  • Two part video series showing renewal of the engine mounting stabiliser bars, also known as tie-bars/tie-rods/torque-rods/dog-bones.
In this video, I try the stiffer black “race only” inserts.
    Powerflex part numbers
    Upper insert PFF88-1030BLK
    Lower insert PFF88-1130BLK

    Another good tutorial Scott.
Mine (MY14 without inserts currently) doesn't seem to vibrate at the wheel but I have noticed some slight deterioration around the upper rubber so might just replace with OEM.
Wasnt gonna mention (but now I obviously have) your torque settings will be all to cock anyway once you've applied copper grease to the bolts.
    [Runs away quick...😂]

Yes, still trying to get my head around the reduced torque thing. As I understand it, the bolt will screw in further if lubricated, so less torque is required to get the same clamping force, however, the actual torque experience by the shaft of a bolt is the same regardless of thread lubrication.

@BeavisPits Lots of calculations out there on t'web based on bolt diameter, length and thread type/pitch, but as a rule of thumb if I lube a normally dry fastener I normally reduce the torque by 25%

Just a note on the tank as I found it difficult to get mine out of the way when replacing the support. I disconnected the wire going to the sensor underneath, and that allowed me to move the tank enough to get out out of the way without disconnecting anything else.

Did the new mounts and inserts give smoother gear changes also or was it more engine firmness?

Just wondering why you didn't change the main engine mount LR021635. Done my lower one last week that was knackered, haven't done the stiffener's as yet tho. May still do that after changing top mounts.
