Did my discovery 2 weeks ago and start classes Oct 7. I love seeing these first lesson videos. Keep them up :)
Good luck with your ppl!
This nice . It Alan Sinclair. It['s all solid state. No movies parts.
cant wait to train on this beauty
Now cost analysis....
My first landing (C172), I bounced 4 times until the instructor told me to take it around. Debrief he commented "...you were just bouncin' up & down that runway like a happy puppy".
We all have to start somewhere.
amazing instructor
excellent work for the young student! he did well and also excellent tuition from his instructor! and a nice clear video. cheers for sharing and best wishes from NZ
I have always wanted to visit NZ. Maybe some day I'll brave the 20+ hour flight. Thanks for watching.
@@diamondstarpilot you are welcome Sir and best of luck .
Great job kid!

Very easy plane to fly.
Awesome landing
That “I’m gonna smack you” was personal 😂😂😂 2:48
As a flight simmer and pilot student, I can assure you flying IRL is easier than flightsim a VFR flight, IRL you have a bunch of senses to help you out, the feedback of the yoke, how your body gets jerked around, in the sim you only have your vision to get infos, which can make it overwhelming in critical phases such as landing where you want to adjust everything as quickly as possible.
Student pilot and avid flight simmer here too. Yep, IRL is definitely easier. Many think IRL is harder because you actually care if you crash the airplane. In the sim you're way less cautious and accept a lot of stuff that you wouldn't IRL. Taxiing a Diamond IRL is a pain though. That one is easier in the sim.
I actually did a discovery flight in a light sport and have around 150h in MSFS on GA planes. Well the first 30 minutes were pretty hardcore for me because of all the updrafts and downdrafts and the wind gusting 10kts. I had the stick and the instructor everything else and it was really difficult to maintain heading and altitude. I guess it's easier to get into oscilations IRL as it is in the sim where fighting the wind does the job whereas in reality you are banking +-15 deg constantly. After that I became used to it but it certainly required a transition from SIM flying. Hoping on starting my PPL soon though.
it really depends. I primarily used the SR22 in the sim, with its nice G1000 + autopilot suite, but I learned to fly with a C152, zero screens, with a good ol' six pack. That was a lot harder for me, since trimming with your hands with much more delay on the V/S gauge makes settling in a tad harder. It's easier to find places on the ground though.
Flight simulator is a video game and contributes nothing towards flight training.
lmfao
If used properly it definitely can be used as a tool to aid flight training
I have been flying since 13 and have simming since 10. I completely disagree. I have been checkride prepped and ready since I was 15 and I have improved significantly and became extremely comfortable and knowledgeable of my aircraft through vatsim and X-Plane. So Michael Pare stop hating on this person and spreading misinfo about autopilots, DPE's, and checkrides and be supportive. I really never got support either and this shit hurts BAD.
Flights sims can be quite helpful when integrated into a complete training plan. Xplane is the backbone of several Basic Aviation Training Devices (BATD) which when used with an instructor can count toward required flight hours on several certificates. While nothing beats actual flight time, gaining familiarity with controls, systems and techniques in a quieter more controllable environment can be a valuable tool.
try dcs combat world, or x plane, if you dont know the ins and out you wont even be able to start the plane
Enjoy your videos and LOVING my 2008 DA40. Now that the weather is cooperating better, the hours are cranking away -- 78 hrs since the end of January when we got it. Really is a great aircraft. And the GFC700 is mindblowing.
Thanks for watching and congratulations on the new plane. I wish I had a GFC700 but, my old KAP140 gets the basic jobs done for the most part.
@@diamondstarpilot The 700 is a crutch but I will take it. It is really good and is nearly done trying to kill me. Nearly.
Really nice video. I’m always happy to see us pilots passing the torch to our younger generations. Thanks for sharing. By the way, I’m flying to the NG to Concord July 20th.
Let me know what time you will be there. Maybe we can hook up for a few minutes.
Thanks so much for this opportunity. I had a great time and learned a lot. Thanks again! -Benjamin
You did a great job! Let me know when you are ready to show off your skills again.
Nice job and kudos to the student pilot for being the x-wind guinea pig
Very nice…articulate & accurate. This helps me become a better DA40 driver, for sure
Great instructional vid, as always.
My brother recently purchased an NG, and I'm loving watching your videos to learn about the aircraft. You guys were entertaining!
Really great to see how this is done for real. As im only a sim pilot with limited real-world flying experience, videos like this I find very valuable. All the best, Alan.
Both of them good enough
The NG has about 30 minutes of powered flight after the alternator fails.
Is that a joke?
The ECUs require power to run the engine. The main battery can run those for about 30 min. There is also a backup battery for ECU B that will provide an additional 30 minutes. So, you have 30-60 mins before the engine shuts down. This is similar to having two e-mags installed in a non FADEC system.
Hi :) how do you fix the gopro below the wing?
I mount it to the tie down ring. There are several commercial mounts available to do this but, I built mine for about half the price using this video: ruclips.net/video/Q6Qt1LNJR5I/видео.htmlsi=WybicatGAqfDnJ7y
After non flight for 25+ years, the da40 was a joy to fly. I did get reprimanded by ATC prior to T/O for having squeezed the mike button on the stick while exclaiming to my passengers "that's the reason for the TFR" as VP Pence was landing at an airport very close to my departure airport!
