Like go-karts, mini bikes, and all things small engine? Keep reading!
OMB Warehouse is proud to present The Gray Goat Garage! This is the place where our mini bike and go-kart guru features how-to videos, awesome builds, and goes live. We do weekly Q&As and are always looking for suggestions.
Who are we?
Well... there's Eric. He's the main man in the videos. He's the one you talk to at OMB Warehouse when you ask for technical help on your builds. He knows a lot and wants to share that knowledge with everyone.
There's also Viki... that's me. Full time, I run OMB Warehouse. Part time, I give Eric a lot of flack (it's a fun side gig) and I maintain this channel. If you love or hate something about it, I want to know.
What kind of tutorials do you need to get your build going? What else do you want to see? Tell us and we will oblige!
We go live once a week and will be adding videos all the time. Like us, share, and subscribe!

Throttle kit for ungoverned Predator 212 and Clone engines
This throttle kit is only for ungoverned engines with stock style carbs.
This allows the stock gas tank to remain on the engine unlike a top plate linkage
Here is the part I am installing
www.ombwarehouse.com/throttle-assembly-for-ungoverned-engines-gx200-predator-212.html
Please use billet flywheels and rods in ungoverned engines. The stock parts are not designed for higher than governed rpm use and can fail!

Predator 459 exposed

I tore apart a Predator 459 to see what all the hype was about This engine created a lot of buzz because of the oil pump and the large size This a good engine for industrial use when the governor is intact Only the aftermarket cam fit this engine. How to remove a flywheel key from the crank

Catch Can mystery revealed
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
A catch can is merely a remote vent for the engine…nothing special here! High performance and even stock engines create internal pressure and must be vented. If an engine is sealed the internal pressure can blow oil from the gaskets and seals. A catch can capture that oil so it does not get on the track! www.ombwarehouse.com/strut-mount-catch-tank.html We have the breather filters here www.ombw...

What you need to know before building a Predator 224
Просмотров 32 тыс.2 года назад
The Predator 224 is a “stroker” engine and the build needs to be done differently than a 196/212cc build and we can’t just slap parts together. Bust out the Dremel and take your time. We have a section just for the Predator 224 www.ombwarehouse.com/performance-parts/predator-performance-parts/predator-224-max-performance/
Support your local header! Keep from cracking your pipe!
Просмотров 3 тыс.2 года назад
Header support is often overlooked. These engines have a lot of vibration which can break your header or even pull out the head studs! This is easy to do and does not take much time. Pre made universal fit brackets universally fit nothing. Make a header brace specific to your bike and never worry about breaking a header again

