Another interesting video Mr E! How do the taste of queen scallops compare to king for you?

Thanks Joe! Honestly I inhale scallops after a dive session, not really a connoisseur! Couldn’t tell you of any fine differences in taste between the two 😂

Awesome vid mate, those Scallops up there are huge eh! I see what you meant when you said about the current too, funny how that's always where the fish are eh! :D

Cheers matey! The current wasn’t an issue until we went around a rock and got into the stream. Loads of fish but we were getting taken out to sea! 😬 need a boat next time to land some good fish!

Great video Ryan. New to spearfishing, I’m interested to know how long a typical dive is? How long you hold your breath for? And..any tips/training for breath holds. Thanks 🙏

Thanks for the comment. My dives can really vary depending on a bunch of things. If I have a few months out the water and don’t do any anything then dives at start of season are normally pretty rubbish. Worth training to improve diving over winter. I used to do dives over 2 mins all day comfortably but I’m not at that level at the moment.
Running, cycling, rowing, swimming. Apnea training like apnea walks, squats, cycling, pool work. Flexibility and stretching work. All helps. Need consistency so I start off at an easy level and work up over time. In the water need relaxation and good technique helps as well

Love your videos. love your wilderness. Great guy. What torch do you use? is that the one you'd recommend?

Thanks for the comment! I’m using the Orca D550. It cost me £70 and it’s great. Loads of spearos use it. I think “start point spearfishing” sell them now

At about the 7 minute mark picking the scallops was that in shallows? If so, do you tend to overweight a little to use less energy trying to stay down? Good vid as normal mate and good to see I’m not the only one that tends to clean and gut my fish while still in the water especially pollock.

Thanks Shai! Agreed, much better to clean the fish in the water.
The scallop diving on the maerl was shallow. I was positively buoyant, don’t need to conserve energy for scallop diving. Lots of short shallow dives and constantly swimming. Overweighting is useful for say if you’re in Finland and only diving 3m and need to lie in the weeds and wait for fish to come in. When I’m diving to a max depth of 5M and lying in the seagrass I’ll carry more weight or I wouldn’t be able to dive there. I normally set my neutral buoyancy to be about 10m then often dive deeper than 10m. Overweighting isn’t something people should do unless they’re 100% confident they know what they’re doing really
