I have the same machine that one day I hope to restore but it keeps running and we keep needing it. I am liking all that you are doing so far but a little advice from a welder is to try to avoid spot welding and welding down hill on structural items. The uphill progression helps with obtaining deeper penetration. But keep up the great work.

Hello Mike, I tend to use diesel to clean oily nasty engines and part. Always remember "like dissolves like" or in this case oil based products clean oil based products easier than water based. Diesel is dirt cheap compared to chemical cleaning agents. It will work in an ultrasonic cleaner. Also you can recycle and reuse the dirty diesel by filtering it thru cheap filters. I have used this method for many many projects and it just works. It's not fancy nor "green" but it sure as hell works on even the nastiest engine parts.

I would have cut a hole on the inside wall of the tanks to give you good access to clean and coat them with a tank sealer. As soon as you clean and prep the surface of the metal frame or parts don't give it time to rust. Spray it with some rust-oleum red or black primer. Use a wire brush wheel or cone attachment for a power grinder or drill to quickly remove crusty paint and rust which also etches the surface of the metal for the paint to bond with.

for surface rust try using white vinegar. Also WD-40 spray is useful but must be applied for preservative purposes only. Wipe it off then apply your usual red oxide, primer and paint. Other solutions is the evaporust, a bit pricey but this is all the methods that will work effectively. Excellent work. I will subscribe to your channel. All the best from Durban, South Africa.

Hey Mike, I’m enjoying your video series, a skid steer restoration is definitely a project I want to do, but a quite few others have priority. 😊 I have the smaller version of that Vevor unit and it cleans very well I find with dishwasher powder rather than dishwashing hand liquid or degreaser. The other thing I do is put a folded towel over the lid to keep the heat in and get it even hotter. As for other Vevor tools, I have quite a few of theirs from hydraulic porta power pack to heavy duty impact sockets and other bits and pieces, I have been happy enough with them all, especially their mag drill. Keep up the good work, thank you for sharing and I look forward to seeing you progress the restoration. 😊