Thank u
My man! Just what I was looking for.
Hola
Do you have the link for the plastic side cover ?
www.ombwarehouse.com/camshaft-installation-tool.html
@@TheGrayGoatGarage thank you sir
Impact go brrrrrrrrr
I have this same clutch. Used it for 15 miles and now the bushing keeps binding up whenever I idle. Its been oiled but I'm at a loss as to how it already wore out. Now it only starts and stays running if I pedal start it and it sounds absolutely horrible.
@@mitchellfultzable Hilliard wants to see a 6 to 1 gear ratio with tires at 14” or less in height. I am sure you do not have that ratio! Sand the shoes and inside the drum with 320 grit sandpaper and clean it with wd40. This is only a temporary solution and you will be doing it a lot!
@@TheGrayGoatGarage its the clutch that came with my phatmoto. Not sure what the ratio is
So do I have to remove the engine to remove the clutch? If not how do I get the chain off ?
There's a master link in chain comes off, don't lose them, !
You do not have to remove the engine, just the clutch!
hi can you help with a surging engine? Kawasaki fs600v. New carb, new fuel pump, dont know what else. New plugs, fresh fuel.
So I want to add a pulse pump to my stock Predator 420. I'm looking at buying the Carb Insulator with vacuum port (rather than taping the engine myself), and buying a pump to pull gas from a stand-alone tank. This is for a pressure washing setup, not for racing. Which pump should I buy with the Carb Insulator?
Any pump will do, also you can buy a plastic piece for the motor that fits with stock motor. It has the pulse barb already on it and you’ll still be able to run stock carb etc .
@@user-hp6sp3qg2q That's what I meant by the "Carb Insulator with vacuum port". They sell it on the OMBWarehouse website. I was just checking on the best type of pump. There is a regular one and a "high output" pump on that website.
We have the Walbro pumps here www.ombwarehouse.com/walbro-fuel-pump.html and the insulator with the pulse port www.ombwarehouse.com/carb-insulator-with-vacuum-port-gx390-predator-301cc-420cc.html The fitting on the insulator os for 3/16" line and the pump uses 1/4" line. Use this to adapt the two www.ombwarehouse.com/1-4-to-3-16-fuel-line-reducer.html
@@TheGrayGoatGarage Awesome! Where exactly does the insulator go?
@@TheGrayGoatGarage Also, just put my order in for those parts. Thanks again!
That belt looks too tight and your clutch is on backwards
The driver unit can work in either direction. It does not matter which way it is mounted on the crank. The belt is the correct length for that application
That's AMAZING! Vernon just told me about these the other day. For years I was discarding my 196's. I'm going to try and spread the word in the forums, this is an amazing product!
I am restoring an engine. (It’s just a clone 196cc) and noticed that it has aluminum push rods. I think I would rather have steel pushrods in it though. I have a spare clone 163cc that has steel pushrods. The aluminum rods are 0.0035 shorter than the steel rods. Would it be ok for me to swap them? Is that a big enough difference to warrant not swapping or will this difference not be a problem? Thanks for any help.
That is such a minimal difference that it will be fine!
Hi Eric, what can I do to stop my primary from grabbing the belt @ idle tried a new belt same issue idle is set as low as I can go duramax 440, I put into a b200r coleman thanks I'm puzzled
We can change the springs in the driver to the red springs to get the driver to engage at 2000 rpms www.ombwarehouse.com/comet-40-series-red-springs-set-of-3.html
Just got mine from GPS. They advertised bolts but did not include them. Saweeet.
Great video, exactly what I was looking for!
"It should only go in one way, unless you have a large hammer" 🤣
that is so wrong first of all it should be grease not oil
Grease will not get absorbed into the bronze bushing and is not recommend for any bronze bushing clutch
what is the biggest jet jet b jet c jet d that come with the motor thank you
The biggest jet does not matter. You have to get the correct jet for your engine! Bigger jets do not make more power, that would just create a rich condition that would lose power!
Another excellent helpful video Eric!! Thanks for making your videos, I have used a number of them. I just today followed your video to make and install a header brace on my Coleman CT200U-EX which you have been helping out on some things over the years... Recently my stage 3 upgrade kit, which parts specifically for my specific enginge and needs. The part that especially helped me was how you twisted the bracket using a cresent wrench, I did the same. You rock!!
wear do you get your wildcat from
www.ombwarehouse.com/wildcat-223cc-performance-engine-wc223.html
Do you need to offset the rings 180 degrees out???
Each rings slot I mean
@@joshuaboey366 Yes, I set my ring gaps 180 degrees apart. and have the end gaps by the pin. This is something that has been debated for years about what is the proper way. This may not be what everyone does, but it works for me.
How can I get one of those sleeves 5/8 to 3/4
The issue with using a 3/4” sleeve is that the key that is built in will not engage into the crank and not recommended That is why we went from 16MM to 1”
Cool
Can you attach a go kart transmission with reverse gear?
Anything is possible! Just not easily Most reverse boxes would use a driven unit in the input shaft
@TheGrayGoatGarage the one I'm looking at has been tested for the 30 series torque converter but not the 40 series.
He’s the Tom Brady of honda clones
