may be Crash Mode ,any advise
Get a code reader on it asap. Try disconnecting the battery for a minute.
Is the crank sensor in the same place on the freelander td4
Not sure, never worked on an FL1.
@BeavisPits thanks I have found a manual and the location of it
She looks amazing man, thanks for your videos, mine just sailed through her MOT so i treat her to some all terrain tyres yesterday for costing me no money and today fumes coming into the cabin and while investigating noticed the bottom of the intercooler has gone and how badly mine needs Lanoguarding 😞
Brilliant really useful video. Thank you
Just brought a freelander 2 and have discovered your channel. Great work and love your videos
Thanks! Welcome to the club!

Great video….helped me out well. Thank you
coluld u sy to me with scre i use to replace the one used on back handle, i lost one, but i dont know with one to replace? please
Not sure what you’re asking here. The bolt size for the back of the handle?
Could be that your turbo actuator has a sticking point happens to my fiat if i leave it fot months without driving it, that spirited driving possibly moves actuator passed its usual operating position position so when you back off the throttle actuator doesn't move turbo vanes back because its stuck and registars a over boost, just a thought.
Yeh, could be something like that
Well done! Finally, I found a clear and straight tutorial video on reconnecting my iPhone to my Freelander 2.
Just fixed mine inside 10 minutes using your instructions. I couldn't find a paper clip so I uses a metal keyring of about the same thickness and cut a small piece off. Bent it into a horseshoe shape and shoved it in there. I then used a bit of silicone sealant to plug up the socket so that it's fully water tight. My alarm kept going off and displaying the 'bonnet open' message. It's completely cured the issue. Thing is I am a heavy sleeper so if mines been going off at night I wouldn't hear it. But I have caught it going off several times while I'm awake over the past week. Thank you for your videos. I absolutely love my Freelander 2 it's a pleasure to drive and at 130k with extensive service history I hope she lasts alot longer for me.
Scott sorry yo jump on an old video but do you still recommend the Philips ultinon bulbs for dip beam? Ive got late facelift headlamps and the light output is poor. Ive tried cheap led bulbs but the spread of light is poor. Any recommendations appreciated thanks.
Yes, still recommend the Philips, been running them for 8 months now and still working very well.
@@BeavisPits thanks for that, mine are HB3 bulbs I'll have a look now for some ultinon 9100 then👍
Conscious Scott: "I'll be keeping this one to 20 mins or less" Unconscious Scott: "Hold my beer" 😂 Good to have you back mate. 👍 Don't get disheartened by the officious idiots of the world mate...they're not worth your mind space.
Thank you for the great feedback, really helps with my motivation!
have you installed the muddy mods lift kit 40/50 ? if you installed it, have you ecuntered any vibration problem or gerabox issue ?
No, I installed my own 20/30 polyurethane lift kit which I used to make and sell. No issues seen with my spacers but they are not as thick as MM spacers.

Good that you're back! Regarding the brake pads, I never really likes Mintex nor EBC. I use Brembo Sport, and they are silent, and bite a lot better. Cheers.
Ok update on MF 943, flatdog were doing a weekend offer £240 for a 5mm ally one, (thanks to Tricky from NWN4X4 for sending me the link)grabbed myself a bargin. However, this vid should come with a health warning to those of us over 50 as laying on a stone driveway under wheel ramps makes you go giddy 😅, secondly, those handbrake clamps are absolute sods to line all three things up at once. Anyway shes on and all copper slipped up, no more worring Greenlaning. Cheers Bevispits 👍🏻
Did you need to support the engine to carry out the job
Nope, very easy to do, watch the videos and you’ll see
Good to get an update Scott! I couldn't agree more on protecting your design rights. I am sure most people just don't realise what they are asking but they wouldn't expect you to give away the parts you make so why think the designs are free? A couple of comments on other stuff you covered: For your front brakes I think the spring clip on the outside of the caliper is fitted wrong. I believe it is supposed to hook behind the caliper bracket so it pulls the caliper in towards the axle. As you have it (at 24:03 in the video) you have it pushing the caliper away from the axle. I don't know if that will make any difference to the pad rattle but worth a look. Also, on the Mayle HD drop links. As you surmise, the HD bit is the ball joints themselves. The bars and threaded ends don't need to be uprated, they won't fail. Not that I am trying to stop you fitting the ally jobs, they certainly look the part 👍
Look forward to the drop link video. Followed you in fitting the Philips Ultinon LED dipped and main.. Wow! Yes it is a few quid but proper bright. Your H7 clips worked a treat! 👍
Just watched VLOG5 yesterday, enjoyed it so much I went back and watched VLOG1 and am now in the process of rewatching all 5. Watching your videos is like standing next to a very knowledgeable technician and being amazed at their ability and knowledge. Keep on keeping on. Your dedication to the FL2 is so much appreciated and incredibly useful. Jeff
Thank you Jeff! Really nice to receive feedback like this!
Glad to see your back. Great video, very informative thank you. Those drop links look amazing but is there enough clearance from the back of the tyre? Looking forward to you fitting them in an upcoming video.
Not sure yet if they will fit or not. I hope they do as very expensive!
Twenty minutes 😂🤣😅 Good to have you back. Love your work. 👍👍👍
Hope you swr your cb arial in
Good to see you back
Do you get much road noise with your all terrain tyres?
No, hardly any
@BeavisPits cheers, mine will need changing in the next 12 months.
So glad you’ve made a return!!!!😊😊😊
If the pads are loose maybe the metal clip on the back of the pad that pushes into the caliper is broken as that should stop the pad rattling
Isn’t that on inboard pad only?
@@BeavisPits yes and the large long spring on the outside holds the outer pad you said that was okay so I made a suggestion without seeing the pads in place it is difficult to say but if the pads and clips are fine it is odd for them to rattle
Yes, it is a bit strange. I can’t remember if there are anti-rattle shims on the front brake pads. I know the rears have them as I had to buy wider ones when I fitted the vented discs on the back. I’ll take the wheel off this weekend and have a closer look.
