- This video is about My first time Spearfishing in the Mediterranean Sea, Turkey, with our great friends from Apnea, Turkey!
It was difficult to catch the fish as they are extremely shy and very smart. The water clarity was unlike anything I had ever experienced... Spearfishing Catch and Cook in this vlog with authentic Turkish hospitality!

Thank you joe, it was a pleasure to host you and dive together! Greetings from Turkey 🖐🇹🇷
Welcome to Turkey! I am also a spearo from south part of the Turkey. Happy to see my country in your videos. Safe dives.
First! And I love Turkey and Joe’s vids. 🥳
When you catch the scorpion fish, you can imobilize it easily by holding it up by its lower lip
Mustafa Poyracıklı.. Greatest teach. Y’are very lucky👍🏼👍🏼
Wow I was watching your channel for 1-2 month and suddenly came across you come my country
Always love your video joe.
Beautiful vis, but looks like the UK is more fishy. Love the story telling, great stuff!!
Loved the video Joe 🙂
Welcome to the med where fish are small and wise, the bottom is bare, and where you have to dive to the limit every time to find a decent catch, if you're lucky.
Where I'm from, it's even worse.
Thanks for the share Joe, it's amazing just how good the visibility can be in the Med. I lived in Gibraltar for 6 years when I was younger and loved to go snorkeling and exploring with my dad and it always amazed me just how far you can see compared to the waters here in the UK. Cracking stuff mate and I hope you all had a lovely time out there 👍
Nice trip Joe!
That tavern had Greek songs playing! ✌😎
#Mustafa Poyracıklı abim emeğine nefesine sağlık güzel bir video olmuş tebrikler #APNEA
Great video Joe looks like you had an amazing time in Turkey viability looked superb. Only down side those fish farms. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Nigel :)
My guy Joe
Been a while since I been on your page! Sorry bro I’m back now… lovely footage
Good times. Looks like a nice trip🤗👍
Another great video Joe. It’s a shame about the fish farms actually being quite harmful. You would think they are under strict rules it keep things clean!
Your feast at the end looked lovely though. Cheers Ben.
Nicely spent time mate.. and the water just i don't know what to say 😁 i was with my mate for few days sat to sun.. had a bbq few beers and loads of spearfishing got some massive spiders few bass but mainly relaxed in nature.. viz was below average but still got some fish
awesome travels
Günaydin is similar to good morning, or bonjour. :)
Awesome mate 👏🎬
Parrot fish. I didnt expect them!
Welcome!
Awesome video Joe! The viz there is absolutely insane 😍
Its a real shame about the fish farms, they need to find ways to make them more sustainable and reduce the environmental impacts of them.
Great to see the life in the water, and well done on your fish, good find by Barcley there 😎
Cheers Tony. Barcley's fish was such a good find!
lucky you to nail last bits and pieces in medsea ..unlike the abundance in your locality to choose which fish to shoot
Oh thanks for video) i"ll go spearfishing there so soon! Joe, please, repeat name of the region, where you were hunting.
I'm not sure where we were, it is said in the video around 2:18
I am not familiar with the legal sizes in Turkey but they share some species with the Cantabric sea (where I fish, north of Spain) and I bet my pinky finger that quite a few of those fish are too small (some breams/sargos are almost target practice). I know the Mediterranean, Cantabric Sea and Atlantic Ocean are not Baja... but damn... try to be bit more selective! There is a ton of people watching these videos and may get the impression that we spearos shot anything in sight.
Otherwise great video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your feedback :)
you're in the aegean my friend, dikili is my hometown
Nice to hear sargo being called sargo, eheheh
Amazing video Joe Pk, a few more trips to the med and I think you will be scoring some good catches.
Small correction on the parot fish. Its true it's not native in the med but it didn't come here by ship 😁 It came to the med through the Suez canal like many other species.
