Cheer Joe, lack of footage made me be a bit more creative! I wanted to make something different to my usual vids as well. 100% I’d like to see this new boat as well!
Cheers, I didn’t get much footage but I thought the map would help pull it all together. Obviously I wouldn’t do that with peoples secret or little known spots!
I know it's an old video, but the viz is pants, so I'm binge watching to keep the stoke! Love the video, actually super informative! A couple of buddies and myself were thinking that finding some areas similar to this may prove fruitful for bream! Turns out we were correct. On the hunt for some Bream this year! Cheers 🤟
Cheers mate, tasty fish well worth looking for. Off the bill can be good for them. Get gilts in shallow in some places but probably Cornwall would be best bet 🤞
Thanks mate I generally like to mix my videos up so they’re all a bit different. Yeah I didn’t know how to end the video so I filmed an extra piece for the end!
Hi Rob I've found mullet good enough to eat but there are much better eating fish out there. If there is a ban on bass then I tend to take mullet instead. I've heard a few people say the fish's diet could alter the flavour but I'm not sure? Mullet with a curry sauce or something like that is alright. I like lemon and thyme. Grey mullet is eaten a lot around the Med and very popular fish, they have lots of recipes like roasted over a fire served with aioli and salad?
Hi Ryan, I believe it to be the case as they are predominantly bottom feeders sifting in soft mud, Thanks for the info, Next time I grab one I’ll try the curry idea 💡 I used to dive off worbarrow bay for scallops, lobsters, crab etc wish I tried the spear gun... keep up the channel and videos - they’re really enjoyable to,watch..
@@robm6335 not a bad spot is old worbarrow bay! I'm looking to get out there again this year (hopefully). Thanks for the comment, I'm really looking forward to getting back into the water and hopefully some good vids will follow this year!
Hey Ryan - good video as usual and interesting info with the chart. I did East side of Portland last week and the current was seriously tough to swim from shore. As for getting I'll - I must throw up during 50% of my dive sessions - just part of the process! I recover and resume within a couple of minutes.. When you hit the bream, what depth was you at and how long was you down for?
Understanding tides is a skill that is really useful to learn as spearos. I rarely get ill but it was just one of those days! I didn’t get much footage so I had to get a bit more creative! Most of the bream were mainly about 15-18m. The one I caught was at 16m. In terms of dive times some were really shot the maximum was about 1:50.
Cheers for the reply bud. Just interesting to know that kind of info. My longest freedive was about 1 min 50 at 10m. I have gone to 12 but no deeper purely because I do all my Spearing from shore and get worried about fatigue trying to swim back in if the current takes hold. Hopefully will have a boat ready for the new season and can really kick on!
@@aidanshamrock4022 the trick is to dive regularly if possible and then you'll see improvements quickly but you've already got good ability to catch fish. I'm looking to change car then I can tow and launch my boat and use that next year a lot instead!
Sounds good. I'm getting in as much as possible - at least weekly. Albeit the weather has destroyed the Vis this month! Tried yesterday but it's like soup everywhere still. Not sure if you are on the spearfishing facebook page? I have set up a little messenger Group chat for locals to Dorset to give updates on Viz etc. Let me know if you are interested and I'll add you. Perhaps in the new season we can keep in touch in terms of shared learning for new spots from our boats
@@aidanshamrock4022 That's better than me, I haven't been spearfishing in nearly two months! Cheers mate that sounds great but I stopped using Fb a while ago but may set up an account for my spearfishing in the future. I've got a couple of dive buddies that will be going out on the boat, you can join if you want to!
I've not done spearfishing for many years but still have my old cavalero champions but unfortunately the rubber bands have long perished and can't seem to source any replacement, great video tho :)
Cheers mate, any issues with gear I just speak to the spearfishing store and they'll help me out. I'm hoping next year will be a good one and I'll get loads more footage like this!
Thanks mate! With rubbish weather over winter and then lockdown I didn't spearfish for 8 months! Been out a couple of times this spring. I'm looking to make a longer species hunt video this year... unless I catch something particularly interesting!
It's so nice seeing all the different ground's, and whats around 👌🐟👌
great place to dive but dangerous!
Loved this style of video Ryan, very original and engaging way of doing it! Come spearfishing in November!!!

also the t-shir colourt change from red to black ;)

Thank for sharing. I hope that you find your missing fin. Can explain how you lost it please?
Thanks mate I dropped it over the side of the boat as I was putting my other fin on!
@@ryane8881 No chance of recovering it?
Nope it drifted off in the current! The mistake cost me over £300!
@@ryane8881 Ouch, that really hurts. You now have a stronger incentive to go out and catch more fish to compensate for the loss :)
@@BurhanMuntasser To be honest I never go out and try to catch as many fish as I can. My freezers are pretty well stocked up at the moment!
Nice to bump into you down Chesil Cove way a few weeks ago! No fish for me that day lure fishing. Great to see what’s under the water!! 👍
Cheers mate, better luck next time! There’s something special about seeing big shoals of fish up close.
Do you enjoy eating mullet? I find them too muddy/earthy... but could be just down to recipe ... what would you recommend for a Poole caught mullet?

Great video Ryan, love the chart work at the beginning. How deep do you normally dive? My max is about 10m!
Thanks mate! Most of my spearfishing this season was from the shore and between 12-20m but all depends upon location. Nice bass you got in that hole!