Hey now! Thank you! I did not let any air out of my footBALLS though!
Man I want your number lol I would love to pick your brain I live in philly I work at shop not to far from omb
Great info
Do you have a part number for the spacer you put over the adapter sleeve before installing the clutch? They sent me a 3/4” one.
www.ombwarehouse.com/spacer-1-id.html
Thank you!
I got a 224 with billet rod flat top piston and a tts thunderstix ghostbuster camshaft and 26lb springs and I’m getting bad kickback I clearanced the cam and crank a bunch and it’s always very hard to pull I set my lash good nothing is hitting idk what the issue is
Valve lash! If you pull the spark plug out and it pulls over fine, reset the lash! Set at .002” on both sides and make sure you are at TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke 99.9% of the time loose lash is the issue!
The gray sell out, your OMB wharehouse they tell you what they want and like a lap dog, you do it😢😮😊.
Boy i don't like grinding on a cam what so ever. You know for what they're sticking us for on the cost of a replacement cam they should be able to clean them up, to justify that higher cost on them😢. And you know as well as anyone that cam is going to fail, not if it may fail it's when it's going to fail😢.
DynoCams did not offer clearanced cams when that video was made. We do have cams now that are clearanced and have a thinner decompression spring www.ombwarehouse.com/performance-parts/predator-performance-parts/predator-224-max-performance/cams/ Most engines with 58mm cranks can use these cams with zero clearance issues
It seem like an allusions, at the start you spun the crank and that engine, with the rod and piston just flowed around smooth ly. Now everone wanted that. Only to tell us all, you left the rings out. What a D.A.
Hi Chuck, Thanks for the feedback. This was done just to check the clearance inside the block. The rings do not matter! If you can make a video and link it here that may be helpful for others. Please share the link to your video. Thank you
When you had that predator 212 hemi valve cover in your hand with the pulse fitting already on it. 3:48 what do you do with the little side hole where the original airbox slid on to?
Sorry I read down further and you had answered that question. A simple tube with small air filter on it with work fine on that hemi breather hole off to the side
I use a small filter on that www.ombwarehouse.com/breather-filter-12mm.html
How long should a belt last?
2 days to 2 years! It depends on how the torque converter is installed, the engine, and the gearing choice. Install it right and you could get 6 months from a belt.
What size bolts are for the cover. We bought a project bike and came with cover but no bolts
The aftermarket converters use an M6-1.0 x 10mm bolt for the cover
I don’t understand the flywheel key paper you showed… where do I line it up?
Rotate the flywheel forward until it contacts the key and then torque the flywheel down. Once you see the key this will make sense to you!
Awesome explanation. Could you make a video on how to convert a top mount fuel tank to a separate tank under the steering axe? I haven't found any instructions on what parts I need or how the fuel system works on a predator this is the closest
That would be very hard to do for a specific kart and having a "one size fits all" approach is not the best way to do that anyway. Send me some pics of the kart to Help@OMBWarehouse.com and I will do my best to help you
@@TheGrayGoatGarage thanks for the reply. I mean as an example on these types of engines (predator 212, 224, and clones) which come top mounted.
Recommendations on what size carb i should order for a 212cc engine? I got a 26mm carb and it only idles high and wants to runaway from me. I was thinking of going down to a 24mm, but I'm wondering should i go down to 22mm instead?
Can you use a belt with the set up instead of chain?
I am not sure what you mean by that. The torque converters use a belt between the two clutches and then a chain to the axle sprocket. I am not aware of a pulley for a belt that will go in the torque converter
It's told me nothing about tuning my carburetor 😮
That is why the video says "Mikuni Install" and not "Mikuni tuning".
Going to try this today after yesterdays defeat. I was setting valve lashes terribly wrong.
Thanks for very necessary info😊
Broke my bolt due to this 🤦🏻
150 inch pounds not ft
I tightened that rear nut down like you did and there’s still a little bit of play and I can’t get it any tighter because the whole pulley starts turning
Hold the pulley tighter!
@@TheGrayGoatGarage I’m a pretty strong guy and it won’t let me go any further.
Hey buddy could you make a new video of this for us newbies up close? I couldn’t see what you were doing with it exactly 👍🏼
Whats that tool called
The "feeler gauge"?
So, just a couple drops of oil on the bushing, and clean with wd-40 is all the maintenance we need on these?
Yes. It does not take much to keep these working well for years!
I have never seen the exhaust valve lash smaller than the intake valve lash... now quit mething around .... 2 snug on the exhaust that's going to hang open?... am I wrong?
You are incorrect. These engines, unlike automotive liquid cooled engines, expand whey warmed up causing lash to increase. Set both sides at zero if you are confident in your mechanics skills!
I tell people that think they don't need a brace to make a video of their bike running and rev it a few times. You will see your header flopping around like a wet noodle.
9:18 30,000 o ok