All the best from Cyprus💪
Thanks George, I hope so! Thanks for the parrot fish correction 👌
Nice video guy
Welcome to the Great Mediterranean..Did you like the depths of the sea..Did you notice differences..especially in terms of the abundance and size of fishes..compared to the Great Atlantic...Finally, I wish you a pleasant time...Thank you very much for your charisma and For the quality of your videos and your professionalism in producing them at this level..
I liked the med a lot. Very beautiful and so clear. I did only see small fish though, in the Atlantic the fish are generally much bigger, but also not as wise! Thanks for your comment 😊
@@JoePkSpearfishing with my best wishes joe
That region of the Mediterranean (or more particularly Aegean) is probably the place I had gone spearfishing the most in my life. I know what it was like before and after the marine farms. Believe me, the farms' impact on the habitat is not the major cause. The biggest problem in Turkey is abusive hunting, including spearfishing in banned styles. This includes forbidden commercial spearfishing, forbidden night time spearfishing, over-fishing, catching banned species etc. Commercial fishing boats have no quota and they harvest undersized fish, they drop their nets in shallow seas even though it is forbidden and use trawls illegally. Very few people respect regulations in Turkey. Plunder is a part of the culture.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It's a shame more can't be done to protect from overfishing :(
30 m dive. Wow impressive. I wish I was in that shape again. I can only manage 20 m dives now.
I can only manage a few to 30 before getting pretty tired!
@@JoePkSpearfishing I was only down to 28 once and for like 10 seconds. You were there for a while. Really impressed as you dont dive that much. I am honestly so impressed with your videos and dedication. Makes me want to come to Britain just to go diving but given how hard trying those good conditions is it’s probably more of a dream.
It was a lot noisier than I expected. In Asia, you hear parrot fish, but im not sure what is so noisyin the med.
nice video idol...
Great video! Can you explain what an “espetto” is? Thanks!
aspetto, means waiting, or ambush. Lying still on the bottom amd letting the fish come to you
Is Joe back?
The parrotfish (Sparisoma cretense) you caught is not an invasive fish species in the Mediterranean Sea. Also your body was too much exposed during your dive in order to do lurking for a predator fish such as dentex.
Very good information regarding fish farms. Seems no matter how you look at it, fish farms are just not good.
😍🥰😍🥰
Anyone got any advice on how to sharpen my spear without having to get a dremmel or belt sander
Angle grinder in a vice, place the tip angle make tricut
Beautiful yes. LOL! after over 8,000 yrs of continual human habitation and fishing from the seas. "Wilderness"
Exactly!
Great video Joe. Question: Are the fish farms drawing in native fish, which are then captured and raised, or are they planting fish in the farms to raise them in a natural habitat (like they do with oysters)? Thanks!
I think they are planting the fish there after being raised in aquarium... i could be wrong
@@JoePkSpearfishingthey catch blue fin tuna and raise them in those
For the rest ( seabass , guiltheadseabream, dentex and co ) they are put in there and not wild caught
That will teach me to comment too early
Didim is not the Med it is Aegean sea my friend.
Thanks for the great video, Joe. Its forbidden by the law to spearfish for foreigners in Turkey. Although The problem can be easily solved with 20 dollar bribe. How did you solve it?
Basically sea floor is dead ! Every fishing activity should be ban at the Mediterranean Sea
Sadly this is true! I spearfish in the med in Spain and the chances of catching something decent are miniscule. Don't dis the fish farms, we've had some seabass escape from a local fish farm recently and that's the only reason to go when you know there are going to be fish about!
We can’t have it both ways. We can’t be worried about over fishing and complain about fish farms.
Bhai aap ka vlogs bahut achchha Hai ❤️💥💥
Mai bhi vlogs banati hu achcha lage to jarur dekhe 🙏🙏🙏🙏
GUNAYDIN means good morning, not Bonjour which means hello in french !! lesson one.......
“Aslinda hep yaptigim sey, “BEN kolay kolay atis yapmiyom” BEN var ya BEN BEN BEN varya BEN” ah bu egolar ah :))))))
The sea look like desert, not many variety of fish, so poor
