  • I was pretty gutted when I lost my carbon fins but it's not actually that bad. If you haven't got carbon fins don't worry about it!
    I show you how I catch, prepare and cook a triggerfish. To see more of spearfishing triggerfish in the UK check out Joe PK's video: • Spearfishing Triggerfi...
    I'm down a couple of gopro batteries at the moment so I was filming parts on my phone. It was not ideal and apologies for the portrait filming!
    With bad weather on the way I crammed as much diving into the day as I could!
    The final session was freedving not spearfishing, that's why I had no speargun.

      Thanks mate I’m not really into music so it takes me a bit of time to sort that part of the video. The fish tasted great! Probably because I was really hungry at the time! 👍

    You should have left the tail on so that you can use it to hold the fish while pulling the skin away. You can use a pair of pliers to hold the tail fin while pulling the skin with your hand or another pair of pliers. It works great on flounder also.
    The mullet tastes even better if grilled directly on the coals for a very short time.
    P.S. You need to add little more "spices" to your food, it adds taste and builds character :)

    • @ryane8881
      @ryane8881  4 года назад +1

      Yeah that's a great way of removing the skin but it came off so easily i didn't need any pliers etc.
      I've got a few food allergies so I'm a bit limited. I'm no chef but a lot of fish can have quite a subtle and delicate flavour, spices can overpower that taste. I grow a lot of my own food and herbs to go with the fish. Having said that I have made a few good curries - monkfish and mullet work well. Pollock often goes into making spicy fish cakes!

    Hi Ryan.
    I've only recently found your channel.
    I have to say that it's a beautiful world down there.
    I live locally to Portland and fish many of the marks you dive ( responsibly I might add!)
    As a rod and line angler myself, I will have to admit to some being slightly green eyed with regards to lots of your captures!
    Keep up these great videos and above all stay safe.
    Kind regards,
    Karl

      Hi Karl thanks for the comment! Do you remember how you found my channel? I'm a fairly lucky spearo but there is so much down there to see. I'm planning on doing some winter spearfishing so hopefully I'll get some vids up over winter.

    Wow the night footage was spooky, don't know whether I'd have the balls for that, it's like looking at the underwater world through a keyhole in the torch beam!! I must say, you eat well, Red Mullet is one of the most highly esteemed fish on the menu & I've heard Triggerfish are decent too & after seeing that I'd be inclined to agree, those fillets looked delicious!! Incidentally I've heard the Queen Adelaide Wreck holds a few Triggers. Good work sir!

    • @ryane8881
      @ryane8881  5 лет назад

      Thanks Paul! I need a wide angle torch really to light up everything in front of me. I find night diving really relaxing although if I saw a shark I’d be straight outta there!! When you lie of the surface at night and turn off the lights it can be pretty dark (obviously) but when you move your arms there is an awesome blue trail that lights up. Bioluminescence from microorganisms I love it but it’s too faint for the camera to pick up unfortunately 😔.
      Yeah I eat alright 🦞🦀🐟🦑🐙haha. I picked up a couple of pollock as well but the footage wasn’t any good.
      The Adelaide is a famous spot and I’ve been there before a few times but I don’t generally target triggers. If you catch one tho give it a try and let me know what you think! 👍

    Nice vid. I'm just starting to look for suitable fins as fed up using heavy diving fins. Had a speargun since 2003, but done little with it despite living in great spots- Swanage & Bridport. Were those Cressi Gara fins? Comfy? Want something I can add carbon blades to at a later date. Also looking at Mares Razor. Any thoughts welcome

    What's your honest thoughts on the fins please. Many thanks

    • @ryane8881
      @ryane8881  5 лет назад

      The cressi plastic fins I was using are great for spearfishing.
      Obviously carbon fins are better but expensive. I’ll be getting carbon when I can.
      One of the biggest differences is swimming long distances is much easier and faster with carbon fins.
      I think some people only shore dive in the shallows and plastic fins will work just as good and will save you money.
