@@pictlandpickers1171 different parts of the country can have different sizes/regulations. I don’t think there any area with a minimum size over 16cm across the shell. If you stick to that you should be safe

Very safe for currents in there. Can get out easily if currents are pushing you along. Just make sure swell it’s rolling in as pebble beach can be hard to get out

Thanks for the comment! There’s a few more species out there that I’d like to catch and potentially new British records! I think all the rays I saw in that bay were spotted rays (Raja montagui)! Very similar looking to the blonde ray but the spots don’t go to the edge of the wings. They don’t get very large

@@Alex_Anders I’ve subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your vids! The UK sea has been hammered but people might be surprised by how good the sea can be here. Lots of species and some big specimens. Used to be a lot better in the past!

@@dinubutuc6442 hi, you can find bass all over the south coast so the exact location isn’t that important. If you Google Chesil cove then you’ll be able to go there and find a bass but there’s many better spots. A good spot would be boat diving off Portland bill!

😆 thanks Carl! I’ll be checking under the bed before I go on next trip! I try and use different music in every video but the highland banger makes video intros so easy 😂 I reckon I was very close to seeing a wolffish but there’s other rarely seen species out there. Not easy but definitely possible to find in Scotland

I didn’t really show it in the vid, we nearly sank a boat in big swells! 😂 made some great memories and got good stories from the trips I reckon there’s still much more out there to find in Scotland! Agreed, can’t wait to get back to exploring! 👍

@@OceanicMatt that clip of the coastline after the intro was up on the north coast. Savage currents there and not very safe for shore diving!

@@gmcc83 buddies was taken over by a load of idiots that use it for directing people to their shop. Lots of people got kicked off if they were associated with other shops or were experienced and able to offer good honest advice. Lot of top spearos aren’t on that group.

Thanks. Before I could see it was a dolphin all I could see was a dorsal fin coming towards me! I’ve swam with wild dolphins a few times and marine mammals all the time

@@ryane8881 a few weeks ago I was spearing just off the coast of Dunbar in Scotland. I was at my usual mark, which I hold decent numbers of large pollock. I was in just over 19 feet of water, reloading my gun having just shot a pollock. I looked down and there was a massive Basking Shark swimming directly underneath me. I could have kicked it with my fins! I have never felt shock/fear like it! My rational head said “it’s a basking shark”. My irrational head said “you’re about to be eaten by a massive shark”. Sadly my irrational head won the fight and I lost out on the opportunity of a lifetime, swimming back to the boat like the panicked donkey I was!

@@gmcc83 😆 I was in Dunbar probably 10 days ago. Agreed you know it’s not going to eat you but still the size and all that can get to you!

@@ryane8881 Were you Spearfishing? Dunbar is a regular for me. Maybe catch a dive with you sometime. I tend to use the boat more than shore, launching from Dunbar harbour.

Thanks for the comment! Yea I was using cressi plastic fins when I lost//broke my previous carbons. Carbon fins are much easier on the body you can swim faster but have less strain on the legs. You can still get out there and catch dinner and have a fun time with plastic though. I am probably slightly more careful with the carbon fins but not especially precious about them. Yeah I used to do a lot of training for spearfishing and that made me a better diver. I was doing dives over 2 mins. Over winter/early spring is great time to do it. I did cardio, apnea training and flexibility work.

@@ryane8881 I have now picked up a pair of carbon fins :) What apnea training do you do?

Thanks James! Lot of people find the aiming hard. Good relaxed diving helps a lot and experience with a speargun gets you used to how it shoots. I’ve been spearfishing 17 years now. Carbon fins are definitely better to swim against current but at likes or Portland you won’t be able to swim against it no matter how hard you swim. Trick is to not get into strong currents unless boat diving!

Yeah that’s right, there was probably about 200 small ones in the area on that dive

@@BR0SE1DON very nice 👌🏻. I’m using a cressi drake dive watch i think it’s called. It’s not a cheap one but it’s good and should last years. I really like using dive watches for surface interval timing. Helps to know about depths and water temp etc but mainly it’s the surface interval for me