That controller has a great radio voice
Can you do a video about aiming points in the DA40? Aiming points are a pretty crucial thing that I’m sort of struggling with.
I touch on aiming points in the current video "Airplane Landing Lesson For Beginners". Let me know if you need a more in depth explanation.
@@diamondstarpilot Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. I got aiming points down a few weeks back but I’ll definitely review your new video. Thanks again.
Wow very patient instructor. Unprepared student tho....
Does a CFI ever just say, "Hey, you don't have it"
Best channel
Definitely helps me out with my own DA40 landings. Reinforcing the importance of a stabilized approach is the biggest thing I've negated to implement. I usually come in too fast or high, which leads to a bounce and then a go-around. Some other things too I noticed with your student that I've been doing is forcing the plane down even while in flare. This leads to a bounce, or at best a hop like shown in the video. Thank you for the video and all the camera action. It really helps visualize what I've been doing incorrectly and will be something I'll keep in mind next flight.
Just found your channel, and I’m glad I did!!! I’m 12 hrs in at a 141 and have been flying the DA-40. My issue is maintaining center line on takeoff and landings. We did some taxi training at an untoward airport and it helped. I start having a problem 15-20kts before Vr
Slow steady pressure on the rudder pedals is the key especially as the speed increases. Happy feet with quick changes will get you in trouble. You'll get the hang of it with some practice.
Awesome. Thanks! I will give it a try today. My CFI was telling me to use happy feet and that could be the problem I was having.
Yep, another landing he doesn't do great after scolding his student.
Olso look for cracks in between in the components that hold the moving parts on the plane. Example in beetween the ailerons. 😊
Exceeded the maximum landing flap speed on that slipped approach, would have been much safer to just make that a go around with all that speed
His landing was better than your attempt at a slip!
I wouldn't like learning under this guy. Your teaching style is not good.
Those winds are what I call a proficiency builder!
The checkout guy is flying a power on type of approach. The setup is; get slow and stable, add power to maintain alt.. I prefer energy management over throttle pumping. The pilot is not comfortable in slow flight. needs to work on that... All those speeds for the pattern should be defined as power settings!
Private was more fun and engaging. Well done DSP.
It is hard to win when GA is competing with a direct flight. Add a connection and that changes things.
need a faster plane
I enjoy your videos. Your DA40 is the same as the DA40 (268DS) I flew last summer with CFIs at KROC, where I live now. Waiting on the FAA for a special issuance and then at age 64 I hope to complete the flying I started as a teenager learning to fly a 152 before I learned to drive! Flying the DA40 is so much fun and there’s always that ramp appeal… I’ve saved your videos to a playlist so when I get the 3rd class medical I’ll be using my XPlane simulator every day, studying for the PP “written” and consulting your videos for reference to compliment my work with the CFIs.
I also wanted to fly as a kid but, it took me until I was 50 to get the ball rolling. Stick with it and you'll get there. Glad my videos are helping you on your journey. The DA40 is great platform to learn in. Thanks for watching.
Would u please explain FAF at an altitude and not the HACNI VOR?
Precision approaches (ILS, LPV) use a glide slope for vertical guidance whereas non precision approaches (LNAV, LNAV/VNAV) use waypoints with assigned minimum altitudes for vertical guidance. When flying a precision approach , you are only concerned with staying on the glideslope (the waypoints have no bearing on your altitude) so, the FAF is altitude based rather than waypoint based. On the approach plate, the lightening bolt indicates the final approach fix (altitude) for a precision approach and the Maltese cross indicates the final approach fix (waypoint) for a non precision approach. Hope this helps.
@@diamondstarpilot so clear sir thank you so much! I like your videos by the way ☺️
Full prop? I haven't found a prop lever yet in my Microsoft simulator on this model. Have always been wondering how the prop can be controlled if it is not by Fadec.
Some DA40s have a fixed pitch prop. Perhaps these are the models in MSFS.
the DA-40 in the sim is the NG model with the FADEC AE-300. this version is the XLT with the i0-360-M1A. its the traditional three lever setup
What do you think happened on that landing at the end? Seemed to me like there wasn't enough flare so the plane porpoised a bit.
I think you are correct. He touched down in a flat 3 point attitude and did not apply back pressure after touchdown to keep pressure off of the nose wheel. This resulted in a mini porpoise. This is a case where video is invaluable. Sometimes it is hard to diagnose problems from inside the cockpit but, the cause is quite clear on video.
Yep, would never have known it without the external camera.
Looking forward to Part 2!
You’re a great resource for DA40 pilots out there. Especially pilots who are new to the airframe. Trained in a 172 and soon after receiving PPL, transitioned to the Diamond this past year. Took me about 8 hours to get the hang of it. Hated it at first but now it’s my favorite. Question mark flow check is key! Keep up the good work.
Once you get over the DA40 learning curve, it's tough to go back to any other plane. Glad I could help.
Took off from JQF? I just took my first DA40 flight 2 weeks ago from there
I am based at JQF. What did you think of the DA40?
@@diamondstarpilot it was my first full glass experience and now I never want to touch a 6 pack again. My only gripe is I wish there was more shoulder room. At times it feels like I'm sitting on my instructors lap and I'm 5'9 🤣
Great video, but low speed and low altitude on final had me a little concerned.
