  • Benjamin has been a MSFS gamer for some time but, how does that compare to being a pilot in a real plane? There are plenty of videos of actual pilots trying MSFS but, how does a gamer do in a real plane? Let's find out.

You did a great job! Let me know when you are ready to show off your skills again.

As a flight simmer and pilot student, I can assure you flying IRL is easier than flightsim a VFR flight, IRL you have a bunch of senses to help you out, the feedback of the yoke, how your body gets jerked around, in the sim you only have your vision to get infos, which can make it overwhelming in critical phases such as landing where you want to adjust everything as quickly as possible.

Student pilot and avid flight simmer here too.
Yep, IRL is definitely easier. Many think IRL is harder because you actually care if you crash the airplane. In the sim you're way less cautious and accept a lot of stuff that you wouldn't IRL.
Taxiing a Diamond IRL is a pain though. That one is easier in the sim.

I actually did a discovery flight in a light sport and have around 150h in MSFS on GA planes. Well the first 30 minutes were pretty hardcore for me because of all the updrafts and downdrafts and the wind gusting 10kts. I had the stick and the instructor everything else and it was really difficult to maintain heading and altitude. I guess it's easier to get into oscilations IRL as it is in the sim where fighting the wind does the job whereas in reality you are banking +-15 deg constantly. After that I became used to it but it certainly required a transition from SIM flying. Hoping on starting my PPL soon though.

it really depends. I primarily used the SR22 in the sim, with its nice G1000 + autopilot suite, but I learned to fly with a C152, zero screens, with a good ol' six pack. That was a lot harder for me, since trimming with your hands with much more delay on the V/S gauge makes settling in a tad harder. It's easier to find places on the ground though.

Really nice video. I’m always happy to see us pilots passing the torch to our younger generations. Thanks for sharing. By the way, I’m flying to the NG to Concord July 20th.

Enjoy your videos and LOVING my 2008 DA40. Now that the weather is cooperating better, the hours are cranking away -- 78 hrs since the end of January when we got it. Really is a great aircraft. And the GFC700 is mindblowing.

Thanks for watching and congratulations on the new plane. I wish I had a GFC700 but, my old KAP140 gets the basic jobs done for the most part.

@@diamondstarpilot The 700 is a crutch but I will take it. It is really good and is nearly done trying to kill me. Nearly.

Flight simulator is a video game and contributes nothing towards flight training.

I have been flying since 13 and have simming since 10. I completely disagree. I have been checkride prepped and ready since I was 15 and I have improved significantly and became extremely comfortable and knowledgeable of my aircraft through vatsim and X-Plane. So Michael Pare stop hating on this person and spreading misinfo about autopilots, DPE's, and checkrides and be supportive. I really never got support either and this shit hurts BAD.

Flights sims can be quite helpful when integrated into a complete training plan. Xplane is the backbone of several Basic Aviation Training Devices (BATD) which when used with an instructor can count toward required flight hours on several certificates. While nothing beats actual flight time, gaining familiarity with controls, systems and techniques in a quieter more controllable environment can be a valuable tool.

try dcs combat world, or x plane, if you dont know the ins and out you wont even be able to start the plane
