  • Two part video series showing renewal of the engine mounting stabiliser bars, also known as tie-bars/tie-rods/torque-rods/dog-bones.
    I also add some PowerFlex yellow stiffening inserts to improve the handling and responsiveness.
    In part 2, I try the stiffer black “race only” inserts.
    Powerflex part numbers
    Upper insert PFF88-1030
    Lower insert PFF88-1130
    Engine mount part numbers
    Upper LR000597
    Lower LR039527

    Hi have done both, made a great difference, but had to remove the lower Yellow insert as the amount of squeaks and rattles I got was incredible, removed it and they disappeared. Still think its a great mod and the top is still in place, but am going to identify all the special effects i got with it in lol. Also replaced all the lower bolts due to the high torques, only 15 euro so no probs. Great video as alway enjoy...

      Thanks Michael, I found similar with black lower insert. Whole car was shaking! I found yellow lower and black upper is ok, but it is a personal preference and no doubt varies from car to car.

    Just done the bottom mount and it’s made a world of difference, the original was totally shot when I took it off. Did the top a few months ago. Big recommendation to anyone with an lR2. It took some manipulating to get the new one lined up but well worth it.

    Torque spec is 110Nm for both bolts on the upper mount

      Haynes is a bit ambiguous on this. It states 110 and 100Nm. Both sound unnecessarily high as neither are in tension and the front bolt is threaded into aluminium.

      @BeavisPits I have the original Workshop manual and it says 110Nm for upper and 100 or 110 for the lower bolts. Changed the upper today and tightend to that torque with no problems

    Hi Scott,
    Do the mounts / stabilising rods need replacing really? Or can you just insert the Polly bushings.

      Wow the conditions of the lower mount was bad, I will check mine.

      Replace if worn out like my lower mount. My upper was good enough to re-use.

    Could the pipe not be tapped or capped to stop the leak when removing the expansion tank or use some a clamps to pinch the tubes closed?

    • @BeavisPits
      @BeavisPits  2 месяца назад

      Tubes are rigid so not clampable. Could be capped with a small rubber bung or something.

    • @praetorian65
      @praetorian65 2 месяца назад

      Removing them isn't essential. I was able to replace the top mount without removing the tubes.

      @BeavisPits  2 месяца назад

      @@praetorian65 it varies from car to car, sometimes the tubes have enough slack to allow the tank to be lifted.
