This is one of my favourite video so far that you finally got projector headlights especially the Philips Ultinon LED in dip!!!!😊 Projector headlights are way better and brighter than non projector (reflector) especially with LEDs in so they will be zero glare and nice and bright! I had a pair of aftermarket projector with LEDs in and it passed through its MOT. As long projector units are CE or E marked then it’s completely road legal and passes the MOT. Although like you and I said before the MOT tester are not allowed to start taking the headlamp apart to check whatever the bulbs are E marked. All they need to do is check the aim and beam pattern is correct using the headlamp screen.
I got the Auxito LED H7 bulbs for both dipped and high beam, the beam pattern is spot on. Never got a flash and wipe the floor with anything halogen or Xenon. Cost £90 for 2 pairs. It is literally like daylight now 😎 I have the same first gen headlights as you (non projector)
Good video. Just the other day, I looked up these new Philips super expensive LED bulbs, and SOME of them are MOT'able, but no Freelander " mentioned. Btw. your old head lamps are NOT beyond repair, as new front glasses can be bought and installed. "For once I bought something that actually works!"... Priceless ;) Kind regards.
Beavis can I just say that those bulbs are so much better and so much whiter than yellow halogen bulbs and that made me so happy that you said I was right! I really hope those will work a lot better at night rather than run Osram Nightbreaker 200 or Philips DiamondVision etc. The Philips Ultinon are so expensive but they are well worth it!😊
@@BeavisPits You’re more than welcome!😊 I love watching your videos on light bulbs especially LEDs and I have been a subscriber for a while and I enjoy watching them!
That cover could be modified with a 3D extending cap. Pop a hole in it where the bulb hits it and 3D print a cap to cover it. It would also help with the fans efficiency having more room for air movement. Would only need to be 5-10mm.
I've just done a similar upgrade. My FL2 is a preface 2010 with d1s hid dip and h7 main... (which seems quite rare). Changed the standard osram D1s xenon for led and the difference is incredible. Gives a similar output to a new range rover. Some may say too bright but.. They appear to keep the same pattern etc... Waiting on reaction from other drivers if I keep them or not? Then maybe replace the h7 with led too rather than fitting lightbars etc
Its not just some boy racers with stupidly bright lights these days....alot of manufacturers new cars such as Tesla have way to bright headlights that are almost like full been at some angles! Headlights have just got way out of hand.
Oh can I say that I hate keep getting blinded by Tesla or Range Rover headlights that their aim is too high up, far too bright that I had no choice but to pull my main beam at them to dim their lights down! Some ignorant people don’t even care! They just flash their lights back at ya!😖😖
Afternoon... just bought a pair of the ultinon to go into the later facelitfted lights (where a single H11 is used for both the dip and the full beam). Should I be put off by the "Not suitable for use on public roads" label on the box? Don't suppose you've taken yours through an MOT yet?
Have a watch of my LED bulbs video part 1. I look at the regulations. Technically a fail but only if the tester can clearly see you have LED dip beam. Main is fine if separate. Yours are shared so the dip regs apply. I’ve not been for an MoT yet. May swap to standard bulbs for the test.
Scott sorry yo jump on an old video but do you still recommend the Philips ultinon bulbs for dip beam? Ive got late facelift headlamps and the light output is poor. Ive tried cheap led bulbs but the spread of light is poor. Any recommendations appreciated thanks.
What are those h7 bulb fittings adapters and where can I get some? I did buy some h7 LEDs for main beam on my pre-facelift lights but the clip that holds them in won't work with LEDs with fans. I guess this is the solution
I bought them on ebay and had to modify them slightly to work with my LEDs. I’ll talk about these in my next video. In the meantime, this may help… www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283188327418?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=1cNcucJ6SNO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=3rl5rwijqno&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
From my experience the later shutter type do not like brighter, hotter lamps as they get too hot and fut out pretty quickly or in my case explode within the fitting leaving molten glass embedded into the plastic within the unit. Even when they were working they were not a real improvement (OSRAM Nightbreakers)
This is one reason why I avoided the shutter type. I also don’t like the idea of running a shared bulb. If it fails you lose dip and main. More light output on the twin bulb type as dip is kept lit when on main beam.
Beavis, could I ask you a question? I need to change the hand brake gaiter, and how do I get the handle off on a 2007 aut? I can't see any little tap to depress or something else. And I cannot pull it off. Advice is very much appreciated. Kind regards.
@@BeavisPits Thanks. There are differenced between pre and facelifted cars. So found out. On a 2007 like mine, you don't need to remove the handle at all. Just slip the gaiter over the handle, change it on it's plastic frame and glue on a new one, having sanded the now real leather thinner around the edge, so it's got room to slip into the mounting. Voila. Job done.
Bulbs or bolts? Here are the bulbs… amzn.eu/d/0ju9q0J Be aware that with the back cover fitted it is too tight for the beam adjustment motor to operate. I will cover this in a video very soon.

I think HID was also an option on the older twin halogen headlights. The shared bulb shutter type only came in with DRL which was much later in UK, but maybe earlier in Sweden as it is law to use lights in the day.

Yes, still recommend the Philips, been running them for 8 months now and still working very well.

Yeh, seems element bulbs are very expensive these days. £43 for one Lucas bulb. Similar price to the Philips Ultinons which were £100 a pair.
I could collect your old headlights I am only in Ash🙂
Sorry, the bin men collected them this morning
