not sure what you saying here.... USE different channel Strips? you dont even have to use them anymore, yes u can add some color, but u can add same color with a distortion. In some mixes i use channel strip, in others I use single plugings, in Other the recording is so good, that i only need a compressor, not even EQ. so.. I think you going wrong here...

After having this drum library since its release the one thing im not a fan of is the cymbal round robins. They can get kinda robotic even woth humanize on.

I think all of this hype around chasing the rabbit in terms of strictly copying what the pros use and do is counter-intuitive to the creativity inherent to making music. As long as you're abiding by the core fundamentals, why not just build upon them by implementing your own flavors? Additionally, while its great to have all of this information at our fingertips, it's easy to get lost in a feedback loop of analysis paralysis because you're shifting the blame caused by lack of experience and training to the plugins and techniques that you use or don't use. Stop chasing, stop thinking, stop deflecting, and start training. More importantly... start being creative.

You want to "make it" mixing or whatever in the music industry? Don't worry one bit about what any "big time" engineer says or does. You're not them, don't try to be. You wanna try little tips ad tricks, fine, but don't try to do what they're doing. First off, you'll never recreate the sound of whatever it is they're talking about. It doesn't matter if you had everything down to the exact length of cables they use, every other contributing factor from the room size down to the humidity in the air will be different. Not too mention, the artist will be different, the song will be different, and your ears are different. Also, let's not forget, the gear that you're using, I'll bet you'd think, or at least say, that it is just perfect for whatever the application had the stereo pair in your studio been delivered totally free of charge along with the check you get for endorsing them. Stop trying to imitate somebody else and explore who you are. Yes, you have know the gear you're working with, but if you haven't mastered the person that's operating the gear first, forget it. Noone wants the poor man's anybody. If you're trying to be like someone else, you're not being yourself. If you're not tapped into who you are as a human being, your mixes, recordings, song writing, or whatever it is you're doing, will always lack what's needed for people to truly be able to connect with the music.

Better mixes are simple. A/B the sounds you like on albums put them together and boom you’ll like the mix once you set the relative volumes right.
